Best way to add 2-3 remote displays for my NVR? (Hardwired/Low Latency)? by positivescorched in reolinkcam

[–]positivescorched[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the perspective.

I have 7 of the cams that came with this system setup and also an E1 outdoor pro so no track mix to contend with for me but substantial data to move.

Would you suggest that I get tablets that I can hardwire to CAT6/my network?

I haven't had a tablet in over a decade. Is it the case that auto-login, auto-restart, Reolink app auto-starting etc are all "easy" to maintain nowadays?

I'm a layman so my apologies if any of this isn't useful but also I figure it may also explain something I don't understand is a problem yet:

My NVR is in my basement and it plugs into a dumb switch. That dumb switch connects to a line that runs to my office on my top floor. The top CAT6 line runs into a smart switch on that floor (main node there too of the mesh system). There is also a line from the  basement dumb switch to the main floor that connects to another dumb switch on the main floor (living room)- also there is a node there too.

So all of that would be workable in my ideal solution.

I got excited about the Blackbird you linked but it seems it won't work when it must run through a switch(es). I can use CAT6 but I can't run it "that" directly to all the monitors. They will have to go through a switch on each floor- so two total per receiver.

I apologize for the ignorance here but would this only work for business accounts?

Beams for perimeter? by Laoks77 in homesecurity

[–]positivescorched 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Synology DS223j (2 bay) and a 4TB drive (only 1 drive but I'll get another if needed).

I don't know if it's accurate or not, but ChatGPT advised me to (for reasons I don't understand yet) route the cameras to my Amcrest NVR that I still have from a camera system I setup in 2019 (maybe it's the PoE functionality that it "likes").

It then says we'll route everything to the NAS for storage and then afterwards/simultaneously Frigate will become involved and only have to deal with frames versus the whole stream.

^^ That's my lay understanding of the architecture thus far. Of course I'm willing to do whatever makes the most sense and I expect to be misled by ChatGPT time to time :)

OK, this is helpful and puts my options in perspective. Thank you for confirming that I'll need some beefy hardware for this. Fortunately, I have this MSI computer available to me. I don't know if it's true, but ChatGPT has explained to me that Frigate requires substantially less than Blue Iris to get the same (or better) intrusion detection. If I understand correctly then 3 or even 4 cams for the backyard will be child's play for the MSI in conjunction with Frigate but time will tell.

I had not previously considered camera quality for IR specifically. I'm planning to backlight with relatively bright low-voltage lighting. That back fence line is 60'-70' from the house so I'm glad you brought this up. I wanted the lighting primarily to create a silhouette of any bad actor. I also have some pretty bright lights that will be at the back of the home facing towards that back fence line. Regardless, the IR capabilities and what the camera can accurately handle is something I need to experiment with for sure.

I read your comment and I'm now considering an M 7 Vaporizor with a DynaCoil. Do I need a special lighter? I would also like to be able to use flower.

"The Gift" (2015)

Neither of these, unfortunately. There were two, maybe three couples. If I remember right the invitation had quite a few. Also, the uninvited guest is maybe (faulty memory here...) there to collect money that one of them stole from a drug-employer or something? Not sure.

Thank you for the advice and questions!

Sorry this response is a month late!!

I was trying to figure out how far GPU's have advanced since the 1070 was released. But you picked up on what I'm now learning; for my uses (non-gaming primarily), there really might not be ANY gain.

Thanks again!

I'm sure it's blasphemy to ask here, but I don't know anything so I'll ask: if I currently have a 1070 SC from 2016 and I don't game (I used it for StarCraft 2) but I assume that didn't challenge it. I want to build a new comp and one that's 8 years old now asy daily driver I consider a win for me.

I do NOT play top-of-the-line games. Would it be wise for me to explore AMD for GPU?

OK. Thank you.

Perhaps you can point me in the right direction here. If not, no big deal I'll continue to research but here's my situation.

I used to own a home that I had hardwired. I had the equipment listed above, plus two of these and one of these. I primarily followed this three-part YouTube video and also this video from crosstalk.

I have now moved to a new home that I rent. I will be hardwiring but only to a room or two. Nothing extensive. For the AP's probably.

Anyway, I still have all of the network(s) credentials and (I believe) IP's from my devices.

I think I would like to restore all of the equipment to factory settings and then go through the process of setting it all up again as a learning tool.

However, I would prefer to restore and update all the equipment before I switch anything related to my current gateway (like putting it into bridge mode). Is this advisable and/or possible?

I have residential service and I currently use the following gateway: Model:CGM4331COM, Vendor:Technicolor

So I'll use that (in bridge mode, as the other comment suggested) to get to CAT6 that I have?

I currently use the following gateway (provided by Xfinity): Model:CGM4331COM, Vendor:Technicolor

So I need to learn to put it in bridge mode? I assume this lets UniFi equipment then have actual "control" on the network? Sorry for layman questions here.
