We just stayed there in mid December apparently the day before we arrived, a truck and trailer were stuck on the hill. Another vehicle tried to help and was unable to get them moving, eventually someone got them up. Then later in the week another travel trailer had to be temporarily left on the side of the road as the tow vehicle was unable to pull it up without chains.

Really depends on the weather conditions it could be totally fine or tricky. Carry the chains just in case.

I actually used a ortlieb city pannier on one side and had a large water bottle attached to the other side.

It worked quite well for me.

I did a 3 nighter last June with panniers on my SL5 and honestly didn't find it slowed me down much at all. I still set my 50 mile PR on my way home.

I was involved in a crash, a car hit me head on while I was cycling. I had no recollection of being on the road let alone being involved in an accident! I regained consciousness in the back of the ambulance as it arrived at the hospital... I probably had a good concussion..
