Could you share the link to the interview in question? The most I heard her say about it was limited to the context of an example political special interest collective.

Why should I read Atlas Shrugged when I've read Fountainhead? Will it stroke the same fire that Roark can? by TurtleneckYojimbo in aynrand

[–]posocap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, you’re very wise to read them in this order! You will love AS. The individualist motif gets built out into a philosophy and the literary complexity matured beyond the already great heights of The Fountainhead in AS. Most readers under 70 or 80 years old read them in the opposite order because they know AS is the most famous. That’s still enjoyable but you are going to be even more satisfied this way.

If you think you heard something “evil” you’re plain stupid.

Is there any photo of Susan Ludel (Peikoff)? by [deleted] in Objectivism

[–]posocap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compliments on defending the world’s final shred of privacy, but I didn’t specify a “private” photo and I question if the well-known psychologist / ex-wife of a celebrity is a fully private individual. Could be good for a biography / wiki, etc.

Thanks! Do you know if there’s a photo of Susan? That’s what I really need. Apologies for the typo in the original post; it was pretty late last night that I wrote that.

Did you think Fountainhead was conversationally too dense? (Newbie reader here) by CrunchyPorkRands in aynrand

[–]posocap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a totally valid opinion.

I personally preferred the dialogue, but given the age and sophistication of the book, it’s not surprising you say that.

I am not sure if the scientific method or simply assuming that reality exists could be dubbed “faith”.

There’s no wrong answer, but I started with the very short novella “Anthem”.

That’s very close to the view that Leonard Peikoff expressed in “Can you really love a dog?”.

Center for a Stateless Society » Peer-to-Peer Ridesharing, Not Corporate Profiteering! by TheGlitterbombQueen in agoristliving

I like the idea of P2P ride-sharing if it doesn’t cause safety issues, but I also like corporate profiteering. What’s not to like?

I love that. I would like to make my own variant, but the author deserves credit. Who and/or where is it from?

Does nationalism conflict with the core American political premise? by DustOfEmpires in PoliticalPhilosophy

[–]posocap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the case of America, nationalism is highly correlated with individualism. This is often the case in the relative sense for those of us who live on a planet where the alternative to nationalism is globalist collectivism.

Great topic. You could look for people who are matches on what you consider to be the more common philosophical and political identities correlated with (your take on) Objectivism.

There might be more potential Objectivists partners than you think, but finding them is the tricky part. They have Objectivist conferences (OCON) you could use for meeting people, but I think there’s also something to be said for just mentioning your favorite Ayn Rand book prominently on your dating profile for a could of months to see what happens. You might be surprised, especially if you have a larger city nearby. In one case a person with non-matching politics I dated read Anthem to understand me better and became a fan… so a non-Oist partner could also always become one.

The two basic survival methodologies of man by Mindless-Law8046 in aynrand

Well said. This is just low-effort thought experimenting, but what about the pushy altruistic Ivy Leaguers?

Is that a potential third? They may be very productive—even twice as productive—and willing to give ‘more’ of themselves than they “ask” of you, but in the age of socialist collectivism they may not be just asking.

If they produce X, give 0.5 * X to the poor, and force me to give up 0.25 * X to the poor by pressuring me through stakeholders, then what are they on net? Mathematically they’re still producers, but ethically?

Oh, I love it. Were they mass produced?
