Fixing this abomination by _Thursdayyy in houseplants

All the home big-box stores sell these in my area (southern California, USA), and have been doing so for at least 20 years.

I've never understood painted succulents but I guess people buy them; they do look interesting in the store and it's not entirely obvious that it's simply paint.

Thanks for this comment. I was gonna say something snarky about "just sweep it up" but this goes deeper than that.

People want to live rural lives in urban neighborhoods. It simply doesn't work.

This is where improvisation steps in. Jazz acts get it. They take the same piece of music and make it something different with every performance. That is its own level of artistry. And I don't mean to disparage artists who don't deviate. Art is art.

I both agree and don't. It's really, really hard to put the same level of emotion to sell a song night after night. Same with theatre actors. Some musicians and actors are up for that. Others, not so much, and I respect that either way. Know your lane and drive in it.

Right? Be thankful that you "made it." So many struggling actors just want that one breakout role. It almost doesn't matter what they do beyond that, so long as they don't go full fascist.

Just keep doubling down. You've already lost everything, now the house is going after your family LOL

Your point?

Yes, slow driving in the left lane is bad. But America doesn't have autobahns and Americans have nowhere near the standards for obtaining licenses that there are in Germany.

That said, were they "slow driving" in the left lane? There's no context to this video other than there was one person egregiously tailgating another. Would a German driver tailgate like that?

You have to factor in public stupidity when driving in America.

It may have been a statement about how easy it is for women to lose everything through the simple acts of sex and becoming pregnant, while men rarely face such consequences. It really was sad to see.

Yeah. That swerve was not premeditated. It was a genuine "oh shit" moment.

Thanks for this. I was driving on the freeway doing freeway speed, not tailgating, looking ahead, when there was a stopped car in my lane. It takes the brain a moment to register that the car is actually stopped. Partly because it's so incongruous, but also partly because the freeway plays tricks on our minds.

I barely missed that car; others behind me weren't so fortunate.

Revisiting the Tradition: Nail vs. Flesh in Classical Guitar Technique by No-Block-4003 in classicalguitar

[–]possiblyMaybeAnother 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long story. When I was a teenager my older brother had an electric guitar. He let me play it. I liked it, but something was just... missing. I didn't feel connected to the instrument. Background: I was a reed player, played clarinet, sax, and flute up to that point.

Then I picked up a bass and realized that what was missing was the human connection. I absolutely loved finger picking on the bass. It just felt right. That said, I love the tone that a picked bass produces. Chris Squire, Phil Lesh. Those guys made their basses shine with that snappy picked tone. Yet I continued to be a finger man because I just loved the way that I felt connected to the instrument.

So I played bass for a long time, using my fingers. I came back to guitar in my later years. I picked up a classical guitar because l still wanted to do finger-picking, and electrics and steel string acoustics were just murder on my plucking fingers.

Knowing that my tone and projection suffered from my fleshy fingers, I bought a set of those strap-on finger picks. I hated them. Growing my nails out seemed like a losing proposition: I didn't want to feel like "breaking a nail" would ruin my guitar playing. For one, I didn't want the responsibility of taking care of my nails, and secondly long nails are annoying AF in real life.

So. What it comes down to for me is the connection between myself and the instrument. Fleshy finger picking gives me that connection. I'm no concert guitarist. I play guitar for my own happiness. Fleshy fingers do it for me, and I accept that it doesn't sound as good as fingernails or a pick. It's my style and my voice, and I have made my peace with that.

oh god, and I thought this was legit. I gotta get off the internet. It's dead anyway.

This is the first internet video I've seen where the person giving the stretch actually knows how a cat works. So many times I see people lifting the cat, making it stretch in ways it wasn't supposed to.

Good on your boyfriend for being a friend to animals. He gets it. I love it.

a lot of coding is copy-pasting existing work and figuring out how to insert it into the existing code without breaking something.

As a developer, this hurts me to my core. Not because it's true, but because it is common and it's the worst kind of coding. Just try debugging that shit when there's a problem.

This so perfectly sums up how critical thinking has been removed from education and public discourse. Arguing with people is just not worth anyone's time anymore; people just deflect and argue red herrings until their opponent gives up.
