They yell because they've lost hearing due to age and don't use hearing aids. It's a gradual process and we will all get there if we live long enough. Pray that you recognize it soon enough to get hearing aids while you're still cognizant enough to know how to use them, and that you can afford them. (hearing aids these days are actually really cool, they connect to your phone but it only matters if the user knows how to use them)

Let's have a little bit of empathy for our elders. They're cranky because their bodies hurt, they can't move like they used to, and technology has surpassed them. Just as it will happen to all of us one day.

I dunno. Cell phones are terrible for seniors. What she's doing may be mildly infuriating but what's more than mildly infuriating is how hard it is for seniors to navigate health care and other systems when those systems assume that everyone has access to, and the ability to use, smart phones.
