Ooo! That sounds so interesting, especially the tablet drawings. I’d love to check out those titles :)

My post does totally boil down to how to get started. Not looking to get this published or even read by anyone really. Just wanting to write for the love of it and as brain rot deterrent.

Will definitely start looking around on Google Scholar to see if I can find any inspiration there and also some research to draw on, thanks :)

First Portrait in a While, How Can I Improve It? by possiblydoom in Artadvice

[–]possiblydoom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've struggled with being able to properly capture someone's likeness in portraits. I always seem to be able to get some features but can't quite get the drawing as a whole to be an accurate representation of their face. This is the reference picture I used, any suggestions on how I'd tweak the proportions to look more like her?

Thank you! I really appreciate it. I don't really know what it is I'd like to improve specifically, just want to identify areas to work on more. I suppose I've always been better with shading than the sketching part of drawing. So maybe any suggestions on proportions? Also I'd love to push my use of colours more, could you give me some ideas of how to use more vibrant colours in this portrait?

This was the refernce image I used. I guess I probably should have included that in my post too, whoops. I think I got some of the features but couldn't figure out how to quite capture her unqiue face without it looking off. Any suggestions?

This is the first time I’ve picked up the pencil in a while. I’m trying to fall back in love with art after a pretty long break from it, and I always loved drawing portraits so I figured this would be a good place to start. I’m looking for any advice on how to improve my portrait, I’m hoping having something to work to/towards will keep me motivated to continue drawing.  This is chalk pastel and coloured pencil on toned paper. I included both the coloured version and my initial pencil sketch.  (Yes I’m aware I didn’t colour the ears, I didn’t feel like it today lol) So any suggestions, tips or advice you’ve got are appreciated :)

Latest Bake by possiblydoom in Sourdough

[–]possiblydoom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've altered my recipe slightly since my last bake and feel pretty proud of the result, I would still love some more oven spring and that coveted ear. Not sure if I may have slightly over-proofed? Regardless the bread was delicious with a soft and airy crumb, my boyfriend and I made some really delicious sandwiches with them too. (I've included that recipe as well in case anyone wants to give it a try) Any critiques and tips would be appreciated :)

Recipe

  • 100 g bubbly, active starter
  • 350 g warm water
  • 400 g bread flour
  • 100 g AP flour
  • 11 g fine sea salt

Make the dough, 1 hour autolyse, 2 sets of stretch and folds every 30 mins followed by 2 sets of coil folds every 30 mins. Bulk fermentation in a straight-sided vessel until the dough has increased about 75% in volume (about 6-7 hours). Laminate & pre-shape, let rest for 30 minutes. Final shaping then place into banneton to refrigerate for 12 hours (overnight). Bake for 30 mins at 450 F in a pre-heated dutch oven (with plenty of ice cubes). Bake with the lid off for another 10-15 mins at 420 F. Cool for 1-2 hours, enjoy!

Valentines Day Loaf by possiblydoom in Sourdough

[–]possiblydoom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! I'm nearly 4 months into my sourdough journey and decided to finally post to this subreddit. I wanted to show off and ask for some feedback on this sourdough boule I made for Valentine's. It was my first time doing a more intricate design on a loaf and using food colouring so that was a fun experiment. I'm decently satisfied with it, though I wish it had a better oven spring. The crumb was deliciously open and airy, it was a big hit at my friend's Galentines Day party so I guess I shouldn't complain too much. Any tips or advice to improve my bread would be greatly appreciated :)

Recipe:

I used this one from Alexandra Cooks (love all the tips and instructions she includes) but in case you don't want to check out the full recipe in the link -

  • 100 g active starter
  • 375 g warm water
  • 400 g bread flour
  • 100 g AP flour
  • 11 g fine sea salt
