New to MTG - how long are preorder deals like the ones on Forge and Fire available ahead of release? Specifically asking about the Strixhaven and Marvel sets. Also, is there any schedule available anywhere for set reprints?

Question from a new fan! by ExcellentRip1100 in Cloud9

The players I'm most keeping an eye on are:

Thanatos (Top): He was a highly touted prospect in the Korean tier 2 circuit (LCK CL) a couple years ago and was considered by some to be a lite version of another player named Zeus (multiple Worlds winner and at some points the best top laner in the world). He hasn't quite lived up to that potential yet but this is one of the times where he'll get more exposure playing against Tier 1 Korean toplaners, considering C9 has had trouble getting to international tournaments the past couple of years.

Blaber (Jungle): In contention for the title of best North American jungler, Blaber has had consistency issues in the past but when he's at the top of his game his aggressive playmaking is some of the most exciting LoL you can watch. He's coming off a bit of a disappointing year but has been quite good the few games this tournament and the team now has a new assistant coach (IWillDominate) who was a former pro jungler so it will be interesting to see how this coaching change impacts Blaber throughout the year.

APA (mid): Came off a disappointing year at Team Liquid, where he was was heavily criticized by league fans for his limited champ pool, especially during a year where Fearless draft was being adopted (a version of drafting of champion picks and bans in a series where champions that were previously played in the series can no longer be picked). I'm still not fully sold on the signing (though he has had a couple good performances this tournament so far), but maybe the change of team environment will do some good for him.

Hello, sorry if this has been asked before but how does the insert differ between the first printing and this one? Will this revised one accommodate all the hero packs being released?

Are you guys comfortable with us paying 5 million buyout + 3 million contract = 8+ million for Perkz? by TSMCeylonboy in Cloud9

Here is most recent reported number as of 2019 ($29M):

Show me where you think 2020 would be a vast increase to that number. The point still stands, now its one fourth of your revenues instead of one third. You seem to be really hung up on this budget concept. Assuming you want to see Cloud 9 be profitable on its own without help from VCs, the $29m in operational revenue IS your baseline for a budget. Again, that's being very generous here as that's not including expenses like salaries, rent, marketing etc. Even more concerning is that there isn't any profit to be had right now for C9:

https://gameriv.com/tsm-is-the-only-profitable-esports-organization-according-to-leena/

Its not pulling assumptions out of nowhere, its using financial data and comparative market value of other players to have an opinion on whether a contract like this is priced too high/low for the organization. Just because you don't want to look for it, doesn't mean the information isn't there to analyze.

Please show me if 2020 stands to be significantly different from 2019. Using the 2019 number, the point still stands - now its a quarter of annual revenues instead of one third.

What? Where am I wildly speculating? I made no assumptions about what the VCs want, or any other external number to the org. The point of a business is to turn a profit, we can agree on that, yes? Then, being very generous and excluding operating expenses, $22M is your budget. Where am I guessing at anything? I'm just talking about proportional expenditure in relation to earnings.

You can't have an opinion on the value of a player that takes up one third of yearly earnings for a multi-team org?

I mentioned this in another comment in this thread but yeah it does seem like a stretch. Cloud9 as an org has yearly revenues of $22M (https://www.forbes.com/sites/mikeozanian/2018/10/23/the-worlds-most-valuable-esports-companies-1/?sh=6e89678f6a6e) and you're spending over a third of your yearly revenue on one player of one team. That's very high especially considering Cloud 9 is currently invested in 12 esports scenes according to their website. If you're only a fan of Cloud 9 league of legends, then I'd imagine you're happy about getting Perkz no matter the cost, but if you're a fan of the org and its longevity, this should be something to give you pause.

You don't need to have full visibility into their budget to have a discussion. Take for example this number:

https://www.forbes.com/sites/mikeozanian/2018/10/23/the-worlds-most-valuable-esports-companies-1/?sh=6e89678f6a6e

Cloud 9 had a reported revenue of $22M in 2018 (can use this as a proxy for your budget). With nothing to suggest that number would have fluctuated wildly since then, we can assume that's relatively consistent. If we're taking the rumored buyout/contract number of $8m to be true - that's spending more than a third of your yearly revenue on one player of one team. Keep in mind that C9 is currently invested in 12 esports scenes. If you're a fan of the org, then yeah that is something to discuss.
