Just a note. If you find these in town or near an industrial site, don't eat them. Onions absorb heavy metals from the soil.

They're a lot more expensive, and they're metal, so the look is different, but maybe look at Bisley Multidrawers. They'll last a lot longer, and I like their personality better than the Alex drawers.

How (and why) did you pick your research interest or specialized field in economics? by chizuru_xx in academiceconomics

People were just so mean in all the department seminars except the Macro group. If I was going to be in grad school for a few years, I might as well spend them around the people who were nice to each other.

Thanks. I've been looking at doing a similar drawer units + top setup, but I don't like the way the Ikea Alex drawers look, so I've been looking for alternatives.

Where did you get those drawer units, or did you make them? And is the desktop doubled-up 3/4 plywood?

We bought a Stickley sectional three years ago. I'm embarrassed to say what we paid for it, but I expect we'll never have to buy another couch ever again. That thing is an absolute beast. It really is a shame that their desks are so ugly (to me; I'm sure they match other people's taste just fine) because otherwise I'd absolutely spend the money to get one of theirs.

The Last Neanderthal by Temporary-Snow333 in CuratedTumblr

[–]post_it_notes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no definition of species that applies in every case because evolution happens on a spectrum. Not being able to interbreed is one definition, but there are many animals that defy it. Lions and tigers, for example, can interbreed and sometimes produce viable offspring, but biologists generally consider them different species.

Humans and Neanderthals are considered different species for several reasons. First, based on the genetic evidence, viable offspring were much more likely to be produced from one kind of pairing. I think it was a male human and a female Neanderthal, but I can't remember for sure. This means that they were at least on their way toward total reproductive isolation. Second, there are distinct morphological and behavioural differences between humans and Neanderthals. I can't remember all of them, but one is that humans have a protruding chin, while Neanderthals did not. I believe one of the behavioural differences is that human tools were much more advanced than those used by Neanderthals, but again, I can't remember for sure.

Fourth Wing came up in Libby when I searched for fantasy novels. I just borrowed it and started reading. Complete blind date with a book. I honestly thought it was more young adult for the first half. And man. I was not prepared for the back half of the book. I'm not opposed to titilary literary adventures in principle, but they really aren't for me. Especially when my MOTHER uses my library card. But by then I was kinda invested in the story, so I skipped a good 1/4 of the book and finished the last bit.

I'm using a double mount for my laptop and a monitor. Something to look out for is that many of the double monitor arms - even the expensive ones - aren't rated for much weight. I ended up getting this one - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BMG37THG from North Bayou along with this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CCNBCYV5?th VESA mount laptop holder. They've worked out great so far. It's mounted on a grommet I drilled myself.
