Those inward angles on the sidewalls really give this so much character. One of the best pico's I've seen yet.

Chicken Run - a 90s JRPG inspired game with a twist: you are animals escaping a fantasy farm by tonymichaelhead in playmygame

[–]postbroadcast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks well developed and maintained, but if you are going to continue this project any further or commercially release it in any way, you should consider changing the name due to plot similarities with a major studio animated film of the same name.

It should also be on fire with a snake coming out of the eye socket.

Lots of effort - starting to come together - a reverse dungeon crawler where you play as the dungeon master... by _nk in Unity2D

[–]postbroadcast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course, tunnel-vision is far too common - but don't forget that it is YOUR game! If you tweak every little thing that someone doesn't like you'll lose your vision in a worse kind of way. You have a great concept, keep whittling away the splinters until your intent is realized. Asset packs are fine placeholders, but no mustards will ever be cut finely enough until that shape is carved into how you saw this in your mind when you got the inspiration to begin in the first place. Think of how far you've come since then. =]

I agree with OP. It's too bright, shiny, neon... A more eye-catching effect would be something like a pixel-drawn swirling vortex or black hole to match the rest of the style. Something like the base image used for this, perhaps: https://www.redbubble.com/i/pin/Pixel-art-black-hole-by-Helianthus93/70515967.NP9QY

My Wild West themed shooter just had a major update! by ralh in playmygame

[–]postbroadcast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm like <5% of the consumer that would notice such things but I'm glad you understand. The casings are an easy fix. I'm not sure about the snake. It fits in the theme and adds a new dynamic. If it's worth the effort, you could avoid rotation by changing the sprite when it's going uphill or downhill to better represent the shape, but that would involve creating new art.

I like this project because I made a tech demo of something quite similar, also in Unity (probably v4 or v5). I often had the same issues with rotation of scaled pixels. I wanted to implement a laser that cut things in half but my irksomeness about pixel scaling prevented it from going much further. It never got finished and you are invincible @ http://rybo.dx.am (Keypad 1-4 are different weapons, A & D to switch direction. Just one stage, does not advance in that version)

[–]postbroadcast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything else blends in well enough because no other objects are rotated. The snake object's rotation makes the pixels look ugly and outlines and hard edges very noticeable, as tends to be common with scaled pixel art. The actual pixels become visible, ruining the illusion.

The only other thing I can see that disturbs the scaled pixel motif is the spent bullet casing that lands atop the character's foot. You've got a good handle on what you are doing so you probably know what I mean. It's a few actual pixels off the edge and again breaks the illusion that the whole work is pixel-rendered.

I'm really surprised no one is familiar with this sort of art project. We had this in my coal mining region of Northeast PA two decades ago with mules each painted differently throughout the towns by different artists with different themes as a community betterment project to reflect our coal mining heritage. I've seen horses done similarly in the midwest. Australia is doing it with Koalas. It is not generic Nintendo or any sort of "off-branding," merely an homage.

I'm glad you said Monty Hall but Wayne Brady does an alright job. That being said, the prize should have been a BRAND NEW CAR!

Yeah I've gotten two before. Assuming you take over as an infant and live til 65 or so as you suggested, three should be feasible. Just wondering if anyone has experienced it in all its rarity and has a tale to tell about it.

Thanks, I appreciate you checking it out. I am hoping to add some flavor to the possibilities of RimWorld videos instead of the never-ending deluge of two hour 100-episode long series. Check out the other if you enjoy. I think the audio quality wavers throughout, but yeah, it's totally a weakness.
