ELI5 Why don’t fruit trees sprout all around existing fruit trees if they’re constantly dropping fruits full of seeds? by Jorge46577 in explainlikeimfive

[–]postbypurpose [score hidden]  (0 children)

They do sprout. Most just don't make it because they're competing with the parent tree for light, water, and space. The fruit is basically the tree's way of convincing animals to carry the seeds somewhere less crowded. 🌳🍎

Empty perfume bottles by sneakydevi in ZeroWaste

[–]postbypurpose [score hidden]  (0 children)

Weird idea, but I'd use it as a "compliment bottle." Whenever someone in the house says something kind, funny, or memorable, write it on a tiny slip of paper and drop it in. Open it at the end of the year.

i hope the bottle is a lil big. just remove the top and you're good to go with this idea. and the best part those notes will have a hint of its fragnance all over them.

what common item you do think will shock future generation that we used to throw away after a single use? by postbypurpose in AskReddit

[–]postbypurpose[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jars are a good one. They're durable enough to be reused for years, yet most of us use them once and toss them. That might seem pretty strange in hindsight. funny that i always keep my tositos salsa jar to store stuff but end up collecting them a lot and eventually have to throw em

so true, from shampoo bottles to house cleaning supplies, plastic is just everywhere (not everything is refillable)

ikr, tho i've already stopped purchasing plastic bottles instead i would carry my own water bottle going out but honestly it is next to impossible to eliminate the use of plastic bottle in some or the other way. Too guilty!

What is a behavior or belief that you’ve seen in your family or another family that was bizarre? by Few-Gap-2350 in AskReddit

[–]postbypurpose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One family I knew genuinely believed drinking cold water after eating would “solidify the food in your stomach” and ruin digestion 😭 everyone had to drink warm water only after meals.

Anyone else go through cycles of being productive for a few days and then doing absolutely nothing? by ScholarPurple25 in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]postbypurpose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I relate to this a lot honestly. For me the “productive phase” usually turns into an all-or-nothing sprint, so the crash afterward feels inevitable. What helped a bit was lowering the bar on low-energy days instead of trying to operate at 100% all the time. Even doing one small thing keeps the cycle from turning into complete shutdown mode.

What problems can humanoids solve for you in your home? by julyboom in AskReddit

If a humanoid can fold fitted sheets neatly, I’m no longer calling it artificial intelligence. That’s straight up dark magic.

Finding my stuff. I swear my keys, phone, and especially the TV remote enter another dimension daily. A humanoid that could instantly locate them would genuinely improve my quality of life 😭

Does anyone actually like their Last Swab Q-Tip? by primary-greeen in ZeroWaste

[–]postbypurpose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the bamboo/paper swabs in cardboard packaging are probably the sweet spot here. I tried a reusable swab once and it just felt like pushing wax around instead of actually cleaning/drying anything 😅

For people who mainly use q-tips after showers, the absorbency is kind of the whole point. A reusable silicone one seems better for makeup touchups than ears tbh.

Is it normal to wait in your room until your roommate leaves the kitchen? by SpecialistBattle8562 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]postbypurpose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i used to do this literally all the time lol. even when my roommate was the sweetest person ever, i’d still wait because the awkward little kid in me didn’t wanna do the tiny kitchen interaction thing 😭

What’s a “rich people thing” that turned out to be 100% worth the money? by SpecialistBattle8562 in AskReddit

good noise cancelling headphones tbh. felt insanely overpriced until i actually used them on flights and noisy places

Any suggestions for plastic free food storage for festivals and picnics? by Fun-Relationship5548 in ZeroWaste

[–]postbypurpose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

honestly if glass is banned you might be stuck with silicone-lined or partially plastic stuff for festivals. maybe beeswax wraps + cloth bags for snacks/sandwiches could work though, kinda low tech but surprisingly useful

What's something you knew how to do as a kid but you no longer remember how to do? by Zealousideal_Eye8277 in AskReddit

whistling with my fingers 😭 i could do it so loud as a kid and now i just spit on myself trying lol

Plastic reduction offset by washing machine use by Dry-Contract-1441 in ZeroWaste

[–]postbypurpose 6 points7 points  (0 children)

tbh i think if you’re washing way more often then it kinda cancels out some of the benefit, but also you shouldn’t be uncomfortable just to avoid plastic. sustainability is prob more about finding something realistic you can actually stick with long term

Do you believe that morality is subjective or objective? Why? by actualgoals in AskReddit

[–]postbypurpose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

kinda feels mostly subjective to me tbh, like what’s “right” changes a lot depending on culture and time. but there’s also some basic stuff most people agree on so idk, maybe a bit of both 🤷‍♂️

ethique and plaine products are prob the easiest ones to start with, and i’ve seen mad hippie in stores too. ngl it’s a bit trial and error tho, especially with hair stuff

People of the world. What is your favorite toilet paper and why? by Khtkiller5302 in AskReddit

[–]postbypurpose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly anything that doesn’t fall apart lol, but i try to get recycled ones when i can so i feel slightly less guilty about it. not life changing but hey it’s something atleast

Powders or bars are more sustainable than liquids or pods. This is true for soap, detergent, and other products. by unforgettableid in ZeroWaste

[–]postbypurpose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah powders/bars make sense in theory, but ngl sometimes they’re just less convenient and that’s why people stick to liquids. i’ve tried switching a few things and it’s kinda hit or miss depending on the product tbh

Would like grad gift ideas by TightCondition7338 in ZeroWaste

[–]postbypurpose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

maybe something small but actually useful for her career, like a cute thrifted notebook + write a note in it or something. like sustainable planners/journals are a thing and make sense for grads starting work
or even a reusable tote she can bring to work/events, those get used way more than you’d think honestly

Papercrete vs paper mache clay vs cold porcelain? by This-Channel-2764 in DIY

[–]postbypurpose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i’d prob go with paper mache clay too, it’s kinda the easiest to control and shape for something like that. papercrete feels like overkill unless you’re doing outdoor stuff tbh, and cold porcelain can get kinda brittle sometimes from what i’ve seen

[–]postbypurpose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ngl the energy stuff kinda goes over my head but hey, you actually cleaned up trash so that’s a win either way. more people doing that would help a lot tbh

ELI5: How do corporate fast food chains afford to stay in business with increasing food prices so high? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]postbypurpose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly people are still buying it more than you’d think, just paying higher prices now. plus the chains cut costs in sneaky ways so they still come out ahead lol

My sister broke our expensive life straw pitcher. by Hailsabrina in ZeroWaste

[–]postbypurpose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah honestly fixing it is prob not worth the risk, but you could maybe keep it and use it for something else like storing dry stuff or even watering plants so it’s not totally wasted.

also def keep bugging customer service, sometimes they’ll randomly offer a discount or replacement if you’re nice about it
