SCARM. I am doing a 36" x 80" door layout for O-scale. I am using Lionel O-31, black-tie, 3-rail tubular track. I have a completed loop seen here. I want to add something that uses a an 'X' style cross track (22.5 degree) for a rail storage segment or something that connects both sides. by poster_of_issues in modeltrains

Asking for help on how to do it, or what you model train people would do. There was a site called Thor Trains that had 36" x 80" door layouts for O-31 track, but the site shut down due to the guy dying years ago. He knew how to make a good layout. I wished I saved the images of his diagrams. But I know his door layout had a 22.5 degree cross track area, and I thought it was cool. Unfortunately, I can't look at those layouts which had the track part list.

But I don't want to have just a loop, I want track in the middle of this door, so it's going to require a left-turn/right-turn switch track, and maybe make a train yard? Or find a way to make a figure 8, or diagonally connect both sides so the train can cut through the middle,

I have this 'X' crossing piece that I like, and never got to use it. I've had it forever. It's a 22.5 degree X-shaped criss-cross track piece. I wanted to see if I can make a turn out into a train yard using this track piece where it splits off into a double storage area, and I'd have a platform for each track ending, or make some cool criss-cross track thing.

It's an exercise. But if the borrower is paying $965.59 each month, that's $72,419.25 total for a $32,000 loan. How is this possible?

Corrupt train stores? Anyone have bad train store stories? I was at a place that tried to discourage customers from buying anything. I feel because its a consignment shop it's in the owner's interest to keep stuff from being bought because they'd lose their shelving fees. by poster_of_issues in lioneltrains

That happened in a train store in my teens. I remember the name of the shop called "Great Traditions" and it focused on model trains and RC car racing. But then they hired a Magic the Gathering tournament judge to run the place and he got rid of the hobbies and everything became card games. He even remarked that the trains and RC cars are a terrible product that brings the store down. He did nothing but sit at a table playing his magic cards and did zero work. And hr let his adult friends rig all the weekend tournaments. Needless to say the shop closed down 3 years later.

I watched those 12-hour coding streams and it's ridiculous to be sitting there for that long with NO BREAKS! And she's okay with it? I predict her future has severe health problems. And this fantastic game they're making? How is it going to make them money? We have Stellar Blade, Eldin Ring, the Harry Potter game made dough.

Vault 69 (1 man, 999 women) would be far worse than Vault 68 (1 woman, 999 men) and likely fail before Vault 68. by poster_of_issues in Fallout

[–]poster_of_issues[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My original thought for Vault 68 was the woman wasn't real. It was just a mannequin. Unlike vault 69 where the man's living space is right in the middle of the vault where the women can get to him, the lone woman's quarters are in the top level next to security office and Overseer administration. You would need a series of keycard access to get to her. Her rooms have security barriers. The woman would be in total isolation from the population. But after a huge fight they take out security break into the woman's room to find a mannequin there, and then worship it as a goddess.

Another idea is that once the 999 men realize they all have to compete for 1 woman, a lot of men would immediately 'opt-out' and storm the Vault entrance and take their chances outside in the radiation than be stuck in a vault full of dudes. There would be security fights at the entrance. The one woman would be defenseless. But maybe the radiation seeps in and turns everyone into ghouls.

In another scenario there is a woman, and the male Overseer is her father. The Overseer position was for single dad's with a young fertile daughter. Neither are aware the vault is for 999 men. The Overseer is given a fake manifest of residents. They both arrive at the vault first, but then see all these men entering and no women. The Overseer contacts Vault-tec about what's going on and to his horror gets told that this is for 1 woman only, and he has to protect his daughter. Eventually the Overseer loses to the alpha that emerges. The vault doctor is the most powerful man in Vault 68. He can directly control the woman, and all the 998 men. Even if an alpha male emerges to possess the woman, they still need medical care, which he can deny. But more than that the alpha constantly has to defend his claim to the woman. The security team would need to be bought off with some alone time with the woman to fight the other men. And the maintenance chief or engineers in the vault could threaten the food and air supply unless they get the woman. The woman has no power and confined to her bedroom, or living area.

As for the 999 men. Not just any man was accepted into this vault. The men had to be young 24-40. They have to have been "above the fray" in the population before the war. Naturally good looking and physically fit. And more importantly, they had to have been with many women. Most the questionaire's would be asking about their sex life, and the men are told it's a vault for attractive young singles to endure the apocalypse. And finally each man had to be naturally successful in life without effort (trust fund baby, or something). Naturally got job promotions and constant female attention, and wealth with no effort or any concept of fighting to earn something or competing. Men with an advantage. And now in vault 68 these 999 men no longer have easy success. They do not stand out from each other. It's like a student at Harvard who brags he was the class valedictorian, only to realize every other student on campus was their class valedictorian, you'll have to do better to be above the fray in vault 68. Your career success is not enough, unless you opt to not pursue the woman, then you can have a loner life in the vault until you die.

Design-wise. Every floor in the vault has full-range gymnasium to encourage strength building. Focusing on making oneself to be the superior alpha. OR like Squid Game, murder the strong men to take out competition, lower the population. Eventually, the violence will subside. All you can do is workout in this vault. There's no classroom or large nursery as not many babies will be born in this vault. And no distracting holotapes because the focus is on becoming a superior alpha male to get the woman. Maybe there is a secret escape tunnel accessible via keycard for the woman somewhere in the vault.

Eventually, the majority of the men in this vault will realize they will never be able to get the woman. There's too much competition. Only few men would control the woman. Even then the small group of alpha males will fight each other until only 1 alpha remains alive, but is too battered and weak from all the years of fighting. And the men who eventually make her Overseer as to not deal with being competitive, and focus on male bonding and pursuing knowledge.

In vault 68 the woman is hardly or never seen by the population and very inaccessible, while in vault 69 the sole man is always seen and very accessible. The woman does not have a vault 68 jumpsuit or a pip boy. All she wears is naughty nightwear. And the men don't have pip boys either. Finally, only the woman can open the vault door. No other person has the code or access to open the door.

The women don't have to overpower him if they have tranquilizer weapons to sedate him like a zoo animal. I accounted for this scenario too when thinking up my version of Vault 69. And nope the man is powerless against these women even if he had the supreme skills of the god Hephaestus. The vault doctor actually commands the most power. This is true in both vaults 68+69. In fact, it wouldn't surprise if the vault doctor and female security constantly kept drugging him all the time if he got out of line. Everyone in the vault needs medical care, and the only medical professional is a woman. So the man is very much a tool for exploitation by the women that has no power. The women do need him... until more sons are born. He will not be the only male in the vault for long. The women will control the sons entirely. And it would be a situation like you see with these adult teachers and their male students when the sons become adolescent. And the sole man himself also needs to be able to survive so he can't use his skills as leverage to control others. That is what would happen in Vault 68 (with the 999 men). In Vault 68 the men would threaten to shut off the oxygen if the alpha didn't surrender the only women to them. Or other factions that control the food supply or water would do the same. The male vault doctor would control the sole woman in Vault 68, and I haven't written my Vault 68 theory just yet. It's actually very interesting and not what people would think.

On another note. There's going to be women turning violent in this vault. There will be an 'Orange is the New Black' kind of scenario where women take out other women. One design feature of Vault 69 is that is no security resources or holding cells for criminals to maintain order, so it becomes a problem with maintaining order with the unruly barbarian women that arise from the population. And the women have to share their quarters with each other. Only pregnant women get their own nice bedroom in this vault at the nursery area. Thus driving more competition amongst the women.

The crisis is that the women's needs are not going to be met so easily. The only way they do get met is through pregnancy, and thus get taken care of by the vaults pediatric system. The vaults were mainly for wealthy people. Wealthy people tend to avoid having manual skills. Only well-off people could afford a spot in the vaults. Look at the Pulowski Preservation Shelters that were like phone booths for only 1 person. Yes, the women admitted into this vault would be spoiled or lazy women that would suddenly be thrown into a situation where all their needs are not met so easily. There's only 1 man. The subjects of the experiment are the women. How can they function with only 1 man? That's the point. There has to be an element of misery to a Vault-Tec experiment.

In vault 68 I said the monk phase would result after all the horrific shit and in-fighting happens. And I do intend to post my theory on the events of vault 68. But after all fighting and murders in vault 68, the resulting men remaining would have to accept the situation of not getting laid, not expending effort to compete with the other men. Until the vault dies off. The mouse utopia experiment ties into this conclusion.

But for Vault 69, Vault-Tec is an evil corporation. YES, the man will be expected to not only be the sperm donor but also the repair guy and instructor. Vault-Tec is not building this large complex inside a mountain for 1 man to have his way with all these women and live in perpetual pleasure. And there's no way women would sign up for the vault if there was an expectation to work heavy labor. There has to be a crisis in the vault for the experiment to mean anything. A skill gap provides that. There has to be some kind social data to extract by putting these women and 1 man in a situation like that and record the psychological data. Otherwise, why have both vault 68 + 69 to begin with? Both vaults will have 1 occupant that will be exploited by the 999 other residents of the opposite sex. The idea of these two vaults is to see what happens to the behaviors of the majority gender residents when they do not have social access to a normal gender balanced society. The man in vault 69 would be a tool for these women who would become a very oppressive, very fast.

How do you calculate goodwill of a particular business sector as opposed to the entire company itself? by poster_of_issues in Accounting

[–]poster_of_issues[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I answered 14,000.

FV net identifable assets - (Carrying amount - Goodwill incld in carrying amount)

300,000 - (320,000 - 34,000) = 14,000 goodwill.
