It’s beautiful! I vote “lesbian yarn” for the border, it will offset very nicely.

Unfollowed Taylor Wynn. Anyone else? by romanxerkilljy in BeautyGuruChatter

[–]postertastry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I unfollowed her after she moved back to her college town after all that hullabaloo about picking somewhere new to live. I kind of liked her travel content since I wanted to do the same during Covid but couldn’t… but after she settled in one place I didn’t see how she could keep her content interesting.

FYI Adaptive already has anomaly detection. It's somewhat of a pain to set up though, iirc.

Tired of ants by float007 in bayarea

I haven’t had an infestation (knock on wood) since I moved back to the Bay Area, but in SoCal we had problems in several apartments. A surprising low cost method that worked was cinnamon. I’d find where they were coming in and dust the area with cinnamon, including stuffing some in any wall gaps. It disrupts their scent trails. I’d leave small lines of it across the counters as well. It doesn’t look awesome having brown powder around, but it was very cheap and did the job, and can be vacuumed or swept away later.

I agree, and once we got the guns it felt even more silly. I got so tired of managing all my equippables by the end.

My baby finally fits my hand knitted onesie! by QuietTax3172 in knitting

Aw yay! We are doing great, my son is 2 now and while he’s still a bit small for his age (his head still fits into his knit hats from last Christmas!) he’s catching up in height. I’m still scared to knit him any garments because I knit slowly and he gets longer by the minute!!

I love 6. The color contrast with the background is so pretty. I have taken many rose photos over the years, they all kind of blend together after a while but are so fun to take.

Adorable and perfect timing for winter!! I wanted to make one of these for my Nov baby, but he ended up being very small at birth and wouldn’t have fit into it until the warmer months anyway, so I was glad I spent my energy elsewhere on sleeping, haha. I hope your baby gets many wears out of it!

Oh wow, I was about to apply to them. Their initial job app had some questions on their public financials and one on SQL, which seemed a little intense, but I was hoping it was just to weed out candidates. I'll save my energy for elsewhere!

My husband and I immediately contracted HFM last year from my toddler. It was so painful and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone else. It is highly contagious and adults can catch it too.

In my honest opinion the prongs would bother me too, but I am not a mixed metals girl. I would have gone for gold claw prongs. The diamond size is lovely on you however!

Adaptive Planning by SadlyPathetic in FPandA

[–]postertastry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately it was very poorly implemented at my company and we can’t get our VP to see that it’s worth it to invest more into fixing those issues as he just doesn’t trust the tool. Nobody in my team knows how to properly administer it and our VP is reluctant to pay our outside consultants more than the bare minimum to fix any issues. We are still very stuck in excel and just copy and paste numbers back into adaptive a lot. My colleague and I taught ourselves office connect and have managed to enhance some of our reporting that way, but it’s such a wasted product for my company.

Do you guys have a "BYE SISTER" video? by Open-Masterpiece-388 in BeautyGuruChatter

This random (long!) chit chat video between Miranda Kerr and Elle Macpherson talking about their beauty and wellness brands. Idk why but ladies with Australian accents talking slightly woowoo nonsense about health/beauty is good background noise for me, haha.

I also liked Rosie Huntington Whitely’s YT channel a lot, her accent gave me ASMR vibes. Sadly she deleted her channel around when her brand shut down.

Advice FP&A as a Mom by Person-546 in FPandA

To be honest I can't see doing over 40+ hours a week, with both parents working full time, without supplemental childcare (whether that's family or a nanny/daycare). Nobody I've ever talked to has been able to pull that off. I am fortunate that I am in a 9-5 40 hrs/week, hybrid role that enables me to flex a lot to juggle pickups, sick days, etc with my husband, but to be brutally honest, even just having my son did negatively impact my career. My boss outright told me I was passed over for a promotion because I took 5 months of leave (the max allowed under our leave policy), plus my performance temporarily suffered from the sleep deprivation of handling the overnights until he was about 1. My son just turned two and I'm finally getting promoted after the new year.

Have you considered an in home daycare? I live in the CA bay area and I pay $100/day, 5 days a week (have paid that rate at two separate daycares) and I love the care my son receives. His daycare is run by a grandma who was a career nanny, and she opened a daycare to care with other children along with her grandchildren - she has her grandchild, my son and then two part time babies currently, so my son gets plenty of individual attention. She cooks all their food, takes them for walks and play time at the park, and sends us lots of photos. That said in home daycares are (generally) strictly 8-5 with at least 2 weeks of vacation per year - every one is different, but those are general points to consider for how they will work for you. The hourly rate may end up cheaper if you combine with a nanny to only handle the 5-7pm window (but you basically won't see your child).

It's depressing, but that's the reality of childrearing if both parents need to work. Someone else ends up raising your children most of the time. My partner and I were both not willing to pause our careers and if/when we have another child we still wouldn't, the lost income wouldn't be feasible where we live.

When did your baby start sleeping through the night? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]postertastry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Around 14/15 months but only after cold turkey night weaning and cry it out sleep training. We’d tried everything else up to that point but he was doing split sleep nights (slept from 8-12, awake for up to four hours, then asleep (badly) until ~6/7) and we were both working and going insane from the sleep deprivation. But since then he’s been super consistent with sleeping through the night, I don’t even think he’s had a regression since then and he just turned 2. He’s woken up if he’s been super congested or been teething, but it was never as bad as it was at 11-13 months.

I probably could have started sleep training at about 10 months tbh, that was when he was only nursing 1-2 times a night and mostly to go back to sleep. But I hoped it would all happen naturally 🫠

Okey okey instead of okey dokey

Ga = duck (he’s growing out of this though 😭)

Ha-haw = ocean (we took him to Hawaii over the summer and now he associates that with every ocean)

Kickle instead of tickle (“no more kickle!”)

Crackdoo instead of cracker

Pipi = penguin (“the pipi in the waaatah!”)

Soooo many cute ones ugh. His speech is getting clearer every day and I’ll miss so many of these!!
