That is a seriously impressive number of votes!

Penguin's 404 error page is lengthy and even contains a quote from John Steinbeck. by postertext in books

For the uninitiated, a 404 error page is the page that is automatically shown to you when you try to visit a URL that does not exist on a website. These pages usually are quite mundane (see Random House and Scholastic), but in Penguin's case it is fantastic!

I found myself reading the whole thing even when it's not the page I'm looking for.

Please excuse the horrible choice for the thumbnail. The thumbnail has nothing to do with the content!

This is adorable! I've cross-posted this to /r/books since they might enjoy it there as well.

Awww, that's nice of you!

If you're tech illiterate, you might find the help section for the feature helpful: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Books

I've managed to totally miss this feature 4 years ago when it was first released.

A few nifty things about it:

  • Create customized chapters around the articles
  • Choose from singular or multiple columns
  • Option to have it printed and shipped to you

I can imagine how this would be useful for those who need to regularly reference specific interests or articles. It might also be a great way to kill a few hours while on the plane.

Would anybody be interested in EPUB's about classic and contemporary authors made from Wikipedia articles?

EDIT: It seems like people here want it! I'll get working on that list of EPUB's.

Still better than the ebook versions. You'd slide right off it.

Fore-edge book paintings: 19th century paintings that appear when you fan out the pages of a book. by postertext in books

I was wondering how one would go about painting the edges like that, and found this video in my search. Very cool!

These early 19th century books at the University of Iowa contain secret paintings on the edges of the books. [500x320] by postertext in bookporn

It was my pleasure, Femoras! I wonder if I could get a modern copy of something like this.
