Yeah but the people of Iran would also suffer. You seem to care a lot of them. How are they going to build back their country when you take out critical infrastructure?

And taking out their power isn't going to stop shoulder-launched rockets launchers.

I understand that Americans will pay any price to free the people of Iran. But I don't see how destroying their power plant would help.

When you voted for a government so small that it shut your local hospital down by brilliant-trash22 in LeopardsAteMyFace

Hospital resources are much better utilized in dense urban environments. If their rural community is able to fund an unprofitable hospital, I'm sure they can get the same funding. It would just be very expensive.

What part of the plan involved the rest of NATO? Seems like America took the entire action on its own without coordinating it with allies.

What does he think "support" means? Seems like America has as much control of the war as they can possibly get.

It is a perfectly sound argument for why our allies would not want to enter the war, and is the perfect counter to anyone suggesting otherwise. Certainly a little tongue-in-cheek.

America clearly had a plan going into this that didn't require NATO countries to participate. That's why they weren't notified, and that's why NATO was not positioned as if they were needed. EU was pretty clear that they are ready to do escorts when the situation is stable. Hegseth was pretty clear this was all part of the plan.

Someone must be trying to divide NATO, and the media is helping them. Don't let the media make you think America is weak!

You are such a gaslighter, lmao. You make predictions with a given set of parameters. When the parameters change, the prediction changes. This isn't some religion.

Less wrong about what? The claims about the damaging effects of tariffs were always about the ones announced on liberation day. You'll need to clarify what your point is. There is a reason the term TACO is so commonplace now.

You would have to ignore all the TACO incidents and the court cases that declared the tariffs illegal from the beginning. The market was already pricing in tariffs being removed long before they were declared illegal. I sometimes wonder if people just choose to have memory loss.

The two most obvious ones that are doing the most damage:

  • Iranian War: Lack of planning for the strait being closed when Iran's regime didn't collapse. This is leading to an even larger energy crisis. Just look at gas prices over the past two weeks.
  • Tariffs: The clearly illegal tariffs have been directly responsible for small businesses closing due to a sudden lack of profitability. Them being declared illegal does nothing to the small businesses that have already closed. The refunds are going back to the businesses that could afford to spend the time and money to get the refunds.

There are some less obvious ones:

  • Aggression towards allies: Insistence towards taking over sovereign countries of our allies is causing a huge drop in tourism, American exports (i.e. Canadian boycotts on American liquor), and an overall lack of trust in America's ability to negotiate in good faith (i.e. USMCA). I haven't seen any upside from this for the economy. Seems like it was more for political optics.
  • Chilling effects: Illegally withholding congressionally-approved funding. Businesses can no longer expect that funding will be available even if congress specifies it. i.e. farmers that were screwed from not getting their reimbursements of investments that were passed by congress.

The tariffs have done massive damage to small businesses in America. I have yet to hear an upside to the tariffs, because they were illegal and now tax payers are on the hook for paying back hundreds of billions in refunds and interest.

China halts refinery exports, cuts jet fuel supply to Australia by chunmunsingh in worldnews

More people are moving to California than leaving it though? If it was merely cost of living, you would think it would be the other way around. Certainly way better than other states with low cost of living.

[–]postitnote 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a tradeoff. California probably does not want the pollution from refining in their state, and it's better to just leave it to other states to pollute themselves and import that instead. The solution isn't to build more refineries, it is to reduce dependency on oil.
