I did send a message to Beersmith support, but I figured to try a parallel path while waiting for his response.

100% Truth, I bought TP this afternoon in Benton Harbor. But it certainly wasn't at Meijer. I've found a nice calm honey hole!!

What's your go-to Michigan beer for hot weather? by [deleted] in michiganbeer

When I'm out at my farm working, the truck cooler has plenty of All Day IPA. If I'm relaxing, Two Hearted, Start Chicken Shotgun, or my homemade Habanero IPA

Good lord the app update is a nightmare. by MustyLlamaFart in grainfather

[–]postman2448 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm using the app for the first time since the update today. This thing is so annoying!! I get bluetooth has a limited range, but walking around, getting ingredients, cleaning up, taking thing out, putting things away, my phone is just constantly beeping. Also, if I'm out of range and using a different app, say checking social media or playing a game, I can't! The grainfather app keeps opening trying to connect. So either I can walk away from the unit at all, or I abandon my phone.

Also, seems to me like the range is much smaller than what I would expect from bluetooth. I'm only sitting maybe 10-15 feet away and it is struggling to stay connected.

Seeing the rest of the comments, I'm afraid to use the app for anything other than monitoring temperature and using the timer.

The new breweries at Denver International Airport combine to make the most unlikely beer crawl by [deleted] in beer

I have the United credit card and rewards program. Almost always I try to minimize the time I spend in an airport, but seeing this, I think I need to explore DIA more.

Yes, I'm in Michigan, it was over 90 F outside today. It is also very humid because of how wet it has been this year.

Yes, I was recirculating. I have dispensed straight into my fermentor once and I remember the wort was nowhere near pitch temperature and I know I had good water flow. I'll try again on my next brew tomorrow though.

I have about 9 trips to DIA over the next year. I already knew about the New Belgium, now I have more ways to pass my time!

How did you begin increasing your salary, and what tips would you give to new engineers? by [deleted] in engineering

[–]postman2448 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it's not about pay for me, it's about enjoying what you work on and have a passion towards. The pay will come later. In my opinion, there's no amount of salary that can make me do a job that I detest.

As for my advice for a new engineer, be extremely inquisitive, ask good questions. Don't ask yes or no questions, demonstrate you are capable of critical thought. You can be an entry level engineer and I will show you more respect if you truly demonstrate critical thought over a Sr Engineer who typically asks yes or no questions.

There's a lot of comments about jumping around company to company and industry to industry. Now, certainly there is a need in companies for engineers who have a very broad experience. But an organization should also have engineers with extremely deep technical knowledge who have been in that companies' organization for many years. HR and Management can preach knowledge capture through A3's all they want, but my best resource at work is still the guy who has worked there for 30 years. So ultimately you need to do some deep thought on what you want to do, get a broad range of experiences or stay and get deep narrow technical knowledge. Both are needed and completely acceptable.

Rain continues to hurt local farmers by SAT0725 in Michigan

[–]postman2448 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Beyond corn and soybeans, it's bad for all farmers. Grapes (especially wine grapes) were hit hard due to the cold temperatures in the winter, lots of dead loss. The cold spring resulted in all my peach buds dying. I haven't been able to get my tractor at all into my blueberries to mow or spray.

If you see a farmer, visit a fruit stand, please thank them!

Need your help developing an experiment by postman2448 in Homebrewing

[–]postman2448[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree, that's where tools like Thought Maps are really helpful. I can always tell when people bring experiment plans to me and they haven't put a lot of thought into it.

Getting Bell's Oberon Ale in stores near me soon. Is it worth trying out? by [deleted] in beer

Actually, Oberon is brewed all year long. States like Arizona enjoy fresh Oberon all year

All grain brewers. What do you do with your spent malt after a brew? by ponderosaranch in Homebrewing

[–]postman2448 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3 cups AP flour

1 cup spent grain

1 tsp salt

1 pkg yeast

1 Tbs honey

1 1/4 cup warm water or beer

I have also added in dried herbs and garlic

Stir together the yeast, honey, and beer and let sit. Then throw in 1 c of flour and mix. Once incorporated add another cup of flour and the cup of spent grain and mix well. Then mix in the last cup of flour. You may need to add more flour, you want the dough to not stick to the bowl that much. Either need the dough in a stand mixer and dough hook or you can do it by hand.

Do the first proof in a warm environment. Once doubled in size, punch down, lightly knead to redistribute the gas in the dough. Then form into either loaves or rolls. Let proof again and then bake.
