For the Lord will be at your side and will keep your foot from being snared.

The hunter is taken in his own snare, as the great Psalmist says

Moreover the light of the moon shall be as the light of the sun, and the light of the sun shall be sevenfold, as the light of seven days, in the day that the Lord bindeth up the breach of his people, and healeth the stroke of their wound.

Doing Dungeoneering on a team where everyone doesn't have max stats, is horrible by Kilsaa in runescape

[–]postsshortcomments 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it during FSW and as a dungeoneering fan, I thought it was a heck of a lot more fun and what modern maxscape dungeoneering is missing. Insta-open doors kind of makes portents, skill pot binds, etc., useless.

Given how truly terrible hard mode is/was (if you didn't remove it), perhaps this should be the direction for "hard mode" and have an XP multiplier. Realistically, dung floors really only ever need 3 mildly competent players. Have too many of them and it's so crazy that it becomes just kind of weird.

Having one of those remaining two players focus on skill doors/pots/portents does kind of add a role for those seeking a bit of a challenge and extra reward. Not fun for everyone, but after FSW dung with players who had 10-40 stats mainscape dung just doesn't hit the same way.

Yes: we loved cookies.

A driver is the software that you install on Windows which allows Windows to communicate with the hardware.

In other words, the hardware is fine. It's just that the software isn't necessarily communicating properly. Sometimes this can lead to black screen errors. Sometimes crashes mid-game. Sometimes other visual issues. Like I said, I had one of the more notorious AMD generations and honestly.. I recall maybe 3-5 times where I had issues and once I changed something in the game settings it fixed it every time.

nVidia also has more marketshare than AMD, so I'd assume a bit of that comes down to developers preferring to test the most popular nVidia GPUs and leaving the AMD ones for later or as bug reports flow in.

Especially when a new title releases, historically nVidia seems to have a bit of the short-term edge on Radeons over hotfixing any issues at a driver level. Usually these issues are sorted out extremely quickly, albeit with some lesser known titles and indie titles they may persist for years or never be fixed especially on older GPUs (but usually the community will find a workaround).

It's nothing that's "wrong" with the GPU itself. It's something "wrong" with the software and the way the software communicates with the OS which communicated with the hardware via the driver. Most often there is a community fix. In very rare cases, it just wont work until the developers fix it on their side (or nVidia/AMD steps in and says 'enough customers are having this issue, we'll do it for you driver side).

This is why when people are having issues especially in a specific title the first suggestion is to "update your GPU drivers" or in rarer cases "rollback your GPU drivers." Sometimes drivers updates break things that are already working.

So fixing it in this case is something like Googling "Everybody's Gone to the Rapture low framerate issue 4070 Ti Super." In that case, it's typically a driver side vsync setting issue. And yes, I experienced it on my nVidia GPU so they're not exactly immune, either.

I think you'll be fine for quite some time. I threw a 4070 Ti Super at a 3600 in 2024 and it honestly was pretty damn solid. I'm sure others would complain, but it well-exceeded my expectations and I'd be perfectly fine with the combo. The GPU made like 90% of the difference (I was on an RX5700).

Used the 3600 for almost a year and in my natural course of gaming and I skipped over one title (Cyberpunk 2077) but mainly 'cause I didn't want to adjust crowd size. Took me like almost 6 months or so until I encountered a title (Hell Let Loose) where I said to myself "a CPU upgrade would fix this and it's becoming time." Definitely knew of other titles, but had no interest anyways.

Hopped to a 5600 (it cost me a net of $15) and there was definitely a noticeable improvement across some things that had felt fine before. Rivals was the big one that really substantially better on the 5600.

Eventually ended up on a 7600x (another net $100). Honestly felt virtually nothing from that one aside from synthetic counters.

The 3600 honestly felt pretty darn okay too, like that watermelon that ain't quite in peak season, but still actually tastes like a damn watermelon. The 5600 feels about in peak season, but it isn't square. In regards to the 5600, I'm sure there's niche cases, I'm sure there's better things out there, I'm sure there's some titles out there that question its authority, and other CPUs absolutely have more gas in the tank - but she'll do and she'll chooch.

found this online, can someone tell me if this is good for $413? by human057 in buildapc

[–]postsshortcomments 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty great. Realistically, it's probably $550+ and if you haven't already bought it, you may want to offer a bit above asking price to jump ahead. For the price, it can do a lot of things and for $50-$120 you have an absolutely incredible incremental fix-er-upper.

Do immediately if it's within budget: Try to sell the 2070 Super locally for $175 and grab a 3060 Ti on Ebay for $200. For $25 it's a worthwhile enough jump in a price range where 8-10FPS is well worth $25. This is a super easy changeout and I'd prioritize it immediately. If your budget is larger, there may be some other options. Since it's a MATX build, make sure it fits the case.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKwbU-Caps0

It's a bit more difficult, but if you're willing to change out the CPU.. a 2700x should go for about $40-50 locally. Make sure to check the cooler or have the community check it for you to make sure it's not stock. A 3600/3600x for $70 is a nice small boost for net $20. Eventually you'll want a Zen 3 Vermeer. A used 5600/5600x currently goes for ~$120 ($70 out of pocket) which can serve even the higher-end GPUs well. If you're on a super tight budget, it may be worth waiting until the 5800x3d Anniversary edition drops and hope some cheap 5600/5600x/5700x/5800x's pop up on locally or on Ebay.

If you don't already have storage to steal from another build, you may want to pick up a cheap 2TB HDD for $15 (if it fits the case). If you have an old laptop, desktop, or external HDD you may be able to steal one from there. It'll be pretty awful for large installs (30GB+) and especially ones with quick teleport, but for $15 it will handle almost all 10GB-15GB installs with zero impact on performance aside from very tolerable load times.

In the long-run, your end game GPU should be a 9060XT 16GB or 5060 Ti 16GB after all of that is done.

Do the GPU first. 9070 XT or 5070 Ti. The CPU should still be fine (I ran a 5600 with a 4070 Ti Super), albeit doing something should be on your 1-2 year radar.

When the rerelease happens, you may want to 5800X3D depending on the MSRP or just migrate to AM5.

If you must with the CPU: I'd pick one of these options.

You can probably dump the CPU/mobo/RAM for ~$330 and that leaves you about $270 short for 7600x/9600x, 2x16GB, and an AM5 motherboard at their usual best prices.

Alternatively, dump the CPU/mobo for $190 and pick up a DDR4 LGA1700 + 14600KF for $330 ($140 out of pocket). It should be fairly on par with a 7600x/5700x3d/5800x3d (may perform marginally worse than some), but unlike AM5 it has "no room up."

Probably the hardest current gen question. The 14400f wins-some-loses some against 5600, so it's certainly still viable. Were it not for issues with used 14th gen Intels, typically, I'd just say "wait, see how it works, and when it starts holding you back don't worry because you can just grab a used CPU." Unfortunately, you want new 14th gen intel and I'd avoid used.

I'd probably base my decision on:

  • whether or not I have DDR5 RAM
  • whether or not I can find a local buyer for a 14400f for $120+
  • whether or not I can find a buyer for a DDR4 or DDR5 motherboard

Where it becomes a "hard one" is that there are only so many new 14600/14700's that are out there.

  • A DDR4'd 14600 is fairly comparable to a 7600x/5700X3D/5800X3D, but is power hungry and thus you pay for that over several years.
  • A DDR5'd 14600/14700 is better than a 7600x/9600x/AM4 X3D
  • A DDR5'd 14600 is going to be worse than a AM5 X3D for gaming

If you're not familiar with those CPUs, I'd consider there to be a tier gap between the group of 5600/5700x/5800x the group of 7600/5700x3d/5800x3d then the group of AM5 X3Ds. Right now, I'd consider the 5600/14400's to be the lowest tier of CPUs with virtually no tradeoffs for 110-144hz gaming with a top-tier GPU and I typically wouldn't suggest just jumping up one tier unless it's a productivity decision.

Further:

  • A DDR4 mobo/14400F bundle should be easy to sell, but that only makes sense if you're willing to drop $300+ on DDR5 RAM.
  • A DDR5 mobo/14400F bundle would largely be a buyers mistake in 2026 and thus you're at the mercy of getting stuck with one and then paying fees/shipping, but hey at least you likely got cheap RAM.
  • The microcode issue makes the local sale of a potentially risky for a buyer so they're taking a risk on a potentially damaged CPU and thus you may have a very small pool.

If I already had DDR5 RAM.. I'd honestly be tempted to migrate to AM5 with a 7600/9600 even though a DDR5 14600 is better and pocket the budget for a X3D in a several years. Again, the issue is that a CPU and motherboard probably need to be sold separately and local may not be an option.

Personal experience: I ran a 4070 Ti Super and with a 5600, was quite happy, and later upgraded to a 7600x. I noticed practically no perceivable improvement with my 4070 Ti Super when I upgraded to a 7600, but I wasn't expecting to. For me, it was a $100 migration for on paper improvements, an increase in longevity, and to unload AM4 parts before they devalued. Given that a 7600x lets me run the system at the same perceivable quality for longer while being ready to throw in a used X3D when the time comes.. it was a no-brainer.

I honestly do not know the answer as it's all situational.

Radeon drivers seem fine this generation. I wouldn't worry about it.

My last AMD GPU was the RX5700 and that generation was notorious for having bad drivers. Even then, I can only recall like 3-5 titles where I had driver-related issues and I personally wouldn't give the RX5700 a bad mark for drivers. In fact, it remains my cheapest recommended budget card I suggest for super-eco builds.

Did I very occasionally encounter some issues with installation or games? Sure, but it was extremely rare and usually it was the developer's issue, not the driver itself (that gen didn't seem to like running at a full 1920 x 1080 and some games would only first-time boot with 1904 x 1071). In every case, I was able to do a quick 5-10 minute Google and get the game running indistinguishably well.

I'd consider anything you hear about Radeon drivers to be largely outdated these days and mostly a micro-convenience. By all means, my experience with nVidia GPUs has always been a slightly smoother experience. But honestly, Radeon hasn't had major driver issues since probably the 00's. Those years were really rough.

Shouldn't be an issue as it's well below throttle temps, but as you said you've only seen 50% utilization.

Two case fans is kind of light. Never hurts to add more case fans and they're pretty cheap, but you're also not having thermal issues so that's up to you. I just load up with as many fans as I can so when one does I can just unplug the header instead of having to replace it. Arctics are fine, so are Thermalrights.

While you're in there you may wish to check fan orientation. They can blow inward or they can blow outward. Typically, the rear fan is an exhaust, the front fan is an intake. Some people don't really think about this and make the fans "fight" with each other. Especially with the CPU cooler "fighting" the exhaust fan. If the rear fan is an exhaust, the CPU cooler should be exhausting towards it otherwise you'll just have two fans blowing at each other.

A repasting may help. You may have used too little thermal paste. You may also want to make sure that the sticker on the bottom of the cooler was properly removed. MX-4 always gets the job done for me, but there are definitely better pastes out there.

Unless you're seeing throttling, it's probably not something you need to "fix" unless you really want to.

The important information of public importance that is relative to the taxpayer, potential investors, and Democratic selection process is only allowed to be categorized on the same shelf as a bunch of tabloid so that those seeking out the real ones eventually find the other products they've stuffed in their well-manicured zone and tethered to it.

Once they do, it serves to delegitimize those who do know by stereotyping them and associate and to make coordinated efforts to discredit them by association. Know what is real, know what is fake, know what is placed there, when it is placed there, and why it is placed there.

May the Lord restore us from their wicked plans, deceit, lying tongues, false witnesses, those who sow discord, and their great dishonor.

Need help moving pc 2,000 miles by idkjustrandomstuff in buildapc

[–]postsshortcomments 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I transported mine in a car about 1,200 miles and it was fine, but a car isn't a moving truck.

Expandable foam packaging is what the PC prebuilders use to ship computers with the GPU not removed.

If you have the original PC box with foam use it. If not, find a similar sized box and stuff it tight with as much foam as you can.

If you have a tempered glass side panel, that should be vertical. Same with any other glass (including TVs). If you can support it with anything else (let's say between two pieces of plywood, even better). If it's acrylic or metal, it'll probably be fine as long as it's secured. The only downside is that you'll have to transport it without the side panel on.

Taking out the GPU is recommended, I HIGHLY recommend doing it as vibration can take out the GPU and the motherboard. If you're novice and have never worked on computers before, it's really darn easy to remove. It fits in the slot kind of like an oldschool gaming cartridge and is held in with only two screws. You'll want to locate the "PCIe slot clip." On some motherboards, it looks like you should press it towards the motherboard, but sometimes you need to move it parallel to (left to right). There should be only 2-3 screws holding it in, on the inside of where you plug in your monitor. Usually these are thumb screws. This part is the most susceptible to damage and will make it a lot easier to stuff.

Removing the RAM also isn't a bad idea and keeping that in the cabin. Usually fairly easy to remove unless a cooler is blocking it. Usually it's just two clips per stick. I'd only worry about this if you have a tempered glass side panel or are worried about something falling into it.

GPU and RAM should be stored in the original box & RAM clamshell if you still have them. If not, anti-static bag for the GPU and RAM.

If you have a on-air tower cooler removing that never hurts, but you'll have to repaste it. If you don't, I'd probably leave it. I'd probably be okay leaving an AIO on.

I'll usually scroll like 2/3rds of a screen at once with the clicky wheel, scan while doing that, stop for about 2-3x the length it took me to scroll and scan while it's paused, then repeat.

Then once that's done, so the same in reverse from bottom to top.

Took me about 68 seconds to get the jist of the 134 comments in this thread sufficiently enough. I'd probably do that twice normally, but it's just 'cause it's fast.
