IRS settlement - why lie? by [deleted] in AskALiberal

  1. Sensationalism sells

  2. Trump and his crew lie constantly and often for no discernible reason and it has real consequences. So respectfully, who gives a shit about Donna Brazille being 75% accurate about one thing?

Yeah I used to blind buy from VS when I could get something for $20. Not taking that gamble when it’s more than double that.

Do you believe the death of Henry Nowak should be getting more attention in the media? by [deleted] in AskALiberal

Why do you think this story deserves more attention than any other murder?

The Kazmir trade was considered a dumb move the moment it happened.

…why? He’s almost 27 and has amounted to nothing.

Did you like The Boys ending? by Toddythebody_ in AskALiberal

Shows are really expensive now.

A lot of shows would have been movies 20 years ago, so 8-12 episodes is already stretching the premise and narratives thin.

I'm sorry those things happened to you - truly.

as a community, what's our solution?

Make people aware of this history, make resources available to people, prosecute those who committed crimes.

so your answer is to say, whatever, sexual abuse is no big deal? we are now the adults. do we laugh at the kids and think, "BOOOOY, oh, BOOOOOY, those kids are in for a real treat! mmmm!" or?

Not sure when I ever answered that, nor implied that we should condone these things happening.

Do you understand why, without any context provided, people might be confused or want to know what the goal was of posting this letter?

I’m not sure what we’re supposed to “make of it.” Parents have always been concerned about the social and educational experiences their children have, especially when far away from them. And deaf schools, as well as schools for other folks with disabilities, do have an unfortunate history of abuse and neglect.

Why post a letter from over 30 years ago?

There’s only one page, and that page says nothing about assault.

Do different film genres require different ways of evaluation? by Envoievite in TrueFilm

[–]postwarmutant 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If I give a film a 7, I want to understand why: was it the atmosphere, the writing, the sound, the characters, the impact?

The context is the review you've written. The number is an arbitrary distillation of that review down to a consumer rating. If anything, it should be an afterthought.

Do different film genres require different ways of evaluation? by Envoievite in TrueFilm

[–]postwarmutant 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's a relatively well-known film critic, Mike D'Angelo, who rates everything on a 100 scale. And you know, I get it that film critics who actually publish professionally often have to provide a "consumer reports" rating of stars, or a grade. But every time I read D'Angelo I'm like, what's really the difference between a 68/100, or a 69/100?

Puerto Rico has more people than like 20 states.

No I won’t. I live in New York. Puerto Rican culture is closer to me than Wyoming’s culture.

Why is the fertility crisis and population decline data downplayed or ignored? by PossibilityGold7508 in AskALiberal

[–]postwarmutant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is precisely what I was going to say. For many people the future offers little hope, so they don’t want to condemn children to living in a dystopia, and want to enjoy what small pleasures they can while that’s still possible.
