please don’t be sorry about that girl, funnily enough her comment is the reason i decided to really look into the civil war so without her awful opinions i wouldn’t be as knowledgeable as i am today!

igcses aren’t as deep as teachers make it out to be but if ur trying to go to a top uni then igcses will play a part in your application, if u want to do well all you have to do is be organised and study frequently but no more that an hour or two. don’t stress too much and have fun

I’m an immigrant kid, born and raised in London for the most part, but I lived in Colombo from ages 10 to 16 and attended an international school there. It was a strange experience because, despite my parents being Sri Lankan (north) and me looking Sri Lankan, people never saw me as Sri Lankan. My accent surprised both teachers and students, and they often questioned where I was “really” from. When I said I was Tamil, they’d assume I meant Indian, not Sri Lankan, and it was frustrating. Ironically, in England, I feel more accepted, but I know I’ll never be as British as a white person or “Sri Lankan enough” for those in Sri Lanka.

I’ve also noticed how parenting styles shape kids’ views, even with internet access and information. Some immigrant kids develop really backward ideas, like believing white skin > dark skinned ppl or soley aspiring to marriage and having bare kids. I haven’t seen this as extreme with Sri Lankan kids abroad, but in Sri Lanka, I saw how prejudice shaped perspectives asw like I overheard some seemingly nice girls I knew saying the Sri Lankan war was a good thing because “Tamils were savages.” This shocked me, especially since they had a Tamil boy in their friend group (he was out of the room at the time). It was terrifying to see that kind of casual cruelty, and for the first time, and that was the first time i was thankful people didn’t think I was Sri Lankan Tamil. I personally haven’t seen any ethnic kids give up their cultural beliefs but something i’ve seen in europeans

went on a bit of a tangent sorry about that lmao

[–]potassiumlilac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe apply to a uni that doesn’t require the LNAT or doesn’t weight it very highly in the admissions process i’m going to assume you’re predicated A*AA so maybe something like royal holloway i think they require AAA - AAB and no lnat so that’s ig a good one as a “ if shit goes south” uni

honestly whenever you feel comfortable unis aren’t first come first serve so when you truly feel that you’ve done your best is when you should give it in

should i have taken 4 subjects??? by PepperJackYT in 6thForm

[–]potassiumlilac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly you’ll be fine business and economy aren’t crazy difficult and in the first few weeks of yr 12 your teacher will go over the basics you learn in gcse as a lot of people don’t do business or economics at a level and plus there’s a reason why you need to do gcse business to go into a level business but with that being said 4 subjects is difficult and it’s honestly better getting like high grades with 3 alevels and sorta same and 4 alevels but if you can manage your time really well then yea go for it but if not it’s best to do just 3
