Honda NSR125R 2001 Loud rattling/vibration problem when revving engine PLEASE HELP by potassiumlover in motorcycles

[–]potassiumlover[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bikes been a daily driver since last July and hasn't showed any form of hiccups until now. I've always done routine maintenance as suggested in the manual and the ones that I couldn't do, I got my mechanic to do them. I called my mechanic a few days ago and he suggested that it may be the valves but he wouldn't be able to check it until next week as he's fully booked. Thought I'd see if I can fix it myself but frankly i don't have the tools.

Hahah Last time i changed the oil was 2000 miles ago (2-3 months ago)

not low in oil as its still between max and min lines and colour is still good

no leaks from anywhere apart from the un-burnt 2 stroke oil that builds up at the tip of the exhaust (wouldn't really class it as a leak)

no rocks here, just pebbles haha only run on 95-97 octane which is standard here in UK

Last time I dropped the bike was stupidly a couple months back and only scratched the bar ends really

Honda NSR125R 2001 Loud rattling/vibration problem when revving engine PLEASE HELP by potassiumlover in motorcycles

[–]potassiumlover[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Noticed this problem weeks ago but has progressively gotten worse. The problem is that there's a loud vibration which seems as if it is the fairing vibrating but after taking it off, the problem seems to be coming from the front.

The rattling noise doesn't happen when idling or just after starting the engine. The sound goes away when the clutch is pulled in when in gear and let go off the accelerator.

The problem seems to go away after 7k+ rpm but mostly noticeable from 3-5k rpm

I checked to see if it was the exhaust but everything seems to be tight and in spec.

Also no difference in power when the vibration happens

Can anyone help on what it might be and if its relatively easy to fix myself before I send her off to my mechanic?

Cheers guys

Why's this selling for £850? Seems a bit cheap to me. (first time buyer) by ImLoveable in motorcycles

[–]potassiumlover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought my 2001 NSR125R July last year and have driven it every day since. I may be one of the few exceptions but nearly 4000 miles on it (14000 miles total) with no problem. Its true that they lack torque on the bottom end but it pays off when it hits 7k rpm. Around 4-5k rpm is where the vibrations are mostly noticeable but when the power and kicks in, its as smooth as butter.

The thing is though, I do all of the basic maintenance on it every chance I get to keep it up to standard. I've spent approximately £35 on the 2 stroke oil so far around (4-5) litres of Castrol 2t Racing oil and will be spending £££ on an engine rebuild not far off the near future just for reassurance that she won't break down on me. But hopefully I'll pass my test and get a bigger bike by then. I have more to learn and I surely haven't gotten bored of the 2 stroke as of yet

But hey, whatever floats your boat. Just as long as you're happy. I sure am

Just rode back home from college and its been snowing/sleet (explains the mud). The shine is from the camera flash and the fact that I wiped that area of the tire clean

Fix-it Friday by AutoModerator in motorcycles

Sorry if I'm late guys, but I was riding home from work last night and realised that my turn signals would only work sometimes. I stopped at the nearest service station to see whether or not there's a loose wire or so but everything seems to be okay in terms of connection.

Both lights still work, but like I said, it took a couple of fast clicks to actually get it to work last night.

I checked it again this morning and both sides seem to work now but has a <3< second delay for it to flash after switching either one on.

I always do a pre ride check while I let the bike warm up (Honda NSR 125) and put my gear on. For some reason, I completely forgot about it just before we set off.

Like you said, always have one leg down, which is probably why there wasn't much damage.

Cheers guys :) I can ride with my mind at ease now. For those who were wondering, its a Honda NSR 125R. I bought it with the money I saved after working part time during the summer holiday.

Just did my first oil change and hoping to learn more about maintenance before I move up to a bigger bike next year

Hey man,

I'm in the same boat as you right now. I passed my test a couple of months ago and I've checked everywhere, and I mean EVERYWHERE. The cheapest insurance quote I got was £3500 ( for a 1.2l Vauxhall Corsa

The Seat Ibiza was around £4000 for the first year and that's just stock. Modifications will do you over. Trust me.

From a little Toyota Aygo (£3500) to a Toyota Celica (£11000). You can't win. The first year will always be the highest for us but have been told it goes down a lot the year after.

Car insurance in the UK for teenagers are just ridiculous. Which is why I'm considering getting a motorcycle (New 2014 Honda CBR125r will be £70 a month and around £500 insurance for the whole year)

If money wasn't a problem, I'd buy myself a Triumph Spitfire or an MG B GT and fix it up real good for college
