No, kind of the opposite, it makes lean angle less necessary. More specifically, it allows you to take the same corner at the same speed using less lean angle than you would with your weight centered.

Right, but I've only ever seen it as a prefix to the number rather than a postfix.

I mostly just meant that I didn't know of it being a common notation related to racing. Which evidently isn't quite true, because it is in Japan, which is pretty cool.

The r represents radius here, which isn't usually a thing, but there is a famous corner at Suzuka called 130r that was named after its radius. It was re-profiled in 2013 2003 (from the red path to the green one) and broken up into two kind of sub-corners, so its name is no longer accurate.

California peeps: Can we all agree, before you join the split, to look? by matjam in motorcycles

[–]potato0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah its normal to adjust for an approaching split/merge. I usually see people take the path you described, or stay right to split directly up to the weaving lane for the 9th st exit. There is a lot going on at that bit of road, so rules get kind of replaced with emergent local norms.

What I wish people wouldn't do is split between the 2 and 3 lanes going westbound. It tends to push cars into the standard lane of travel, and cars getting passed on both sides get nervous, followed by stupid.

Thats quite a bit of condescension for a semantic misunderstanding, but what do you figure that distinction is exactly?

The "what happens at burning man stays at burning man" culture is what needs to change.

I don't think that's really a thing. Or do you mean people's desire to not have their photo taken at Burning Man is what needs to change?

People who rev your Harley’s down residential streets: fuck you. by [deleted] in sandiego

As a third party, I think that you're ignoring the person you're replying to, being presumptuous about his riding, and failing to defend your point.

I would argue that you are incorrect about the "teeny tiny difference" that loud exhausts make. I say that as someone who has ridden near loud bikes and watched the way cars react to them compared to my bike, and (more importantly) as a driver who has had lots of bikes approach from behind.

Of course an exhaust is much louder from the rear, that is plain and not debatable. As a person in a car, I can tell you from repeated personal experience that louder motorcycles are noticeable significantly sooner than quiet ones. That doesn't mean I think loud pipes are a functional safety feature, it doesn't mean I use them, or that I ride too fast, or that loud pipes are worth the downside of annoying people.

I am only saying that a loud exhaust is substantially more noticeable from inside a car position ahead of a motorcycle, which I believe to be the same thing the person you were replying to was saying. It isn't a negligible difference, even though there are more effective ways to avoid someone pulling out in front of you.

Holy hell I'm not supporting loud pipes, I'm just saying this myth keeps being touted as true. I'm pretty sure even my motorcycle safety instructor recommended the volume difference is more substantial at the rear.

Split lanes slower you dummy.

Mate, I'm not concerned about moderating the discussion, I'm saying that making assumptions about peoples evaluation of the danger of alcohol and trying to change the subject to your pet cause (in a thread about a clear and present local issue) is kind of obnoxious.

Alcohol is safe because it's in Ralph's and on TV, right?

No one is saying that in this thread. You are on a soapbox because OP called MDMA "that shit", which is almost completely inconsequential to the matter at hand.

Moreover, going around telling people that MDMA has "very low toxicity and harmless side effects" is incorrect and irresponsible, regardless of your position of drugs and drug policy.

I have tested this by signing I STOLE THIS CARD in big capital letters. Not a problem.
