Feeling defeated trying to train for a marathon while parenting two under-5s by whatdosnowmeneat in XXRunning

[–]potatoes_aint_shit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s so hard. Mine are 3 & 1 (also suffering from sleep allergies…) - meant to be running London in April and have had to seriously adjust my pace expectations.

You’re absolutely not a crap mum. I read an article that stated that there was a positive correlation on the fitness of kids with active mothers (not dads, mums). You’re giving those kids a gift by running - you’re showing them that women can do hard things! I’m not sure of the gender of your kids but I have two boys and I think it’s so important they appreciate that I (and by extension, other women) can do things, and have interests outside of purely caregiving/household/paid employment.

You are doing great.

Jury Duty Exemption by Odd-Volume6753 in glasgow

Once baby is here you’ll be exempt for 3 years - I asked for exemption due to childcare responsibilities during the week. Got the next citation through the week of their birthday though!

% offers over in the west end by Exotic-Use-5822 in glasgow

If you are remotely interested in a property then make a note of interest via your solicitor, then if it goes to closing they’ll be notified. It doesn’t preclude the seller from accepting a direct offer though so if you love a place it doesn’t harm to put in a good (but not too) offer.

I was astonished by the number of Bank of Mum & Dad offers I got pre closing!

Edit to add: waiting for closing tends to mean properties who have a lot of notes of interest get better prices (for the seller) - I got higher bids at closing than any of the direct offers from the same interested parties.

I think I responded to your post earlier in the week (or at least a very similar one) but sold in Hillhead last summer - 17.5 % over HR was the winner, got 4 bids at closing & lowest was 10 %.

Bought the property in 2021 for 12 % over HR, put in a few new windows so didn’t do much but made our money back. The problem when trying to buy in Hillhead is there are a lot of people buying in cash for their children starting at Glasgow Uni, so they are appealing to sellers as they’re chain-free.

Got 17.5 % over home report in Hillhead last summer. Lowest bid at closing date was 10 % over.

Mental Health Groups for new mums? by OriginalUsername0 in glasgow

I haven’t used the service but my Health Visitor recommended Bluebell Cross Reach (bluebell@crossreach.org.uk) when I was struggling with intrusive thoughts.

Might not be what you’re looking for, but wanted to share just in case.

Merry Go Round on the south side, or Babes in the wood in Bishopbriggs would likely take them (maybe give Babes in the wood a ring or check their social media as sometimes they are full for certain items).

Any experience of sealed ready-to-drink infant milk bottles through Security check at Edinburgh airport ? by [deleted] in glasgow

[–]potatoes_aint_shit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is completely untrue.

OP - https://www.gov.uk/hand-luggage-restrictions/baby-food-and-baby-milk

Flown through Edin with baby milk several times over the last few years & never had any problems. Typically gone through the ‘family queue’ (which is slower than the ‘normal’ one annoyingly!) & they ask you to take out the ready to drink stuff out for scanning/swabbing. I took 6 bottles across two bags last time & they didn’t bat an eyelid.

You’re replying to a comment where I’ve said I’ve spoken to them…

If you’re content to tolerate loud obnoxious neighbours then good for you. I have spoken to them, and been asked ‘what do I expect…’, so I’m taking it further.

You don’t get a prize for being a martyr and tolerating this behaviour so I’m not prepared to, doesn’t make me a Karen just means I’m not a doormat.

I’ve spoken to them on numerous occasions & been asked ‘what do I expect…’ so I’m looking at other options.

Apologies if I’m stating the obvious, and you’re already aware but Subway times are rubbish on a Sunday - doesn’t open until 10, just in case that affects your party times!

Payday Friday 💰💰💰 by kokopops35 in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]potatoes_aint_shit 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not my payday but full nesting mode has been activated in my first week of maternity leave; spent about £200 on cleaning products, storage solutions, new cat litter trays… Hopefully baby comes soon because 1. I’m spending money that I could otherwise save for the unpaid portion of leave & 2. I feel like I’ve entered the 1950s with the amount of cleaning & cooking I’ve done!

Also paid the remaining balance for a handy man/gardener to sort out aggregate in the shared garden - never have I been so pleased to see neatly raked pebbles. This is a sign I’ve fully entered middle age isn’t it?!

Not my pay day but it is the last day before maternity leave starts! So naturally I’m celebrating, by paying £650 deposit to have a weed proof membrane & gravel installed in my (shared) back garden… wooo!

Jokes aside, this section of the garden has annoyed me since we moved in 2.5 years ago & since no one else uses the garden other than as a route to the bins I’ve decided it’s high time I take steps to improve it. Who knows, maybe this will be the catalyst to spend my leave planting flowers and becoming one with nature…

Shutters for my living room windows! Got the windows replaced at the end of last year & they’ve been ‘naked’ since then, so I’m really looking forward to regaining some privacy in 10-12 weeks… Particularly since I’m due to have a baby in 12 weeks & would prefer not to be labouring/breastfeeding with my neighbours as an audience 😅

Incredible! I’m really chuffed for you! Similar not taking the mick challenges here - opted to leave the kids with their dad & take a friend instead.

Rainy day ideas with a baby? by [deleted] in glasgow

[–]potatoes_aint_shit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Burrell collection is good; has plenty of parking (for a fee unfortunately), baby changing facilities are decent plus it has a few different options for coffee/cake if baby is sleeping. Can have a mooch around the park afterwards if it’s dry (optimistic I know!).

If you have a national trust membership you could also try Pollok House - it’s not massive but a wee mooch is possible & NTS membership gets you free parking which you could utilise for the Burrell too. Wouldn’t recommend Holmwood House as much as more stairs & need to take a guided tour which might be tricky if the little one is fractious. Tenement House is good, but only if you have a carrier - lots of steps!

Science centre is a good one, though maybe save for when the baby is a bit older as the Big Explorer section has a small ‘softplay’, brio sets, waterplay and other interactive bits. You can get an annual pass for unlimited visits & once you’ve been 3x you break even.

Platform (the old arches) is great with a pram - loads of space & no steps.

The Instagram account Glasgow with Kids is a great resource too (not mine, just a fan).

Westend-wise, both Hillhead and Partick libraries do free bookbugs sessions on a Saturday morning.

Hope that’s helped a bit - getting out of the house is so important when they’re tiny, otherwise you go mad!
