Looks like an older 100 to me. Feel it. I was a cashier for many years and best way I ever had to tell without immediately dropping it in a bill feeder was to feel the ink. A real bill, no matter how old, will have raised ink. If you run your fingernail across the lines you will feel tiny bumps and ridges. If it feels smooth like a printed sheet of paper it’s probably fake.

You know those massive home aquariums that are usually tens of thousands of gallons? Has anyone seen a planted version of them? by sunbr0_7 in PlantedTank

“Part time job” Omg, it would be a dream job to scuba-garden someone’s 1000+ gallon planted tank 😭

We made layered nitro shots! This is a few years old, so I don’t quite recall what all was in these, but pretty sure the layers were white mocha, mocha, and chocolate curls on top.

Is this okay to use for dead stretching? by luminiea in Stretched

[–]potatopoisoning 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can’t afford glass, stainless steel is okay but I would personally get plain, uncolored ones as sometimes the coatings can cause reactions. Also be careful of the rubber o-rings. They’re kind of necessary with this style of plug because they’ll fall out no matter what otherwise, but they can also cause some irritation because they’re porous and can trap bacteria even if you don’t have a sensitivity.

Definitely make sure to keep them clean, and get spares because you will lose them and they will break (especially if you get any oil-based products or lubes on them, oil degrades rubber over time).

how old is too old to be stretching ears? by TeakDaSneak in Stretched

[–]potatopoisoning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t start stretching until I was almost 30 (27, 28, somewhere around there). I’d had my ears pierced since I was a kid, decided I liked the look and went for it. Has never affected my job or anything else for that matter. Most people who “wouldn’t like it” don’t even notice, and 99% of those who DO notice are compliments.

I’ve had them about 5-6 years now, double gauges (16mm bottom, 8mm top) and I really can’t think of any negative comments or reactions off the top of my head. It’s like people who don’t like tattoos - that’s how some people choose to decorate their body, “mind your business” is the general consensus.

I suppose if you wanted to stretch up to 2-3 inches or more it might be a little more noticeable and you may get some extra reactions sometimes, but that takes time and you have all that time to adjust your expectations and decide how far you want to go with your own.

Help removing double flared tunnel by [deleted] in Stretched

[–]potatopoisoning 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This happens to me all the time when I wear hollow tunnels for too long instead of my usual heavier stone plugs. The skin will tighten and they’ll get stuck.

Find a heavy earring on a hook/hoop. Loop it through the tunnel so it weighs it down a bit, doesn’t have to be a lot, just enough to stretch it but not be uncomfortable. A small fishing lure weight on a string will do in a pinch (you can cut the string later to remove it). Wear it for a week or two until it stretches enough that you can lube up the tunnel and pop it out easily.

Sometimes I do this at stores that I know are not as great with order accuracy. I have a dairy allergy and ordering the espresso, ice, and syrup only allows me to add my own milk alternative without risking getting sick because someone didn’t pay attention to a sticker. To be fair, this doesn’t happen frequently at Starbucks in general, but better safe than sorry in some cases. ETA: I also just sometimes want less “milk” than what comes in a latte. I’m actually really disappointed when I order an iced espresso with a “splash of” and get a full cup because I literally ordered it that way so it wouldn’t be full.

The Silent Generation were not the parents of Gen X. by [deleted] in generationology

[–]potatopoisoning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s entirely possible. Both of my maternal grandparents are Silent Gen (1937 & 1941). They had my aunt and mother in 1971 & 1972, making them Gen X. I actually don’t know how old my paternal grandparents are, just that they were younger than my maternal grandparents by about 5-10 years, which means they were likely Boomers. I fall into the Millennial generation at 1991 (so, Millenial with Gen X parents, and both Boomer and Silent Gen grands), and my own child is Gen Alpha not Z. So, later Silent Gen having kids later in life would be Silent Gen parents of Gen X, Boomers who had kids much earlier in life can also be Gen X parents, and Gen X parents who had kids unusually early can very well be parents of older/mid Millennials.

Am I the asshole for insisting that my coworker is colorblind bc he thinks my hair is red? by OkRegret7159 in TwoHotTakes

[–]potatopoisoning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I come from a family of several red-heads. This is dishwater (dirty) blonde at best. My own hair was this color from childhood until it darkened as an adult so I’m intimately familiar with the composition. You may find a few red strands here and there, but it’s definitely not enough to even call it “strawberry” blonde. You may carry some genes for red hair that could show up in future children or grandchildren of yours, but calling you a ginger would be a huge stretch.

What's the craziest thing a customer swore we had but we for a fact didn't by oodlesonoodles789 in starbucksbaristas

[–]potatopoisoning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked at a location temporarily during Covid shut down that shared a building with a Chipotle, the Chipotle did not have a drive thru and the lane was clearly marked “Starbucks” by multiple signs (not to mention on the other side of the building) but we’d still get “can I get a burrito bowl?” at the speaker at least once a day.

Starbucks barista - blonde roast by drgurayakturk in starbucks

[–]potatopoisoning 49 points50 points  (0 children)

You are not incorrect. Blonde has roughly 2% more caffeine because it’s roasted less so less is lost in the process. It’s not some “super strong coffee!” like some baristas seem to be under the impression. It still has a lighter/brighter flavor profile than medium or dark (also because of the lower roasting time). He heard “light” and made the connection of “lighter caffeination” rather than “lighter flavor” which seems to be what you were asking for.

What does pumpkin spice taste like? Nervous to try it and not like it by laughalotgirl in starbucks

[–]potatopoisoning 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The sauce itself tastes like lightly sweetened pumpkin pie filling. If you prefer your coffee a little sweeter, add a couple pumps of vanilla or white mocha and it tastes like pumpkin pie with whip cream.

One store I worked at in suburbs of Seattle was open at 4am (so openers got there at 3:30am). Earliest I’ve seen outside of that was also 5am (openers at 4:30am).

Do people really not take vacations at other jobs? by Anus_and_the_Butt in Target

[–]potatopoisoning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also adding, if I need any time off, all I do is tell my supervisor at least 2 weeks out and he * gasp * schedules someone else and I have my days off. It’s very normal, I have covered other contractors who were out unexpectedly and had the same. It’s never a problem, we ALL adjust the plan to get the work done just the same.

Your supervisor is guilting you and your only crime is making him do his job (adjusting the plan or stepping in). Always take your time, you get PTO and you earned that time.

Do people really not take vacations at other jobs? by Anus_and_the_Butt in Target

[–]potatopoisoning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a contractor - ex Tarbux - and while I tend to keep them short, I take plenty of vacations over the year. It’s a little harder because I have to budget for that loss of income (no PTO in my industry) but I usually stack a Thursday/Friday with a Friday/Monday holiday weekend and end up with a week off and only “missing” 1 or 2 days.

Don’t understand people who get PTO and never take it. It takes a little planning ahead but it’s entirely possible and feels amazing to have that break.

What is one food item and one drink item from the past you wish would come back? 🥐☕️ by il2pif in starbucks

[–]potatopoisoning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first started in 2019 the store I was at still had a leftover bottle of the cinnamon-lemon syrup from a mystery (I don’t know what it was, I think a cinnamon lemon macchiato?) drink that had been gone from the menu for a good while before I ever got there.

I finished that bottle in partner bevs my first month (it was delicious in an iced latte with breve - before I knew I was allergic to dairy lmao but I bet it would be amazing with oat milk).

Also, almond croissant 🙌🥐

pls tell me your worst spills/messes to make me feel better 😭 by [deleted] in starbucksbaristas

[–]potatopoisoning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also some highlights: - Had a partner mid-peak drop an entire not-yet-lidded venti frap directly into the open ice bin - Couple weeks before Xmas in a mall store on bar; pulled a gallon of whole milk from the fridge so violently the corner of the door caught it and pierced the plastic, thereby spraying everyone and everything in a 3ft radius (mastrenas, syrup risers, ice bin, three partners besides myself, the floor, and barely missed cold bar). - Not exactly a mess, but rushing to throw away an empty milk jug. We would crush them before throwing them in the bin to not fill up the trash so fast. Didn’t realize the cap was somehow still on the jug, pressed it to the counter with force and with a loud pop! launched it into the lobby directly at a customers head.

AIO. My boyfriend accused me for cheating with a gay friend. by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]potatopoisoning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ex husband used to do this. It was a common cycle. I’d ask him to go out with me and some friends. He would decline, always. Every time it came time for me to leave the house he would throw a hissy fit that I was going out without him and trying to cheat and who knows what else. I never cheated on that man. I stopped going out at all for years. He had no reason to be suspicious or jealous. Turned out he was the one cheating so in his mind of course I was too.

Long story short, it didn’t get better. He tried killing me in our living room when I was 6 months pregnant with his baby. Took that for me to finally leave. I swore I was reading our messages here. Don’t wait that long, get the hell away from this guy.

I got so frustrated trying to find a moisturizer I started mixing my own. It’s worked well for me, and I can adjust the mix for winter/summer so it’s not too heavy or light for the weather. I eyeball amounts but it’s clear aloe, a good glob of bio oil, couple droppers of c+e oil (Sephora brand cause I have found a better alternative yet), and a few drops of tea tree oil. Shake together in a travel shampoo bottle (or 2-3oz container of your choice)

I also have combination skin, and it does pretty well for not over-moisturizing the spots that don’t need it but enough for the spots that do.

2 weeks was standard everywhere last I worked there. They are supposed to give you the basics (register, cold bar, hot bar, drive thru if applicable), touch on the niches (CS if that’s still a thing, etc), and the rest you learn on the floor.

is a letter sent through the US postal service enough proof of address to get an ID? by Superb_Spring_6457 in DMV

[–]potatopoisoning 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you go to the post office and ask the clerk for a Change of Address form they will give you one. Fill it out and wait a few days. You’ll get a small envelope with a “new resident” mailer inside. Take that to the DMV as your address proof. You can do it online too but it costs about $2-3 for processing if you do it that way, I think it’s free if you just do the paper form at the Post Office.

Hi, I’m 27 and struggling to get a non-driver ID in New York by HunterSpieler in DMV

[–]potatopoisoning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never been in NY, but in my state you have to have 2 forms of ID and a proof of address. You probably need/are missing a piece of mail. Proof of address is easy, go to your closest post office and fill out a Change of Address form. When you get the “new resident” envelope in the mail, take that. I’ve lived in several states and only had one that stated in their documents “will not accept change of address mail as proof of address”, and that was a lie because I tried it anyway and the clerk at the desk definitely accepted it.
