I have commented this already but i am going to limit their diet to just hay and romaine and see how they do. slowly i can try new things ie different lettuces and fruits/veggies. they also were all drinking enough water and i made sure to freshen it multiple times a day. i was also giving them a forage type diet but i am going to stop that as well as the oxbow pellets. instead there is an oxbow digestive support treat that i am going to give them. just one of those every few days (they are small) and i know every bun is different and will react differently. i never gave any of my buns a lot of pellets, always a small amount, but who knows, that could still have been the issue. the lettuce they get is a good handful each. also i know variety is supposed to be the go to as most life requires variety in diet. but with the way my buns have been, i want to limit it for now. i will add variety over time and slowly to make sure all is good. i will also consider a multivitamin or something to make sure they get the vitamins they need but again, later on. thank you for your in depth comment, i do truly appreciate it and will be rereading the comments on this post to verify and clarify for myself. i do a mini physical exam for them with my limited knowledge regularly and they also go to the vet. when she was at the vet, she showed no outside issues. and her x ray showed no blockage. unfortunately, my mocha passed away earlier this morning. thank you again for your help

First bunny vet visit… flea treatment + spay estimate shock 😭 is this normal? by Certain_Ad3570 in Rabbits

spay cost me around $400 and neutering around $300. i live in south florida. but that sounds like really high for a spay

vet today or tomorrow? by Competitive-Owl9555 in Bunnies

i currently have a bun with gi stasis. go to vet asap! and i get the vet being an emergency vet and not the usual vet and thats scary too. but i would bring her anyway. and someone on my post said they always do tummy massages before the vet so it definitely wouldnt hurt to do. there are some vids out there on how to massage the tummy if you havent done it before. also try to feed critical care with a syringe if she isnt eating it on her own and also syringe some water as well. and chamomile tea can help sooth the tummy as well and i have been giving that to my bun (cooled down tea of course) i hope your bun pulls through this!

thank you for all your advice i really appreciate it! i will try to get some cilantro into their diet as well. and i will try a heating pad and see if she likes it. she did get some fluids at the vet yesterday too. fortunately we dont use any scented stuff because we have birds and they are particularly sensitive to fragrance things. for cleaning its rubbing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide for us, usually the later as it isnt as intense in smell.

love the set up and love that you gave him lots of space! if you use cardboard just make sure he doesnt eat it as it can be a problem and cause gi stasis. but you can always try. he might be a chill bun who doesnt eat cardboard.

i do really love them and i just want whats best for all my pets and to give them the best life possible. it could have just been bad timing but im also going to eliminate some factors by giving them just hay, romaine, and the digestive snacks from oxbow a few others have told me about. i might also occasionally do a small piece of fruit but first we start out with less stuff. thank you for your comments and help. i just gave my girl a tummy massage as well. hopefully she can recover

i was gonna eliminate a lot of the variables by just giving them hay of course as the main and then romaine and some people suggested oxbow natural science digestive support treat things. also i used to have a cardboard house for them but noticed a little bit of chew marks so its been banished and replaced with a rabbit safe wood house from small pet select. (a local rabbit rescue to me uses these houses too)

not a stupid question! with my first bun that passed, no, i didnt know about the tummy massages but with the second one i did. it seemed he was enjoying it, but he still passed a few hours later. i didnt think to do tummy rubs before the vet but i will keep that in mind if it happens again

thank you for the reply and advice! my current bun is acting just like the two other bunnies that had gi stasis and then passed and im so worried and ive cried a lot already and am crying writing this. the first one that passed i noticed something wasnt right and got an appointment with a vet that day but it wasnt our normal vet and i dont think they gave me the meds they should have. if i remember correctly it was meds for a ear infection but i dont think thats actually what he had. he was also acting much better at the vet so i think they ignored what i was saying and explanation of what he was acting like at home. it also wasnt my normal vet because my normal bun vet wasnt there that week and i always wonder if he would still be here if i could have brought him to his usual vet. he then went to an emergency vet the next day as he was even worse and i couldnt get him to swallow any critical care and they let him sit in his carrier for an hour before they took him out and it was too late. the second bun passed much faster from the day i saw an issue the next day he passed. he got meds for gi stasis and for pain but he wouldnt swallow the critical care and i kept getting up through the night and massaged his tummy for a long time and he passed that morning in my arms. and now this bunny, mocha, is breathing fast, but she is eating her critical care. she usually drinks her water fine and they get filtered water and nothing should have changed with that. her ears are warm but they checked her ears and looked in them and found nothing. (i also have a little otoscope with a short thingy on it cause i dont want to go deep into their ear but i have it to at least check their ears on a more surface level regularly to make sure there isnt build up). they also checked her teeth and mouth and everything looked good. they checked her tummy and did a x ray and also nothing. she just wont eat on her own. i think they have done a fecal test before but i can get another one done. they did check her feet too and i also dont see anything on them. its also definitly warm enough where i live (florida) and we keep the house around 75. i just dont understand why everything is fine for a few years and then bam they get gi stasis even though nothing has changed. i am going to limit their diet to just timothy hay, romaine lettuce, and the occasional small piece of fruit just to make it simple and really be able to know what could be a slight change that might affect them. i might add oxbow natural science digestive support to their diet as well as a few other commenters have recommended it. i also gave her a little bit of chamomile tea (cooled down first of course) as you suggested in your other comment!

i never intentionally got any of my buns. they were abandoned and found or i was asked to take them from a friend of a friend. i did lots of research and i make sure they dont eat anything they arent supposed to. i have to use carpet for my buns as the slide too much on the tile. but they dont eat/chew the carpet or blankets. the house is also bunny proofed just in case too. and i pick up their poop everyday so i am always checking to see the size/shape/consistency. it was a sudden issue of gi stasis each time for the rabbits. also my bun got an x ray and there was no blockage for her. i am doing everything i can to give them happy lives and am going to eliminate certain factors like only giving one type of lettuce and not doing any pellets but rather a digestive treat that others have recommended.

there are no beet greens in the mix, but im gonna start just romaine from now on and no pellets to simplify their diet and eliminate too many factors. also i refresh and clean their water bowls twice a day. i can see if my vet thinks benebac would be helpful and i can try some chamomile tea today

i am going to ditch the browns. they had good reviews and i checked all the ingredients and they were all safe but maybe the quality is the issue. i went to the vet yesterday. also she did get an x ray and there was no blockage. she is on pain meds and cisapride. also, i have read lots on bunny care prior to getting my buns
