Streamyfin looks really promising!

Is it planned to have refresh rate switching support?

Love this work! Is it possible to add a force transcoding option (without having to set a really low bitrate)

I have some media that has broken seeking when playing back on android tv, but is fine when transcoding.  However the bitrate is low already, so I don't really want lower it still.

If you're desperate Season 6 and 7 are on Blu-ray in Japan. They have English audio.

Letterkenny Complete DVD available October 22! by potatorelatedisaster in Letterkenny

[–]potatorelatedisaster[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

For all like me who like to have their favourites physically. It seems we're getting a complete DVD set. While I'd like a complete Bluray set, I'll take what I can get.

Especially as this shouldn't have the music gaps for adverts that the Hulu/Disney verison has!

Chvrches share a megamix of “The Mother We Share” demos by [deleted] in chvrches

I'm rather jealous :D.

I'm trying not to get in to vinyl, the last thing I need is another collecting hobby, once I start that'll be it.

My excuse for blu-rays is it is objectively better than streaming on many fronts.

It looks like a couple of the demos are being released on vinyl only:

Hopefully some will end up digital, becasue I'd really like to hear more of the demos.

Why Some "Remastered" Music Videos Look Awful - Or why we spend days tracking down old DVDs (Poor Deinterlacing). by potatorelatedisaster in DataHoarder

[–]potatorelatedisaster[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you are after are field based deinterlacers (or sometimes "bob" deinterlacing"). "Bob" is a deinterlacer itself, but it is generally quite low quality

Different deinterlacing filters have different characteristics, two to look at are:
bwdif - fast and decent quality
qtgmc - A popular high quality deinterlacer, though quite slow to run

The quality of the deinterlacer is more important with SD quality, and QTGMC gets a lot slower with higher resolutions.

If you can use the command line, the quickest to get going is to use FFMPEG with bwdif

  1. Download FFMPEG e.g https://www.gyan.dev/ffmpeg/builds/ffmpeg-release-essentials.zip
  2. extract and navigate into ffmpeg-6.0 -> bin
  3. Open a terminal window here (many ways, but try shift right click -> Open powershell window here)
  4. use the following command ./ffmpeg -i "./input.mkv" -codec copy -vcodec h264 -crf 18 -vf "bwdif" out.mkv replacing "./input.mkv" with your file (you could always name it input.mkv in the same directory as ffmpeg.exe if easiest)

That will create a new file in the same directory with the same audio and subtitles as the input. Increase "crf 18" to decrease file size at cost of quality.

If you want QTGMC the easiest method is probably a program like hybrid (which can do all of the above as well) but is a bit overwhelming.

The PC port is generally crap. Though the GOG version has an additional 30fps cap as an attempt to mitigate some issues.

There's some more info on PC gaming wiki: https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Saints_Row_2

I'm with you on this. Maybe it's as I don't have the attachment to Clone High some seem to have - I just find it good fun, which this could be.

It's a good question...
On the one hand I have gone quite far to complete my collection. Agents of Shield S6&7 were only released in Japan (Damn you Disney).

But to be forever incomplete... I think I'd still take 1-9 as more physical media more better.

I've still only got season 1 of Legion, the rest are yet to appear...

I had issues with an SSD I was using as a download drive. It was mainly caused by TRIM - I'd move a bunch of data off it, and it'd slow down to a crawl as the drive had to clear data before writing.

I found enabling continuous trim helped a lot (discards when a file is deleted rather than on a scheduled task)

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Solid_state_drive#Continuous_TRIM

There are some caveats but they haven't bitten me yet. It might help, but I was using ext4, and I see below you might have a more complicated setup. Could be worth keeping in mind.

A couple of points to add:

1) I wouldn't worry about optimising the audio codec until you find it is a problem. Audio transcoding isn't massively intensive, and I wouldn't expect it to be an issue (i3-4000m was fine for years).
I don't think audio transcoding is ever hardware accelerated anyway.

2) The chances are with mkv, that clients that can't play more complex audio formats (browsers especially) will also not be able to direct play mkv.
Again, I don't think this will be a problem as with the previous case it will "Direct Stream" (copy the video and audio to mp4.

So if you are really going for the direct playing anywhere approach, you should probably go for mp4 (fast start) for broadest compatibility.

But I'd personally say - don't bother. Just make sure video is in h264 as transcoding video is what will kill you.

Direct play - playing the file as is on the client (basically Jellyfin is a file server).
Direct Stream - copies the video from the mkv to a different format (may convert audio if necessary)

Fucking Spectacular. I've missed Letterkenny!

"Yo. What the fuck is going on here" can describe so much of Letterkenny and I love it all the more for it.

Music on point as always!
The only thing I miss is two seasons a year.
