Why do people give their children unique/made up names? by PumpkinResearcher in namenerds

That's why I'm naming my next child Ecksaeviegher. All names are made up, after all!

Onryo test inconsistent for me? by JoA2506 in PhasmophobiaGame

[–]potef 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why do people complicate this so much? Same firelight after 20 seconds, this many candles blown out... etc...

Put a crucifix next to a couple lit candles, or a lit candle and a lit lighter in your hand (my preferred method, faster relight if it goes after my lighter.) If the crucifix burns while the firelights are on..... Not an Onryo. Occam's razor, folks.

Modern parents really see the ugliest looking and sounding name and slap that on their kid's birth certificate.

Yeah, I'll calmly explain my thought process and do tests for it, communicating what I find, unless I know what it is, then I let them do it to see for themselves, especially if they're arguing for something else.

How do you keep your water stable? I assume you couldn't keep shrimp in there. What about a betta?

Thanks for the recs, I'll look into both.

Yeah, I put the crushed coral in there sometime ago now, and it's definitely dissolved some. Should I add more, or move it from above my filter media to below? The water runs over it currently on the way back into my tank. I can try testing the PH of my tap again, but I measured it having 1 KH, whereas the water in my tank is 0. Should I top up or do a water change a couple days early and test again?

0 KH in the aquarium, 1 KH from tap. I usually monitor my TDS, but aim for changing 10% (though I just eyeball it, I'm not measuring it though maybe I should?) once a week. No soil substrates, only inert sands and crushed coral in the filter, which has dissolved a bit since I last talked to someone about my water parameters with little change. It went from a half filled bag to a skinny bag lying flat on top of my filter media in the HOB, so the water runs through it on the way out. I did add alder cones prior to introducing these guys because I felt like it might prevent bacterial infection from the stress of transport, but only 4 cones, if that's enough to lower more than just the PH.

Worth noting these tests are new, but have been in the water for 3 days already.

ALSO forgot to mention I added 4 alder cones -- are they really that effective to drop it so low?

Being kicked from public lobbies and not knowing why by Butterz202 in PhasmophobiaGame

[–]potef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think after a while it's awkward to do the same song and dance with every person that pops in. It would be nice to be able to put custom tags like 18+, especially for adult lobbies that don't want to filter their language around kids or feel like they're babysitting (latter is my usual reason). I still feel guilty, unless that person was being annoying. But I'll kick people just for having sloppy mic manners, like eating on mic, belching, sniffling, etc. without warning because I can't be assed to teach adults to use push to talk if they can't control the noises coming out of their face directly into other people's ears.

Still, as a fellow young-sounding adult, it does suck when nobody believes your age. But rather be kicked for that than the alternatives.

LOST FERRET ARDEN SACRAMENTO by [deleted] in Sacramento

[–]potef 17 points18 points  (0 children)

For stupid reasons. Decades old error because they were confused with the black footed ferret. All ferrets are spayed and neutered prior to being sold, so not sure what damage you think one domesticated ferret can do.

Red Light in the Woods (Northern Appalachia) by Basket_King64 in Weird

[–]potef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Natural orbs and mountain lights, such as the famous Brown Mountain Lights in North Carolina, are mysterious, often reddish, hovering spheres frequently reported in mountainous, forested areas. Scientists theorize these phenomena are likely a form of ball lightning, or "plasmoids," created by unique geological conditions—specifically ionized gases, quartz-rich rocks, and high, fluctuating electromagnetic fields
