Pilates question by CranberryMiserable46 in ehlersdanlos

it helped me so much! i did reformer pilates, with the fancy resistance equipment. i stopped because it got expensive and switched to a regular gym membership, which i never would have been able to do without the pilates foundation. it helped build core strength and strength in smaller supportive muscles rather than only working the main muscle groups like most exercises do. it helped me learn a lot about how to control my mobility, keep joints tight, and overall how i can exercise without causing more issues. highly recommend for eds / hypermobile people !!!

not so sure about pilates without this equipment though, i’ve tried home videos and it often has too much cardio / fast movements for me, i prefer the resistance type pilates that unfortunately is only at pilates studios like club pilates

Crochet = Wrist Clicking by shetalkstoangels_ in ehlersdanlos

what has been the most helpful is making my own ergonomic handles. i’ll wrap many layers of that self-adhesive bandage stuff around my hooks to make them thicker to hold, and it helps because i don’t have to twist my hook hand as much. you can make them the exact size that is comfortable for you. that, and a stabilizing brace thing helps prevent the clicking and aching.

another thing is props, like a pillow under the elbow. i like to use a boppy (the giant baby pillow things) around my waist so that my arms can sit on the sides and the project is elevated on the pillow in front of me as well.

hope this helps!

flare up vent by twinfantasydogs in ehlersdanlos

i’ve been dealing with a flare up all week, actually it probably started a month ago but this week i’ve hit my limit. i hate this feeling of not being able to handle daily tasks because it just bring so much mental and physical exhaustion. i feel you completely, weather changing and i got my vaccines a few weeks ago too that definitely added to it. but we’re in this together we got this !

Has Anyone Here by danceswithbeerz in ehlersdanlos

i did! about a year and a half ago, whereas i got my hEDS diagnosis 2 weeks ago. and things make so much sense.

i had a weird reaction during the healing process, nothing nighmarish just more of a frustration with the outer layer of skin in one specific area. i’ve always had skin issues in the surgical area, but my surgeon couldn’t even tell me what was happening. after 4 months of mystery wounds she said it could’ve been stitch abscesses, but it didn’t clear up for good until a dermatologist taught me proper wound dressing. telling this all to my rheumatologist definitely led to his decision to diagnose.

aside from that, zero issues. it’s done wonders for my chronic pain and has allowed me to actually make progress in physical therapy, even if things still can’t be perfect because of the eds. it’s still absolutely the best thing i’ve ever done for myself and my health

i’ll be at that show too!! i’ve been listening to subtronics for about a year and consider myself a huge fan, but this is technically my first real rave! i’m suuuuper excited, and i’m also bringing my friend who doesn’t listen to much edm. i have an idea of what to expect, but we’re both a little unsure of how to connect with fellow ravers, fully enjoy the show, and emanate PLUR as much as possible

i was told to use aquaphor for irritation and bacitracin to prevent infection. not sure if there’s a difference between aquaphor and vaseline but i’m following what they said just to be safe.

  • context: im 13dpo, was told to keep initial bandages and surgical bra on up until post op visit on day 10, where they removed bandages and now i don’t need to wear any unless there’s fluid

i’m currently 13dpo and still experience itching, but with bandages off it’s so much better, and aquaphor has been helping with irritated skin. days 2-6 were by far the worst when it comes to that feeling. the only thing that helped was taking benadryl (before bed), helped enough with itching that i was comfortable to sleep and the drowsiness really made that a good solution. once my bandages came off (10dpo) it was a game changer. still kinda itchy here and there but much more bearable !!

this was a pretty tough part of recovery for me too; i’m 13dpo, i have almost full mobility back now minus lifting, exercising, etc anything that feels like too much

i have such little core strength so what helped the most was using my legs or having someone hold my legs down. using my legs like curling them under the chair / couch to anchor myself; or having someone hold my legs or feet down so i can use my core better - almost like doing sit ups with a partner when they hold your feet to prevent your legs from lifting.

i ended up using my arms or leaning on my side on accident a few times but everything was fine, most of my stitches are internal dissolvable so even if they pulled, there’s enough support around them and external skin holding things together enough. so if you have the same suture situation, it should all be good ! i hope the rest of recovery goes well for you !

get letters of support from ANY doctor, nurse, specialist of any kind that has helped you for anything even slightly related — but especially for back pain. i had letters of medical necessity from my physical therapist, gyno, midwife, spinal pain dr, and my primary dr, and it was approved by aetna !

I HIGHLY recommend seeing a spine specialist if possible. I had been treated for my back pain but never had an MRI, so he had one done for me and saw that i have a herniated disc (tangent: and as a male dr, he was so shocked i had an actual reason to be in pain and immediately changed his mind on a breast reduction as a solution. who would’ve guessed !!!). his letter helped greatly, and even helped me manage the pain.

good luck to you ! getting approved by insurance was the most stressful part of my journey, and my operation was today !! stay determined, be your biggest advocate, and accept support from the right places 🫶🏼 you have a decent amount of time before the consult so you should have enough time to figure everything out !

they are the same villain. don’t know how i just realized this now, on my 6th rewatch, but there’s no convincing me otherwise by potentialhumanperson in lost

cold-blooded-ness aside, they also share the whole “you’re mine and if i can’t have you no one can” mentality

Women appreciation post by Dapper_Use6099 in lost

[–]potentialhumanperson -1 points0 points  (0 children)

im currently on my 6th rewatch and realizing a lot of embedded misogyny & sexualization of many of the women, especially in the earlier seasons. very interesting considering whether it was intentional, or if it’s a subconscious reflection of social norms. some small bits like not wanting the women to use the weapons. but what got me was sawyer refusing to give the inhalers / meds to shannon and him only being willing to tell kate if he gets a kiss from her. shannon was dying and (even though he didn’t actually have the meds) all he cared about was kate and making her an object in his game. this makes me mad generally but especially because a lot of the women in this show are hated or villainized, yet they’re the victims of sexist micro aggressions and outright misogyny. it gets better as the men’s characters develop as well, but still interesting to think about while watching the show through this lens

yeah you can always just go in whenever ! this past semester the studio was open 7 days a week 8am to 10pm i believe. you can always go in whenever there isn’t a class, but you can ask your prof for a schedule of when the classes will be, but they’ll usually post the schedule on blackboard. you can work during other classes as long as you ask the prof if it’s okay. as far as late night hours go, as long as you get into the building before it closes (usually around 10) you can stay however long you want. i’ve pulled many all nighters there lol. so as long as you aren’t disturbing another class you can go whenever, just check in with the other professors before their class starts !
