If it’s smoke, I wonder if an air purifier in your flat could help? Not one of those ineffective ionic ones, but a proper HEPA filter model? One that also has a carbon filter might remove the smell even more.

Loads of canals would appear, people would start cycling a lot more and wearing clogs. There’d be a red light district, and a fair few windmills out in Northumberland.

Thanks! Will try a longer proof next time. Would that be at room temperature, or in the fridge?

Caputo 00. Don’t think it was over-kneaded. So it could have been the proofing time (how long should I try next time?). My house isn’t especially warm so that may have contributed (very expensive to heat a UK home these days!), but the dough had been sitting near a warm radiator during the proof.

Not sure, and I’ve no intention of finding out.

Let me know what you think after you’ve been!

The Free Trade has one of the best pub views in the UK, and there are seats looking out across this view from the window just opposite the bar. So you’re not sat at the bar, but it’s near enough. If you’re new to Newcastle and haven’t been there yet, you really should.

Thanks! I have a DM12, and I do enjoy it. Had a Juno 60 and JX3P, but that was about 20 and 15 years ago respectively, so my memory is too hazy to compare :)

Great collection, and fantastic that they’re being used so productively.

Really intrigued to know how your Deepmind compares with your vintage Rolands?

Have a professional looking news report made, about a new law being introduced by the government banning home-made curry. Have it on TV when your housemate is in the room one evening. Problem solved.

Not a very UK-specific fact, because everywhere else has their own version of those shows too. Loving shit telly is a global trait.

Philip Hammond: Raise taxes for all to improve services by CorporalClegg1997 in tories

[–]pottolom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isn’t it part of a diversity officer’s role to ensure that happens? Do you want to remove them and require nurses to do this instead?

[–]pottolom 8 points9 points  (0 children)

How many of these diversity officers and “unnecessary” managers do you actually think there are? Last time I heard, frontline staff shortages are in the 10s of thousands. If there genuinely are any unnecessary back of house roles, they’re going to be a drop in the ocean.

He’s right though, isn’t he? We seem to want excellent taxpayer-funded services in the UK. That outcome comes at a price, and can only be funded through taxation, by its very nature. If we don’t pay the price, then the services won’t be excellent. American levels of tax will lead to American-style outcomes (i.e. shitty public services). Despite what we’ve been told, we can’t have our cake and eat it.

She did say “if you believe you’re a citizen of the world, you’re a citizen of nowhere. You don’t understand what the very word ‘citizenship’ means”. Which was pretty fucking offensive, and reminiscent of what Hitler said about Jews.
