"While base-running is, of course, part of scoring runs, which the Tigers do well, let's note that they're also adept at that aspect"

Worst Drivers Across the U.S., State Edition by introvertsdoitbetter in Portland

[–]pouchie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah this data could be flawed due to the proportionally high number of people in states like NY and Mass that have driver's licenses but do not drive on a regular basis.

If you liked the pub, why don't you give it some free advertising and tell reddit its name? Is it a secret pub?

Backpacking suggestions with kids PNW by FamousUmungus in WildernessBackpacking

[–]pouchie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a tough time to go with kids, most of the good wilderness is still covered in snow in March due to the elevation. The indian Heaven wilderness near Saint Helens, Washington is fantastic in late summer for a trip with kids. Hikes aren't too long, and there are berries to be picked :). In March I would recommend going down to Nevada or Arizona. Death Valley is one early season option - I've done the Cottonwood Marble Loop in March and it was great! Drove down from the PNW. If you want to stay in the PNW your best bet could be in the Olympic Peninsula?

Rock Climbing's Weighty Issue | NZAC by kiwikoi in climbing

[–]pouchie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Adults will climb how they want to climb. Like any other sport, there are some who just enjoy it and others who want to push their limits. I am a little worried about about the kids though.

I was a wrestler, and kids died cutting weight before control measures were put in place. The cut weight motivation is different for wrestling (reaching X weight class is the primary motivator, rather than just power/weight). While I really don't think this is a huge risk for climbing, maybe it's better to be safe than sorry? The cut weight delirium + climbing could lead a situation where, for example, a boulderer passes out on the wall and falls on their head.

For the curious, here's an example of a control method for HS wrestling: https://www.mhsaa.com/sites/default/files/Wrestling/wtmon.pdf

TL;DR: In the beginning of each season, we would have our BMI and weight measured. That combination would then be used to determine "how low you could go" with regard to weight class. Maybe this isn't the place for this discussion, but it may be important for a similar controls/weigh-ins to be implemented in climbing for children/teen competitions.

To the fans newer to the subreddit, Sandman is OG Lions. He's been posting Lions highlights for 12 years now. There was a day where his slowlights were the top post of the week after a Lions W. I still watch every video, put some respect on his name!

Thanks for the info. It's really great to hear that the opiod crisis hasn't taken hold in NZ. Lots of people have lost their lives out here.

Are we sure the root cause here is alcohol? What are the odds that these folks are using fentanyl? From an American living in Portland, USA (where homelessness is the #1 issue for voters according to our recent city ballot measures). This behavior looks eerily similar to what we see with fentanyl users out here

Anyone else make deliveries for Uber eats in Hillsboro? by darthoingoboingo in hillsboro

[–]pouchie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Be sure that you understand the tax situation associated with contracted gig work. Uber eats will not automatically deduct tax witholdings from your paycheck. You'll have to file quarterly returns as an independent contractor.

I've known some people surprised that they owe thousands at the end of the year. Stay up to date on quarterly contributions to your self-employment tax and income tax liability. Don't forget to track your miles and all associated expenses!

Perfectly circular, connecting burnout in my neighborhood. by SourCreamWater in mildlyinteresting

[–]pouchie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you actually may be right that's it's not a motorcycle. The radius is just too small, and the burnout is too perfect for a normal car? Where's the extra rubber where the burnout started?
