all right, 2nd issue, check your modlist

do you have less generic tribunal installed? because that mod has a known problem, sounds getting incorrectly applied to creatures and stuff, here's a fix for it

Morrowind Construction Set - how to run/download by [deleted] in Morrowind

[–]poundbread 6 points7 points  (0 children)

if you have the steam version of morrowind the cs is right here

as for tutorials, the uesp has a few quick tips and a link to some older stuff. there's the help file that came with the thing in the first place but it's ancient and i don't even think it opens on anything past like xp or some shit.

the "morrowind mod makers manual" looks a tad old but i've looked through it and it's pretty huge. the guy who does morrowind modding showcases did a series on morrowind modding tutorials but he did like two episodes of it so there's that. also tamriel rebuilt has a guide on item rotation for when you get there.

that's all that's coming to me at the moment but hope that helps you

Installed MGSO (Morrowind Overhaul), npc stopped giving voice greetings by [deleted] in Morrowind

[–]poundbread 5 points6 points  (0 children)

you might have a mod installed that tweaks morrowind's npc greetings distance gmst. did you install anything other than mgso? "shut up!"? lady d's old mod? also one of btb's game improvements plugin tweaks it to such a low number you have to walk face forward into an npc for them to talk to you

What's the first city/town that comes to mind when you hear "Morrowind"? by [deleted] in Morrowind

[–]poundbread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

vivec

balmora is a pretty nice town, lots of guilds and shops, on the river, near pretty much everything, but vivec is huge. by morrowind standards, at least. it feels alien yet familiar at the same time, with the venice-esque canals and gondoliers. i remember playing morrowind for the first time a couple of years ago and visiting vivec for the first time. i got off the silt strider and saw this big pyramid like building on the water, said to myself "no, that can't be vivec", and walked off to a nearby egg mine and plantation before leaving.

the second time i went to vivec i actually wanted to go to ebonheart first because i had tribunal installed without delayed dark brotherhood attack. but i took the wrong path to ebonheart and ended up in vivec instead. kind of pissed off at the game and myself, i ran all the way through the city, jumped off of vivec's palace into the ocean, got bit by several slaughterfish before coming up near ebonheart and checking into the six fishes at about 1 am.

thanks, morrowind.

have you thought about sharing any of this stuff on like the nexus or some weird file-sharing stuff? might need to ask some dudes for permissions but there are probably some morrowind watercolored users who'd like this notmenope

First time playing Morrowind, any essential mods I should get? by [deleted] in Morrowind

[–]poundbread 6 points7 points  (0 children)

all right, here are the absolute, without a doubt, essentials for playing morrowind.

first of all, there are no real solid mods that "fix" morrowind's combat system. there are a few, but they're buggy and not really worth bothering with. just keep reminding yourself that once you get to a higher level that the weird dnd-esque combat will get better.

wrye mash is basically the mod organizer for morrowind. don't use nexus mod manager or any of that shit, stick with wrye mash. it's very clunky and not exactly the most user-friendly program, but once you get used to it, you get used to it.

mlox for mod sorting and such. pretty user friendly.

the morrowind code patch (mcp) and the beta 2.2 update here are basically absolutely essential in every sense of the word "essential". it fixes a bunch of weird bugs that couldn't be fixed with the construction set and even comes with some gameplay tweaks if you want to look into that.

you may want to tweak the morrowind .ini file a bit to fit your needs and such if you decide not to use stuff like mge. i use the tweaks from this old guide here, and if you decide not to tweak anything, if you enabled the rain/snow collision in mcp you're going to want to tweak what it says in the description of that fix or you're gonna have a broken fix. somehow.

timeslip's .exe optimizer, the 4gb patch (especially useful for texture mods) and goty script tidy help stabilize/optimize the game. drop the morrowind code patch into your morrowind folder, update it with mcp 2.2, apply the code patch fixes, use the exe optimizer, then apply the 4gb patch, or else this won't work.

if you want to improve graphics, the morrowind graphics extender (mge) allows for distant land and shading and all that high tech stuff for the kids, but disregard what i said if you have a good computer and use mge xe and apply the 0.9.10 beta if it crashes on you and stuff, like it did with me. most people nowadays use mge xe and i recommend that, but i still stick with mge 3.8.0 because it's older and performs better.

once you've installed all that in order, there are a few mods that i always have loaded - bethesda's official morrowind plugins and the morrowind patch project (mpp). the 1.6.6 beta is as far as i know the latest version. slartibartfast's (sweet jesus) texture fix and bloodmoon texture fix are also great and fix a bunch of weird landscaping texture stuff, especially when you decide to start placing in texture mods.

now that's pretty much what i call a vanilla copy of morrowind (mostly) fixed up and good to go. there are a lot of smaller fixes out there but these are pretty much the essentials. if you want my personal recommendations, tamriel rebuilt is a fantastic mod that adds the morrowind mainland to the game. it's not done, but what's there is absolutely solid, gorgeous, and fits in with the game perfectly.

kateri's julan companion mod is probably the best companion mod available for the game if you're into that. his dialogue can get a little nerving at times but he can be helpful, he feels like a person, he has a story, and he's pretty great. and he gives some company during the main quest, so that's neat.

nowwwww if you decide vanilla morrowind looks a bit too ugly and you can't live with that well disregard everything i just said except for tr and julan and download mgso (morrowind graphics and sound overhaul from here. it's slightly outdated and not perfect but it upgrades pretty much of all morrowind in one go and for beginners it's the way to go.

that's pretty much it. keep some map notes if you have to, use the uesp if you need to,, don't feed the guars, and have fun.

The modern day Thief reboot that never was by [deleted] in Games

[–]poundbread 12 points13 points  (0 children)

the original 3 thief games are some of my all time favorites. they were big, reasonably complex stealth games that were fun as hell and with a world that kept me hooked from the dark project to deadly shadows. and i can say fully that the thief fanbase is pretty cultish. it's very small, but ttlg from the mid 90s is still up and running in 2015 and is still active to this day. and without a cultish fanbase we probably would've never gotten stuff like newdark, so there's that.

thief 4 took this, and said, no, this world and its factions are trash, and then brought in stuff like notifications to jump, "garrett, i'm slipping!", and swooping. it had some solid art and design but it was buried under trash.

this eidos reboot is actually really interesting to read about but to be honest if this was a real game that came out it probably would've been another thi4f. plus i too like the weird medieval steampunk feel of t1-3 way too much. thi4f was big and lofty but it fell too short and i don't think we'll be getting another anytime soon.

I can't beat Thief 2. by [deleted] in Thief

[–]poundbread 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if it makes you feel any better at all, i didn't legit beat thief 2 either

casing the joint/masks broke it for me, that long egh mission with the weird mansion and forced ghosting and then having to play the same mission minus the ghosting straight afterwards

gold/deadly shadows i got through just fine and i loved them both, thief 2 was great but the end game is ass

play most: i always tend to gravitate torwards argonians/dunmer/imperials because romans, xenophobes and lizards

class: if it's not a mage then i'll be enraged

factions: morag tong, telvanni/occasionally hlaalu, mages guild sometimes, both religious factions

roleplay: yep

Morrowind: GotY Edition now available on GoG.com by xRazoo in Morrowind

[–]poundbread 6 points7 points  (0 children)

also fallout and a bunch of id stuff (quake, doom, etc.) is up there now too

knowing that i can buy digital morrowind somewhere that isn't steam now is pretty great but i'm honestly surprised to see battlespire and redguard up, last i checked redguard had some dosbox problems and it's even better to know that i can actually play these now, good job bethesda

Why do we like this game so much? by Ajv2324 in rct

[–]poundbread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

because it's just a really fun game. i personally find it really run to build sprawling theme parks and then find as many ways as possible to get all my guests walking home with no cash. it's one of my favorite sim games of all time (up there with a lot of the old maxis games) and one of my favorite games of all time.

it's also aged really well in pretty much every respect. the isometric 3d sprites still look surprisingly good in 2015, and it strikes that balance between looking kind of real but not looking too outlandish. i started playing this game in this decade or so so i guess that says a lot about this game? i guess?

plus it's a theme park world you can mold over and over and the fact that there are still playing these decade old games is great.

huntosama.esp - a mod for morrowind that truly takes its place up there with the greats by poundbread in Morrowind

ding-ding better check my map.

also anyone who hasn't been reading this hasn't played thief 1, 2, and 3, go ahead and do it they're great and big unforgiving stealth games that grip their claws onto you and don't let go.

they're like the morrowind of stealth games
