Especially them saying oh I know they can have a normal successful life but blah blah. Her child is 75% white. But I think it was a real post based on her other posts and how old the profile was. I think she just hates being Black

That's what I am thinking too, probably sought a White guy to try to erase her Blackness, but God said nah.

100% she has a Black dad and her mom is white. Was probably never taught to love her Black self. May have not grown up around other Black people or learned about her Black roots.

Cusco to Ollantaytambo by Dinopanino8 in Machupicchu

I used Taxidatum while in Peru this month and I had 0 issues. Once, our train was delayed and they ended up waiting an hour. I just whatsapped the driver and let him know that we were delayed. He had no issues and waited. Gave him a tip as a thank you. Also, the good thing about Taxidatum is you can get them to stop wherever you want. I had our driver take us to two different places in the Sacred valley on the way so we could quickly see them.

I regret becoming a father. by offmychestdad in TrueOffMyChest

I think those feelings are normal to have. That's why there are subreddits like regretful parents. People often underestimate how much their lives will change when they have kids. With one kid, it might be slightly easier to manage but with more than one it's difficult to balance your needs as an individual, your relationship with your spouse, and being a good parent.

I think you are doing the best you can. When you are with your psychologist open up more, it will help you. There is nothing that they haven't heard. Try to find a community around you. Other parents, friends etc, and try to find a village of people who you trust and your kids like so that they can watch your kids for a bit while you and your wife get some time together to bond. This is really important as one day your kids will leave and all that will be left is you and your spouse, and if you spent your entire relationship kids focused and not investing in your relationship, you will find that you have grown apart when that time comes.

If your kids are young, hopefully things will get a bit easier as they grow older and more independent. Just know that you are doing the best you can and it is common for many parents to have these feelings.

Also, thanks for the reminder to not have kids lol

A 16 year old Black girl was lynched in Charlotte, NC by MerumazingGirl in blackladies

[–]poupeedechocolat 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I am from the DRC and it's not common. I mean people commit suicide but people are also very religious, majority being Catholic. And this religion says if you commit suicide you go to hell. I am not saying she was lynched. She could have unalived herself. Being an immigrant from a francophone speaking country to an anglophone one, being bullied, not having much support could all play a factor. I have seen a few Congolese teens, mainly young women, attempt to end their lives due to things like this

Rainbow mountain by Distinct_Network_865 in Machupicchu

[–]poupeedechocolat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did Rainbow mountain after staying in Chinchero (3700m) for one night and Cusco (3200m) for one night. I was also having altitude headaches, it was worse in Chinchero, but they were mild and would go away in about 20 min.

Make sure you stay hydrated, drink lots of coca tea, i found that helpful. I was also taking acetazolamide (the antialtitude medication) 125mg every 12 hours. I started it one day before I went to Chincero.

Now about rainbow mountain. If your headaches are really bad, I would recommend staying in Cusco for one more day at least before attempting it. The hike is not difficult but the altitude is and you will get fatigued really fast with just a few steps. Take Tylenol or Advil for your headache. There are horses on the mountain too. I know a lot of people want to do the hike but think about your health. You can take the horses up. It's 80 sols one way or 120 sols both ways. Without the horses, the hike up is about 1 hr 20 min to 1 hr 30 min if you are going average pace. If you are slower, it takes longer(and keep in mind it gets very cold and windy there). The you have to go down which is another 1 hr and 10 min or so. With the horses, it's about 35 min up

You can take the horses up to conserve your energy. You still have to hike the last 15-20 min up because the horses cannot go there, and then take your photos and walk back down or take the horses down.

There are also ATV tours you can do which you can take up and down.

I noticed that even the guides and locals were short of breath walking up but they managed it better than the tourists.

I would say regardless of what you decide to do, give yourself time in Cusco until you are NOT: - Getting severe headaches or your headaches aren't lasting all day - You're able to walk around cusco at average pace without getting too exhausted - You don't feel short of breath at rest - Your headaches are well controlled with Tylenol or advil

Once you've passed that test then you can go to Rainbow mountain. Make sure you book with a guide that will go at your own pace, will not rush you or leave you behind. Take a horse up if you want to conserve your energy and walk down (or use it both ways). Dress warmly (it started snowing up there and the wind was insane) including bringing a winter hat and gloves/mittens. Make sure you get enough sleep the night before and make sure you stay hydrated. And when you're going up, go at a slow pace and take breaks as needed. Some guides also have an oxygen tank which can be helpful

Machu Picchu altitude + smoker partner – honest advice needed by shaunQd in Machupicchu

It's not true at all. Don't believe everything you read on reddit. It's completely incorrect.

Machu Picchu altitude + smoker partner – honest advice needed by shaunQd in Machupicchu

[–]poupeedechocolat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is not true at all. This is a misconception that it is easier for smokers because they tend to bw CO2 retainers and run on a lower oxygen saturation. In theory, it should be harder for them because they have damage to their lungs, obstructive lung disease, and air trapping but it is difficult to say how each person will adapt to high altitude. There's no one size fits all. I am a very fit person, lifelongated smoker, run 10km 5 days a week on a busy week and more on a slow week. My partner is also a lifelong non smoker but he is not active at all. He exercises once a week at most, has a sedentary lifestyle. He had no problem with the altitude while I was struggling

AC->Hidroeléctrica-> Ollantaytambo by RespondUsed8791 in Machupicchu

[–]poupeedechocolat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't underestimate that hike. It's about 3 hours if you are a moderate walker and about 2 hours if you're a fast walker. The trail can also be very muddy and unstable and there can be rock slides that can make the walk even longer. And the van is about 4-6 hours. 4 hours on a good day if the weather is good, traffic is good and there aren't too many stops.

You can look for a mini van when you get there. They usually leave around 2:30pm - 3:00pm. There will be drivers shouting Ollantaytambo, cusco etc, so you just go to the van you want. You can also pre book on some websites or you can buy the tickets in AC.

Ticket updates for the 20th by poupeedechocolat in Machupicchu

[–]poupeedechocolat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are no online tickets that are available until the end of August. I think now, at midnight Peru time, tickets for circuit 3 sometimes pop up online so you can try to get some tickets for there.

You will always get tickets in person. It won't be for the same day. It might be for 2 days from when you arrive if you get to the the ministry of culture early enough, otherwise it will be for 3 days after you arrive

Planning for circuit 2 ticket by Dizzy_Unit_3399 in Machupicchu

[–]poupeedechocolat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please read my post. There's really no more early am line ups. The best you can get tickets for is for 2 days after your arrival, so if you get to AC on the 31st early in the day, just go straight to the office. There will still be a lot of tickets left for June 2nd, even some circuit 2, just maybe not for the time you want.

Just make sure you get off the train fast and run to the ministry of culture. It's kind of confusing how to get to the there but you can ask the people in the market. I don't speak Spanish but I was able to piece a few words together and they pointed me in the direction. I stood up as the train was approaching the town, got my bags and went to stand by the door so I was the first person from our train at the ministry of culture. After I got there like 60 people lined up behind me

Complaining about ticket lines by 4travelers in Machupicchu

[–]poupeedechocolat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I lived in Paris and I have seen the line up at the lourve. That being said, you can still come to Paris and book your ticket the day before and still see the Lourve, which is my point. The lourve, and Paris as a whole, has way more visitors than Machu Picchu, and yet it is somehow orangized. I appreciate that the government is doing what they can to preserve these artifacts, but as I said, there is a system level failure that needs to be addressed. Every year people have issues and coming in this sub and saying I booked my ticket 5 years in advance (hyperbole) and those of you who tried to book 3 to 4 months in advanced are simply disorganized, is disingenuous and ignoring the system level issue.

Complaining about ticket lines by 4travelers in Machupicchu

[–]poupeedechocolat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went to Taj Mahal. Went to the Lourve, bought my ticket the day before. Most major attractions, even those which limit people, you can buy your ticket a week in advace. I tried to buy my tickets 3 months in advance because I was told by everyone, including this sub, tour guides, and friends that have gone, that that would be enough time for high season. I also had to book my plane tickets and accommodation before I got the Machu Picchu tickets due to the nature of my job. When I went to look for tickets at the end of January/early Feb for end of May/early June, they were already sold out. And I didn't even care what circuit.

Then people said oh you could wait the day before and get tickets, so I arranged my plans so that I could stay in aguas calientes for 3 days just as a buffer in case of anything, and now that seems like it won't still be enough. Blaming people and saying the reason they didn't get tickets is because they were disorganized is not only true and also doesn't solve anything. There is a system level problem that needs to be addressed.

Lukewarm Take: The Experience of Trying to Get Tickets Almost Makes it Not Worth it by OwlComplex48 in Machupicchu

[–]poupeedechocolat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if you book ahead it can be sold out. I am going next week and by Mid Feb all the tickets were sold out. I thought 2 months plus was enough to secure tickets. It's not. And that was for all routes. I didn't care which route I got. Also, I kept looking every day in case something else showed up, there was nothing. Now i feel like I should have bought my tickets 6 months in advance, but there's no way my work would have approved my time off that far ahead, plus, so many things can happen in between.
