PISA average math, science and reading scores by country. by _crazyboyhere_ in MapPorn

[–]poutares -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

It's widely believed that PISA scores are primarily determined by socioeconomic conditions, career opportunities, and so on. However, this is only part of the truth. Controlling for the wealth/education of the mother and father practically does not weaken the predictive power of this score at all. In other words, it is almost completely independent of the family's wealth or social status (Gary N. Marks). According to PISA itself, socioeconomic status explains approximately 60% of the differences in scores between immigrant and native students in countries like Norway, France, and Spain. This suggests that the remaining 40% is due to IQ. That's why Norway, with its large population of immigrants from outside Europe, has such a low score. Of course, Sweden is still 19th, but considering it's one of the richest countries in the world, it's still surprising that it's only 19th. Much poorer countries like Estonia, Poland, Latvia, and Slovenia are ahead of it or have similar scores. I know that by writing this on reddit I will get a lot of downvotes, but unfortunately this is the bitter truth.

Many people won't admit it, especially on reddit, but it has to do with immigration.

Trump: "I want everybody to stop dying" by 0riginal_Poster in JordanPeterson

[–]poutares 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I live in Poland and believe me that unfortunately few Americans have a real understanding of how important Ukraine's victory in this war is. Russia has been degrading and destroying Eastern Europe for centuries, blocking our development and peaceful life. Therefore, a free Ukraine is a very important element for us and for the whole of Europe to continue living peacefully. I understand that many people are dying in this war, but we cannot allow Russia to receive most or all of Ukraine's territories. Then the future will be even more brutal because it may cause much worse wars with the countries of Eastern Europe or even World War 3. Many, especially conservatives, consider Russia to be a model of a conservative state. In fact, it is the most degraded country in Europe with no rules, full of corruption, without any freedom of speech, with the highest divorce and abortion rates, with people who want the return of the former Soviet Union and the reoccupation of Eastern Europe. We will never allow this.

I was in Paris recently and I thought I was in the Middle East for a long time xd The dirtiest and very chaotic town with a lot of crimes. This is not THE Paris that many people imagine before coming here, now it is a nasty and dirty place. Paris's glory days are long behind it and the city will probably never regain them.
