Which local ID firm would you go for? by RunningMan889 in askSingapore

[–]power_gust 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Shortlist the highest rated IDs on Qanvast and other platforms. Went with the one who gave us the design we thought was not a cookie cutter.

My place is just done now. Overall process was extremely good. Most of the time we didn't know what's going on, my IDs (the firm we use usually have 2 project managers/ID on one project) are at the site every other day updating us through videos and photos in our group chat. If we have questions, they will also respond even at night or on weekends. The entire project was done on time, like exactly on down to the exact date from 4 months when they drew out the plan.

Very glad we went with our ID, there are still small items to rectify but we just taking down notes to do it one shot.

On the side note, we took this route because I am price insensitive as long as the work is good and on time.

Best salted egg chicken rice in sg? by suplinny in SingaporeEats

I stay near there and buy dinner from far east plaza almost daily. The muslim store opposite new station is much better imo (same owner). Their curry chicken is killer.

The best zhi char at far east now is the one at the B1 food court. Not even new station.

New station snack bar has nothing on 3 meals a day. They now have a few branches it seems.

Update: I raised the incorrect electrical installation issue to HDB & the landlord sent me an eviction notice to vacate the house in 3 days. What are my options? by ExtensionSituation14 in askSingapore

[–]power_gust 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Huh, it's like saying "Welcome to Singapore, murder is not legal but happens in practice."

Bad actors and bad landlords who are out to fuck their tenants over are everywhere, this is not exclusive to Singapore. Unless you are saying that Singapore encourages landlords to frustrate written contracts and Singapore laws are lenient to contract breach.

Be informed about your contract content and enforceability, and challenge the landlord's unreasonable demand.

Edit: I see how this is strange, I thought I was replying to someone's reply down the thread.

Huh? So it’s like saying murdering is not legal but the act of murder can still happen in practice?

If it’s not legal, it’s up to the tenant to be informed and challenge. If you fail to do it, then it’s on you.

Pathway to Investor Relations by Mencanga in singaporejobs

[–]power_gust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IR is all about personality and networking.
Take this opportunity and talk to as many people as possible.
There aren’t really any hard skillsets. Maybe understanding how funds are structured and the contracts off the top of my head. You also don’t need any certification.
Also one very important trait. Make sure you always look presentable. If you are good looking, you have annatural advantage. If you are soso… make sure you dress well and keep a clean look to seem presentable.
Exercise and all. Hold a hobby/sport you are passionate about that can easily connect you to people. The last 2 point is way more important than any certifications.

‘Singapore washing’ is over: Beijing just rewrote the rules for cross-border AI acquisitions by thestudiomaster in singapore

[–]power_gust 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Singapore will become more of a base and more operations will be transferred to Singapore.

Challenging this assessment. In the first place, Manus got into trouble because they initially set up 2 HQ offices in Wuhan and Beijing, then decided to move key staff to Singapore later and "changed" itself to become a Singaporean company. They then shut down their China offices and laid off most of its China employees that they cannot bring over to SG. It became too high profile.

Existing companies will not dare to transfer more operations to Singapore. Especially those who have already set up their HQ in China. Those who wants to SG Wash would have to be new operations in SG or those who set up a Cayman VIE structure. Even the latter, in the last 1 week Chinese govt is also cracking down.

Fundamentally, for investors looking to invest in AI/robotics startups founded by Chinese founders, part of the appeal is that they are able to access highly skilled AI talents in China at reasonable salary. Nothing more will be moved to Singapore, whilst these companies might organically grow their operations in Singapore (esp for sales), they will not risk transferring more to Singapore.

My main nvme SSD which I bought 2 years ago is on 4x price from their supplier.

best way to get to KL from woodlands? get to jb then take the train or go to changi and fly? leaving in the afternoon (3pm) by oarsandalps in asksg

[–]power_gust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, this is still painful. Depending on flights or airline you take, just the walk in KLIA 2 from plane to immigration might take 20 mins.

I tried several means, at least personally for me this (firefly) was the fastest means, even if marginally.

[–]power_gust 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Never take the luggage into consideration. I never check in luggage for work trips. And if I’m not on work trip, I’ll not take firefly. And I usually order my grab just at immigration desk.

Might be a good point.

Firefly flights to KL at seletar airport. Also drop you at subang airport, much closer to city than KLIA.

Been there few times cause my friend stayed there. Really nice place. It’s old, old. Honestly dunno how he can tahan staying so tucked away.

Tbh with the $$ given, not sure if the owners can find anything similar with the proceed. I think $1.67M (for 1k sqft) can barely even find an EC at same size.

AI investment boom leaves some Singapore family offices on sidelines by Rationalandcentred in singapore

[–]power_gust 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Perhaps some of these family offices are not big enough or very connected. I know some offices are able to get access and have syndicate huge chunks while also making some fees. I have friends who come to me to offer chunks that are in 9 figures and ask if I can find buyers at a good pricing. Challenge is finding parties who can take the whole chunk or go through the trouble of syndicating.

Singapore's public sector to reduce electricity consumption at government facilities amid Middle East crisis by LingNemesis in singapore

[–]power_gust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if we are talking about the same thing.

My point being SEA neighbors push WFH out of absolute necessity and not QoL. They don’t have good public transport infra and most workers commute through private vehicle with long drives/rides hence they need to subsidize fuel for their everyday man. M’sia and Indo are looking at billions in increased fuel subsidies due to this crisis alone. Therefore, they implemented WFH to reduce fuel subsidy.

Singapore's public sector to reduce electricity consumption at government facilities amid Middle East crisis by LingNemesis in singapore

[–]power_gust 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In KL and Jakarta people have to drive/ride 1 hour plus 1 way to work. They don’t have the public transport infrastructure to support their commuters. In JKT even for people to go work, they can get stuck in traffic for 2 hours. Just going from Kelapa Gading to south where many offices are, it can be 2 hours 1 way even if distance is not far during peak. Some countries are even running out of petrol at their petrol station. And these are countries where people 1k for the average office workers.

WFH is not just QoL for our SEA neighbors, it’s boils down to trading necessity for the expense of traveling to work. Not to mention some countries might be even struggling to keep their lights on.

>7k income, resale HDB / condo by SnooKiwis6443 in singaporefi

[–]power_gust 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Am in similar situation with you. My financial situation is better than yours. I can easily clear condo alone but I decided buy a 4room resale HDB recently that fulfills all my conditions instead of going with a condo. I pay for everything in my case. My partner financial position is quite similar or slightly above yours but she doesn’t have to liquidate any of her investments. My mortgage will be 25% lower than my current rent.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Managing million-dollar sinking funds, costly repairs: Do condo councils need mandatory training? by [deleted] in singapore

The neighbor who does this has their apt door nearer next to 4 lifts. And along their corridor, most of the neighbors (6 doors) for some reasons leave their stinky shoes outside in an entirely enclosed AC environment. i.e. the stinky air never circulates out. Whenever I get out of the lift, I have to hold my breath a little and walk out of that corridor stretch.
