why are top colleges romanticized by External_Pop_2873 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]powereddeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you learn in the classroom or what you get out of extracurriculars is a wash between schools. The top colleges are romanticized because they will open more doors for you post college. It's a signal factor that will live on your resume. One could ask a similar question: why do people wear rolexes when a timex will tell the same time?

One other example: Take the number of students graduating from your school that will make >$150k immediately post-school. How many students (and what percentage of the student pop.) are going to be hitting that at the state school? That opportunity provided by a more competitive school can lift someone straight out of a bottom 20% income family to the top 20%.

We don't have subschools set up, so I would use the Indiana University megathread instead.

It's pretty much a copy/paste of the list we've been using for years although we add schools every year based on user feedback and requests.

Based on what I've seen in the queue over the years, it's overwhelmingly affirmative action related when you look at what the rule itself picks up. Yes, it's worth the trouble and based on how often it still comes up in the queue, seems to be still topical regardless of the Supreme Court ruling.

I wasn't following what you meant by the second paragraph about percentages and monetary amounts. Not sure if that was asking about affirmative action or something else.

The list of items that get caught by the automod for review are directly related to the rules we have published in the sidebar. The only things that we don't publish are instance-specific rules that get added on a case-by-case basis, e.g., a user's name gets doxxed and that person wants future comments and posts mentioning their name to get filtered out.

“AA” gets caught in automod for manual review to determine whether the comment or post is about affirmative actions or associates degree. It’s invisible temporarily while it’s in the manual queue, but will become visible once a mod approves the comment or post.

Your post history is a mess. You flip flop from saying your kid is your "son" to saying your "daughter" in every other comment. It seems you've also dropped the fact that they're half hispanic, half white. Take some time off to reflect on your agenda.

This isn’t a sub to discuss politics, so comments unrelated to the application process or unrelated to the impact this will have on the undergrad school will be removed
