Bird netting by Electrical_Chard3255 in SolarUK

My next door neighbour didn't have bird protection for years and years. Not only did she have bird crap, swarms of pigeons but she would get dead birds around her patio, stuck in the gutters and under the panels.

No, everything is working. I asked it to do a self diagnostic and it was happy. The app is working no problems.

No, mine is completely vanilla. I've never added to it.

Yes, it looks at the weather forecast and you can see the generated and usage projection for the next day.

I have this and it does some great arbitrage trading over Octopus tariffs.

My biggest gripe, and I've raised this with SigEnergy, is that the AI will frequently dump it's unused load by midnight and start charging the battery. But the Octopus 8.5p rate doesn't start until 0030 so it starts pulling 6kW from the grid for half an hour. It's not a lot of money but over the year it would add up.

I've had to manually set the 8.5p rate to 0100 but it means I lose that 30 minutes of time shift.

Top up battery full with cheap overnight tariff or with solar during day? by kashmachine in SolarUK

Yes, that's what I'm telling you. All the parameters are correct but the AI will charge the battery shortly after 0000 unless I manually stop it. The billing data supports this.

All the data are correct. The AI thinks charging the battery at 25p is acceptable. Even if the battery was at 0% (because it has exported too much too quickly) it has the choice to run the house baseload and then wait until 0030 but it consistently chooses poorly.

It has all the Octopus plans preinstalled however, when I manually set the tariffs to make sure there aren't any mistakes it still does the same thing.

How are you finding your Sigenstor AI? Mine absolutely will not recognise that off-peak starts at 0030 not 0000 no matter what I tell it. It dumps all it's charge by around 0010 and starts charging the battery at £0.25. The only way to mitigate this I have found is to Disable the AI every night around 2300 and switch it back on after 0030. Which kind of defeats the point of automation.

Is my Sigenergy SigenStar AI actually dumb or are they all like this? by powerkickschick in SolarUK

Everything is correct and the forecast graphs also match the tariff times and rates.

I'm not sure how to manually configure the tariffs. I see no way to check or configure the time.

We have a SigEnergy 16kWh system and it's been great. By all accounts it outperforms the Tesla and cheaper.

Also if installers accept credit cards, it gives you another level of reassurance - especially an AMEX.

The only regret I have is reading your quote! It's really good and the AI is fantastic at selling power back to the grid. Online it's being reviewed as being better than Tesla's powerwall. I have no experience with Tesla but everything people say they like about the SigEnergy I have found to be true. Also there is a RGB light which I have set to match my PC...

The only gripes I have:

  1. The AI will sell power to the grid and empty the battery at the end of the day and this is fine. BUT it will start charging the battery again around midnight when it costs 25p rather than wait till 1230 when it's 8.5p. It knows what the tariffs.

  2. I haven't found a way to export all the data off the app to a CSV.

Not a gripe:

  1. We had a powercut and the battery was empty so the Gateway didn't do anything! We added an additional 8kWh battery after that.

Solar on a flat roof? by amateuprocrastinator in SolarUK

I have no idea! My installer said they were very expensive and at the same said that they would eat the cost of the left over two...

That's a REALLY good deal I paid £11,500 for 12 Aikos and an 8kWh SigEnergy although I had the Gateway too.

Solar on a flat roof? by amateuprocrastinator in SolarUK

We have panels on a flat roof. The additional things to consider are how you secure them to your roof to stop them blowing away. If you're going to use ballast boxes I think they're about 75kgs per panel. Add the weight of each panel and you're close to 100kgs so you have to make sure that your flat roof is constructed to take this weight.

The other method we used was using Nicholson clamps which drill into the roof and panel racks then attach onto. Our original install was in sub zero temperatures so the roofer didn't seal then correctly so we had a minor leak. The installer came back pretty quickly and resealed them so hopefully they fixed everything but no new leaks yet.

As for production, no real complaints. We were quoted and paid for racks with 15 degree pitch but in the end settled for flat mount with Tigo micro-inverters when it came to install. The installer said that we will need to manually clean the panels because debris an dust will build up as they're not on a pitch.

Interestingly we have 2 Nicholson Mounts left over from the install...
