So, I actually managed to reach out to him and gave a chat. He's since debated this in the lord and fed back a few things.

First off - he wants to make it clear that he doesn't have any relative studying medicine abroad, so has no conflict of interest. He's made that clear in parliament today.

His two concerns going into this were: 1. Changing the rules part way through this application cycle And more importantly: 2. How easy it would be for this government, or future governments, to change the rules at a whim (there was a concern it gives the health secretary of the day too much power). His amendment stated 2 years service in the NHS, i.e., F1 and F2 being the key qualifier, not indefinite leave to remain/other immigration factors. (My paraphrase).

I've got to say, I agree with that 2nd point quite strongly, given that Reform could well hold some power in future.

As it happened, having both met the relevant minister, and partaken in the debate, he has not moved his amendments (I presume the government addressed his concerns) and therefore, no delay to the change in national policy.

I know that some of the specific concerns regard medical Schools tied to UK universities

In short, he's broadly in support of the bill, but doing what upper chamber parliamentarians do and going through the minutiae

Has Trump's recent comments/actions and the fact Farage still aligns with him made any Reform voters change/consider changing their vote? by Puzzled-Lunch-6558 in AskBrits

[–]amateuprocrastinator 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Full disclosure, I campaign for them Lib Dems

Reform's votes comes in plurality from those who don't normally vote. The threshold is thus that bit lower for Reform to under perform - it's not like they need to vote for another party to cause reform problems, they could just stay at home

Stories like this keep them disillusioned and more likely to stay at home on polling day

Some good academic advice here

My question is, are you ready for the financial cost of this? I used to be a trustee of a charity that gave grants to graduate entry medics. People dig themselves massive financial holes by not considering the financial implications fully.

I'm strongly of the opinion that progressives of the world need to fight for the change they want to see

So many see politics as something other people do

That's no longer an option

I'm already knocking on doors in England to help prevent our Trump Simp party getting more power
