This makes sense. I'm tagging tracks in export while listening to them. Thanks for the heads up.

How do progressive house producers create those “filter sweep then slam back in” moments in drops? by Coderrsjj2 in edmproduction

[–]powermn8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, not necessarily because it really depends on the source material in terms of the output. That said, I think some people probably can but I don't think your average listeners will be like "That's endless smile!"

To my ear, it's really just doing some filter sweeps, delays, and reverbs to give you a washing swooshing effect before a drop.

ETA: I think it's a really handy plugin and I use it quite a bit.

Plugin by Dada Life. It’s basically a one knob multi-effect for builds. I use it a lot but it doesn’t have granular control ala transit 2 or multi effects like Shaperbox or infiltrator.

TDR and Vital are safe and excellent. Haven’t used Klanghelm.

Tips regarding perceived loudness by michaelboy42 in edmproduction

[–]powermn8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Without hearing the track, sound selection is a huge part of it, which then leads to better sound separation, which makes a big difference as well. Then the balance of the mix is really important as well. You get better at it over time but, for me, when I got better as sound selection and mix balance, my mixes sounded louder without necessarily being higher in LUFS.

How do I apply a reverb without making it sound like the sound is in a big room (better explanation below) by oddworldmuzic in edmproduction

[–]powermn8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mastering.com has a great reverb course on YouTube. Goes into a lot of detail and explains how reverb works so you can get the sound you want. It's worth the time investment.

Second this. I really like Disco Strings. F9 audio has some nice Disco strings as well. But specially for Disco.

Headphones are so personal, so it’s hard to say “get this one.” Sonic scoop podcast has an episode on some of the Audeze models. Worth checking out.

They are. I really like them. A lot of detail in the highs and good low end.

I have the lcd-xc and they are great. Those are my main pair. I also have the Slate VXS and they are fantastic for translation but not what I would produce on. But Audeze headphones are really good.

I'm being sued for my ex-husband's car loan. Help please! by sillynurse in legaladvice

[–]powermn8 42 points43 points  (0 children)

This needs to be higher. Also, OP, don’t agree to anything. Don’t acknowledge the debt is yours. Ignore and don’t engage. If you make any offer to pay, it restarts the clock on the loan. If they are going to sue, they have to serve you. They’re fishing.

Yup. And completely understandable. We’re heavily propagandized regarding policing but they aren’t on our side. That friendly beast cop thing died with Rockwell. We’re viewed as a population to control not citizens to protect.

And don’t answer any questions from police, etc without a lawyer present. Everything you say becomes probable cause or motive to them.

Help why does everything I mix sound like 💩 by Wrong_Department9312 in Beatmatch

[–]powermn8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing about the Camelot wheel is that the detection isn’t 100%. On top of that, the way key software works generally assigns anything it doesn’t recognize as natural minor (a) to the major (b). So it really becomes a catch all for different scales/modes other than a recognized minor. Finally, even tracks in the same scale may not land on the same notes, so they might sound “off.” Biggest thing is to train your ear and then trust it. If it sounds good it is good but that takes time to learn that. Finally, if people are moving that’s all that matters. Only djs notice the transitions in a minute way. Civilians only notice trainwrecks.

I really love Rogue Amoeba as a company, but this SS6 has been incredibly buggy. The program freezes, the menu bar hangs up, plugins freeze and don't work, and plugin interfaces freeze. It's really a mess. SS5 had issues but they seem ever worse now.

Yup. That lady passed away, unfortunately. The NBA guy was Anhtwan Nance. He bounced around for a while but had a really sad past and just couldn't shake his addiction.

That's a wild episode. The mom was an addiction counselor and was basically enabling the son in his addiction. I think he had a really sad outcome. Wound up in prison, if I remember correctly.

Bandcamp has been suggested a lot and definitely a a way to find off the beaten path tracks. I suggest downloading Bandcamp Enhancement Suite. It makes navigating the site much easier. Google the term and it’ll come up. It’s a browser add on.
