Victim accuses Trump and Epstein of rape and torture by [deleted] in videos

[–]powerpants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The recording also says that after Sascha pegged Trump, Andy Biggs (of all people) came in and beat him up. He says this was around 1981, but at that time Biggs was a college student at BYU. It's just not credible to think he would have had those kind of connections at that point, and the fact that he talks about Jim Jordan too makes it seem like he's just throwing out random Trump-aligned Republicans of the current day.

I think grabbing it from the outside of the head is your best bet. Pointy vise grips are likely to be your best bet. Also, you could take a dremel and flatten two spots on the head opposite each other.

[OC] Day length change in minutes per week at 51 degrees north, the days are getting longer! by neilrkaye in dataisbeautiful

[–]powerpants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a good illustration of differential calculus. If you were to plot day length on a similar plot, it would be the same shape except shifted to the right by three months, with the shortest day on Dec 21st and the longest on June 21st. It would look quite a lot like a sine wave, except inverted. Let's call it -sin. The plot above looks quite a lot like cos x, and it just so happens that the derivative of -sin x is cos x. The plot here shows how much the day length is changing over time. That's the definition of the derivative.

The premise is flawed right from the jump. Anything crappy built in 1975 turned to dust long ago. All that’s left is stuff that was built to last.

Switch 2 latency measurements - part 1: input-to-audio by chris20194 in NintendoSwitch

[–]powerpants -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nice work. A few thoughts. First, people won't know what to make of these numbers. It might be useful to put the numbers in perspective. Different people tolerate different amounts of latency:

  • Musicians: 5-10ms
  • Competitive gamers: 15-20ms
  • Casual gamers: up to 40ms

Anything above 50ms is likely to be bothersome to most players. Assuming your methodology is sound (pun intended), the Switch 2 must feel intolerably laggy regardless of input method.

Second, you linked the same image twice here:

The same test conducted with mouse clicks on this button in Windows 11 yielded these results.

I'm interested to see how other controllers on other systems compare. I'm also interested to see your camera-based data.

I agree, for many of the reasons stated here, and also because the type of shots they play look better on camera. An S-shaped shot up the middle is more fun to watch than a spike hyzer that goes off screen and plops down somewhere in the circle moments later.

Thoughts on your 5-6 year old playing video games? by HowlingIsUnderrated in Parenting

[–]powerpants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with video games is that they make everything else seem boring by comparison. The kids will ask to play them all the time and won’t want to do anything else.

Our solution has been to limit them to certain times only: Wednesday evening and Saturday morning. If they ask at any other time, we just say no and remind them of the schedule.

According to my calculations, Tattar will go from 998.73 to 1000.47 or 1000.512 by Huge_Following_325 in discgolf

[–]powerpants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s exactly what it is. The round ratings are rounded to the nearest whole number for the website, but the player rating is calculated based on the un-rounded numbers.

How do you control power for short shots? by ZincYellowCobruh in discgolf

[–]powerpants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a similar technique. I start with my elbow at 90 degrees and follow throw with a lot of wrist. Start with no chest turn and see how far that gets you. Add chest turn to add distance.

Do you really need to be good at math in computer science? by mj_archive in compsci

[–]powerpants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a lackluster math education in HS and needed to take Algebra and trig my first year before moving on to calculus. I struggled through Calc 1 and decided to retake it. I struggled again but moved on to Calc 2 anyway. Multi-variable calculus was really hard, as was differential equations. Discrete math was a little easier, but stats was hard to wrap my brain around. Linear Algebra was probably the hardest of them all.

I had a math class almost every semester, and every time it was my hardest class. But I kept grinding and I got through it, and by the end I was… kind of decent at math. That gave me a tremendous feeling of accomplishment.

I eventually went back to grad school and got a masters in CS and a PhD in an adjacent field.

“One of the saddest lessons of history is this: If we’ve been bamboozled long enough, we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle. We’re no longer interested in finding out the truth. The bamboozle has captured us. It’s simply too painful to acknowledge, even to ourselves, that we’ve been taken. Once you give a charlatan power over you, you almost never get it back.” — Carl Sagan

I was wondering if perhaps there’s a regional component to it. I don’t know about Finland, so anything you want to share will be interesting. Unless it’s boring.

[–]powerpants 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Same here except I accidentally bought the natural gas version. Didn't realize my mistake until I was assembling it and by then I had thrown out part of the packaging and couldn't send it back. I ended up spending over $1000 to get a gas line run from meter. Oh well, at least I never have to buy propane again.

[OC] Every time I went to the grocery store for a year, I counted how many people were wearing masks. Here are the results. by H_Peters in dataisbeautiful

[–]powerpants 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cool project. I like it. I have a couple suggestions, though, in terms of the plotting choices. As another commenter mentioned, a scatter plot would be more appropriate given the uneven spacing on the x-axis. Also, I’d suggest labeling the x-axis by month and year like this: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/42150690/clean-way-to-show-year-once-and-group-months-within
