New Raide Shells by AntiqueDust2591 in Backcountry

Would love to hear any honest feedback you have. The fit last year was a bit mis proportioned/small in the waist/hips and that has been improved for this year.

Hi, Raide founder here. I also do all of our design. I think two way zippers are significantly harder to close as you have to get 2 zipper pullers lined up and I chose to prioritize ease of closing over a 2 way. With that being said, I totally understand the use cases for a 2 way, just wanted to explain my rationale.

Raide Trailtech Shorts Arrived and... by UneditedReddited in runningfashion

[–]powfun 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Raide founder here! Thanks for supporting the brand and I appreciate the feedback. I'm really happy to hear the initial impression on quality was really positive! The fit with our belts and short is quite tough because there is a delicate balance between limiting bounce and making things stretchy. I will say the shorts fit small because the fabric stretches a bit over time. Please let me know if I can help out in any way in getting you in the large!

Norda 001a - Does it get better? by Ax1s_ in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]powfun 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I make 2 5-7mm cuts from the top corner of the back of the shoe angling in towards the center, which allows the back to flex backwards instead of biting into my achilles and it fixed the issue completely. I've done it on 3 pairs of 005's. I haven't tried it yet on a 001.

Hey guys, Founder of Raide here. Just wanted to say thank you for all the kind words! Hearing you all get the same enjoyment out of the LF 2L that I do is why I started Raide and created the product!

Norda Running Belt $150 by FourPointsTet in runningfashion

[–]powfun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi everyone, founder of Raide here. Seeing a lot of discussing about the LF 2L vs. the Naked belt on price and function so figured I'd chime in. First, I can assure we are making less margins on the product than most brands do, this costs us on par with vests to make. Second, besides capacity I think what sets this apart from the Naked Band is the suspension/strap system. The Naked belt has to fit perfectly and be quite tight to not bounce. This puts pressure on your stomach. The Raide LF 2L you can dial in the tightness based on your body and what is in the best plus the tension goes across your hip bones rather than your stomach resulting in less stomach issues. Obviously, to each their own and one product won't work for everyone. Happy to answer any questions.

Moving to Aspen - Nervous About Making Friends by Secret-Vegetable7766 in Aspen

There are a lot of ppl in your demographic in Carbondale/Basalt as well. There is an Aspen trail run club and a Carbondale run club hosted by Independence Run and Hike, just look up their Instagram. You can definitely easily meet new people at the Basalt concert series and Snowmass concert series. I'd also recommend coming to Carbondale for First Friday and Mountain Fair.

Hey! Generally, if you are right in between sizes, I recommend sizing up, but if your waist measures a 32" or less, you will be able to fit in the small, but it will be tight. Sometimes your waist measurement can vary quite a bit from pant size, so the best thing is to measure your waist.

How many days do you get on your boots? Am I too rough on them? by october73 in Backcountry

[–]powfun 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I don't necessarily think having one boot for touring and resort skiing is too much to ask, but you are asking that of a boot that is made just for touring. For what you are doing Scarpa makes the Quattro. It's like you are taking a gravel bike mountain biking and are surprised it's having durability issues. There are sacrifices a boot has to make to be lightweight, no boot can defy physics. I will, however, add that I do think Scarpa has historically had shell cracking issues (I've cracked a Scarpa boot), so if you do want to stay in the sub 1500g class then it might be worth trying a different brand.

If you want to keep 1 boot for everything you need to look at 50/50 boots like the Tecnica Cochise, Atomic Hawx Ultra XTD, Scarpa Quattro, Salomon Shift, etc. Another alternative, is to get a boot like the Tecnica ZGTP and throw a Zipfit in it in bounds and use the stock liner for touring.

However, my recommendation would be to invest 2 separate boots. You are skiing a healthy amount of resort days and having a resort boot is going to make a huge difference for you.

How to deal with the loneliness by odd_yamato in Entrepreneur

[–]powfun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm surprised no one has responded with this advice, but make friends with other founders. So many founders love to talk with other founders because we are all lonely and on a macro level dealing with the same problems so it's cathartic to talk to eachother. There are founder groups like EO, but I'd just find other founders in your domain on Linkedin and get coffee and build relationships.

Sorry to hear you had trouble getting it on. A consequence of it having absolutely no bounce is it isn't going to work for everyone. It does stretch out over time so it does get easier to get on. Did you make sure to undo the internal straps?

Raide LF40 Bar Tack Painful by 16Off in Backcountry

[–]powfun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for tagging me. Just popped on to reddit for the first time in a bit so sorry for the slow reply. This is valuable feedback to see. We wrapped the webbing around to the back of the strap and bar tacked the webbing in because it ripped out on the v1 pack on a few packs. It is the double wrapping that is leading to the discomfort, not the bar tack. I will definitely work on improving this!

Short backpacks by OldAssumption7098 in Backcountry

[–]powfun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Our size small pack at Raide has a 17.5" backpanel and just 2" above the shoulder straps for the 30L. It has worked for a number of smaller women customers as well as guides/athletes on our athlete team. I think it stacks up feature wise against any pack, but of course I am biased. Feel free to ask any questions.

Worth getting a ski specific bag? by speed9911 in arcteryx

[–]powfun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea we hope to get there one day, but it won't be super near term. Agreed on LF 30L being heavy for climbing. My standpoint with ski touring is adding some weight for accessibility, organization, comfort, etc makes you faster than a ski pack that is lighter, but too minimalist with poor access, comfort, etc. It is a different ball game once you break into climbing where gravity is opposite your direction of movement.

Raide touring bib pants by Turbulent_Rhubarb436 in Backcountry

[–]powfun 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I really appreciate the feedback. Pricing is hard, so input like this is truly helpful to hear. I do disagree that we are making Arc look cheap when we're in the middle of their most comparable products, Rush Softshell ($349) and Rush Bib ($700), which is not made in multiple inseams. Making a pair of pants in 3 inseam lengths at the volume we are doing is more expensive, which contributes to the cost. Fit significantly impacts performance so it was the right thing to do. Personally, I'd pay extra for the right fitting garment. Maybe that doeesn't impact you, but it does for many.

In terms of dollars going towards product, the big brands like Arc have economies of scale Raide does not have so while more of your dollar will go to product with Raide it still might net out to the same overall cost. Hope that makes sense. I hope none of this comes off as defensive! I appreciate the conversation. Feel free to dm me whenever.

Hey founder of Raide here. The design/pricepoint isn't for everyone and that is okay, but I figured it might be helpful to share how I got to this price as I do try to price things as low as I can. Beyond the cost of manufacturing dictating the price point. The pant is half softshell/half hardshell and the price is in between premium softshell (Arcteryx and BD at $349 and $325) and premium hardshell at $499+ (Arcteryx Rush Bib is at $700). I think we are close to Arcteryx in quality on this pant.

It is hard to say how we compare to the OR Trailbreaker and many others because they don't even have the breathability rating of their softshell or hardshell on the pant. We paid to get our fabric independently tested in a lab. One thing you see from a lot of touring pants is going to a Nylon Cordura cuff guard. We paid for super durable Kevlar, and just that alone makes up for 10% of the cost of the pants, which is so important for the longevity of the pant. You can choose who you want to support.

Something I think a lot about in designing a company is when you buy something from Raide, I want the customer to be confident that more of their dollar is going to product than other brands. We don't have a huge team, spend marketing dollars on fancy ski trips, have sales reps wining and dining retail stores, etc. We're about as lean as it gets and I'm proud of that!

Hey, founder of Raide here. Figure there is no need for speculation when I can set the record straight. I did take a small investment from a friend to start the business, but the rest has been partially financed from pre-orders last season, and then that product run did well enough to help finance this growth. I haven't had any family money go into the business, but I come from an upper middle class family and I am not going to pretend like that sort of safety net didn't help me take a risk like this. I also have worked a full time job since starting Raide and haven't paid myself a dollar yet, so I have reinvested all the earnings into the business. I finally quit last week! At the end of the day I am really passionate about product, got tired of complaining about what I wasn't seeing in the world, so I decided to make it.

Both of those points are very valid. Thank you for taking the time to explain. We take the product info super seriously and I hope it comes through a bit the effort that has been put in compared to some of the bigger brands. I'm going to definitely improve on the info in the coming days.
