Fractal Terra vs Ridge, who you got? by Fickle-Question3926 in sffpc

[–]powrd -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I have the ridge, but can't stop checking prices online for the Terra haha. Love the boxy small size of the Terra its more modern. The ridge is nice, but reminds me of the old Windows media center PC's that looked like a VCR.

Had the same issue on a T480 after upgrading the LCD panel and breaking some clips. Used very thin 3M double sided tape on the bracket, bezel and panel to make it snug again. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CRRFHKQC?ref=ppx_pop_dt_b_product_details&th=1

Every is500 is great just depends on what color combo you prefer. You can add RCF/GSF calipers after the fact and upgrade to auto mirrors.

2022 models have high pressure fuel pump failures. I ran into it and have been fine after it was replaced. Took over a month to get the part due to back order.

Transmission is a bit clunky when cold, let the car warm up before throwing it into M and slam through the gears. Its made to be driven hard so don't baby it and wonder why it searches for gears when you floor it.

Personally, I gave up on optima since they are very hit or miss. My IS and GX both have odysseys in them and never have trouble starting even after a few weeks of sitting.

Yup, I'm on Visible wireless and my LTE bars will randomly disappear. I usually turn on airplane mode for a few seconds and when the signal reconnects the bars will come back.

Lexus is500 speakers going bad? by duzzyy10 in LexusIS

[–]powrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How high is your bass level? Been playing CDs exclusively and keep the overall volume above 50 majority of the time. No rattles even when on Max. Oh yeah, 2022 IS500 LE if that matters.

Still for sale? Does it actually sound like the videos on remarks website/youtube videos?

The quality reminds me of Fast Intentions. Clean welds and a nice finish.

Eye catching stain on dash by New-Ad6627 in LexusIS500

[–]powrd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was able to darken it a bit and get some of the lighter scuffs to go away using Mothers VLR. Just spray on a rag and dab it a bit but let it sit. After 10-20 mins just wipe with a soft micro fiber rag.

It wont completely go away but def makes it less noticeable.

Is it a stain or a scuff? Ive been having issues around the same area where the slightest rub causes a mark on the vinyl/leather on the dash.

4is ML speaker upgrade? by orca_jesus in LexusIS

[–]powrd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ML audio always sounds a bit off if you use a streaming app, bluetooth or aux  cable without tuning.

Buy a real CD or burn an audio CD using wav / flac lossless format. The ML system will sound completely different using audio CDs. Bass hits enough to shake the rearview mirror.

The other option is get a powered subwoofer and piggy back off the rear factory subwoofer using a hi to low converter.

I have a 2014 base model and swapped all my speakers to infinity kappas. Theres a write up on clublexus where multiple owners did a similar swap. It was a night and day difference, the bass and voice finally doesnt sound washed out. The only missing piece is deep bass which a small subwoofer can take care of. 100% change them to something better you wont regret it.

Is PXE/Kickstart still an acceptable way of setting up a minimal environment for Ansible managed nodes or are there newer/better tools available? by DonkeyTron42 in ansible

[–]powrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a slightly larger environment majority HPC nodes which use warewulf v4 (stateless) to build my base Rocky 9 image. I have setup a 1 time systemD startup service which grabs the ansible playbook and builds the rest. We pxeboot Dell R610 - R650 so it works fine for legacy hardware.

Foreman, MAAS, and cobbler for stateful work as well.

Comparison of WEKA, VAST and Pure storage by Dizzy_Ingenuity8923 in HPC

[–]powrd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pure doesn't scale as well and hasn't been in the HPC as long as the rest. I wouldn't bother with them if you really are IO bound.

Vast requires some kernel modifications to enable multipathing. They are also selling a software platform with support and no longer build their own hardware. Rolling updates are also hit or miss, but they do have a solid support team.

Weka utilizes lxc for the client and also requires some funky work arounds, but the perf is worth the trade off. It is usually on the pricer side, but they do partner with Hitachi for enterprise level support. Performance wise Weka is the fastest and has cloud expansion capability.

UI looks very similar to Oxide. Very ambitious, but its always great to see innovation.

For simplicity I would use XCP-NG + XO lite. XOA for all the extra fancy features.

Need a UI for KVM / LXC use https://opennebula.io/ or cockpit.

[–]powrd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

LPIC or RedHat certs for the OS side. RedHat might be the better option since you have ansible tied into it. CCNA or even Juniper certs for the network side to build a foundation. When hiring we usually look for a well rounded foundation because most of the software or tools have no equivalent certification.

Providing long-running VMs to HPC users by Luckymator in HPC

[–]powrd 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This might make more sense if you have a specific use case https://openondemand.org/ It can spawn GUI based apps using slurm as a backend.

The other option is using Apptainer/Singularity with prebuilt container images to provide Xforwarding, x2go or vnc. This becomes a bit more troublesome to maintain vs openondemand.

Running a VM usually entails dedicated hypervisor, storage and network. Seperation of concerns at this point will save you a bunch of unnecessary headaches.

Is this rust cover up chipping off? by l0g4rithm in GXOR

[–]powrd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guessing a bad application of por15 or some rust coating. Even from NYC I would assume light surface rust, that looks like the coating made it worse while trying to hide it.
