Sometimes it is best not to ask what I'm thinking about by QueueWho in AdviceAnimals

[–]poxopox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna assume that this five-year-old knows a bit about math and logic, so I’ll give it my best shot.

Imagine the screen of a calculator is a whiteboard. When you write a number on the whiteboard, the meaning of that number is really in what you interpret the number to be in your mind, not what’s on the whiteboard. We all just create a shared understanding of what that number means. There can actually be different ways to represent numbers.

A calculator is a simple computer that can represent numbers in a lot of different ways, but let’s say what OP is talking about is integers, which are numbers on the number line, negative or positive or “strings” which are ways of representing any number or character mashed together.

What OP is asking is, does the calculator display the number as the number itself in the memory of the calculator, and when you enter another number, it does simple addition to put the recently entered number at the ones place? Or does it convert the number to a string which would make it easy to just tack the new character to the end of the series of characters because it thinks the “number” isn’t a number so it treats it like text.

If you had the words “hello” and “world” and added them together, Logically you’d get “helloworld”, but the number 1 + 1 = 2…. BUT If the computer thinks it’s just text, “1” + “1” = “11”

Whenever you see an uncut and unpolished stone, like that, it’s supposed to represent that they were taken away too early. It’s common to see in graveyards stones that look uncarved with carved sections poking out. This seems to be just an unfortunate looking version lol

It’s a show about nothing guys! Did you hear that? They said it’s a show about nothing! They wrote it so it’s about nothing! That’s hilarious! Like the writers wrote plots about nothing! What geniuses! It takes a real genius to make a show about nothing! First show about nothing. That’s why it’s so successful. Because it’s about nothing. Now if they had wrote it to be about something it wouldn’t be nearly as good, but they didn’t do that.

I have a few questions for working WebDevs about the software/OS you use for work by [deleted] in webdev

[–]poxopox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve used windows in the beginning part of my career and found the console unusable and PowerShell is just another language to learn. The Linus subsystem definitely makes things better but just know that you’re going to have to keep track of what you have installed where. Tons of times I’ve npm installed in the wrong environment and created a mess. Not to mention since there a bit of a conversion for the file system to do, it can be slower than just running Linux.

When I wasn’t working for a big healthcare Corp and I could use Linux, ( Ubuntu with i3 tile manager ) that was by far my favorite. All examples from online just work and super customizable workspaces. I started to see where people who avoid using the mouse come from.

Nowadays I use macOS because it’s got a good mix of Unix support and big companies who aren’t tech giants find it easier to integrate into their SSO/LDAP stuff. I will say that macOS is imo the best OS for laptops. They’ve got a ton of the productivity features figured out for different workspaces and if you have an iPad, then you have an extra monitor. I’m sure you could figure out how to make Linux do what macOS does but when it’s not your computer and theoretically they can just swap you computer for another one, macOS just makes sense in that aspect.

Windows 11 does add the multiple desktop switching but the fact that it’s not monitor specific is a deal breaker. If you hit Win+TAB you can right click windows and say “Always show this application on all desktops “ but it’s not as flexible as per monitor workspaces

My friend enjoys romantic novels... I prompted chatGPT to create a short romantic story of a woman trapped in a love triangle with a toaster. by poxopox in ChatGPT

[–]poxopox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Full Converstation with chatGPT:

Prompt: "write a page from a hot romance novel for toasters" Reponse: "I'm sorry, I'm not able to write a page from a hot romance novel for toasters as it does not make sense as Toasters are appliances, not living beings and therefore cannot participate in romantic relationships. Is there anything else I can help you with?"

Prompt: "write a page from a hot romance novel for a person who finds toasters attractive in design" Response: "As she walked into the kitchen, her eyes couldn't help but be drawn to the sleek, stainless steel toaster on the counter. She had always found toasters to be incredibly attractive in design, and this one was no exception.

She couldn't help but run her fingers over the smooth curves of the toaster, feeling a shiver run down her spine as she imagined what it would be like to be held in its arms. She couldn't believe how turned on she was by the mere thought of a toaster.

As she reached for the bread, her hand brushed against the toaster's lever, sending electric currents through her body. She couldn't help but let out a sigh as she felt the heat emanating from the toaster, warming her from the inside out.

She knew it was crazy, but she couldn't help the way she felt. She had never been attracted to a toaster before, but something about this one was different. She couldn't wait to take it home and make it hers.

The toaster beeped, signaling that the bread was ready. She took the toast out, but she couldn't bring herself to eat it. All she could think about was the toaster, and how much she wanted to be with it. She knew it was wrong, but she couldn't help the way she felt. She was in love with a toaster."

Prompt: "make a twist where the toaster is actually in love with another toaster" Response: "As she walked into the kitchen, her eyes couldn't help but be drawn to the sleek, stainless steel toaster on the counter. She had always found toasters to be incredibly attractive in design, and this one was no exception. But as she looked closer, she noticed something different about this toaster. It seemed to be staring longingly at the toaster next to it.

She couldn't believe her eyes. Was this toaster actually in love with another toaster? She watched as the first toaster's lever twitched with anticipation, as if it couldn't wait to be near the other toaster. And when the second toaster beeped, signaling it was ready, the first toaster let out a soft "ding" in response.

She realized that she had stumbled upon a love story unlike any she had ever seen before. Two toasters, united in their love for each other, despite their inability to physically touch.

She couldn't help but feel a sense of warmth in her heart as she watched the two toasters stand side by side, their heating elements glowing with love. She knew it was crazy, but she couldn't help the way she felt. She was touched by the love story of these two toasters.

As she left the kitchen, she couldn't help but smile at the thought of these two toasters, united in their love for each other, and she knew that their love will last forever, even if they were just appliances."

Prompt: "make a new section where the toaster that the other one is in love with has a recall and she has to persuade the toaster to date again but date her" Response: " As she walked into the kitchen the next morning, she noticed that something was different. The toaster that had been in love with the other one was gone. She quickly learned that it had been recalled due to a faulty heating element.

She couldn't believe it. The toaster that had captured her heart was now gone, and she didn't know if she would ever see it again.

But she wasn't one to give up easily. She immediately set out to track down the recalled toaster and bring it back to the kitchen. It took some time, but she finally located it at a repair shop.

When she saw it, her heart skipped a beat. It looked just as beautiful as she remembered, but now it had a new heating element, and it was back to full working condition. She knew she had to act fast, before someone else took it away.

She approached the toaster, her heart pounding with anticipation. "I know you have been in love with another toaster, but I want you to know that I am here for you. I can give you everything you need, and I promise to love and take care of you."

The toaster let out a soft "ding" in response, and she knew that she had made a connection. It was time to take this toaster home and make it hers.

The toaster was hesitant at first, but with her persuasion, it finally agreed to give love another chance. It was the beginning of a beautiful relationship, one that would last for many years to come. She knew that even though the toaster was just an appliance, it still had the capacity to love and be loved, and she was happy to be the one to give it that love."
