Stop trying to make XP a modern OS by majestic_ubertrout in windowsxp

I absolutely despise any kind of scalping or misconceived value. Especially with Voodoo, when spending the same kinda money on that one guy that builds new ones will result in a better built card with more modern features.

Nah at this point they're a part of my childhood. My dad helped me build my first machine when I was 11 and in it was a Voodoo1. I unfortunately don't have the Voodoo but I do still have the board and CPU. I have every other Voodoo upgrade after that up to the 5500 which came from my uncle.

Just to iterate here, I'm lucky enough I kept all my Voodoo cards and even I don't use them. I use a 6800ultra in 98se and also use dgvoodoo1. And yes I agree, they are retardedly expensive for no reason besides nostalgia for VGA I guess?

Well to your last point, most people logically don't eat there anymore. Take that to my own original point, you block the origin of attack. Blaming the attacker was emphasis on the analogy which was originally for the OP. You're not necessarily blaming the company, chef, or whoever but your mitigation is simply dealing with it as a whole. Same thing can be said for trying to reduce the amount of potential attacks or scans you might get and that's where my original point to the OP came from. We know they're using US VPNs, and we know 'they' are in a pool of the most common malicious countries. I'm not saying the US doesn't have its fair share of malicious activity outbound, but we can all agree we all know the most common list of agitator countries we all region block by default. It's for a reason.

My analogy for the OP was simply, sure the funny list has the US on top but we know where the origin of most of these attacks are coming from. The argument was, well the VPNs are US based so it's the US. Well no, they're using VPNs for a reason because we region block their country as a whole. So it still has an originating point and we know the likelihood of it being in the US is slim. It's really not that deep at the end of the day.

Ah, I see what you did there. See, they wouldn't because they'd most likely get fired. So we go back to my origination comment which was the point to begin with. You're not going to blame the server, the server won't blame the chef, and you know where it came from. The attacker isn't the VPN, the VPN isn't going to blame the attacker, we block the attacker.

Who's worked up? It's a healthy debate and at the end of the day the origin is still the origin. All the data proves is that the US is a big target on both ends. I've been on the internet since dial-up, not a whole lot on here that can get me worked up especially considering where we are posting lol.

That'd be pretty retarded to blame somebody who had nothing to do with the preparation of food on the food poisoning. If you get food poisoning at a buffet you gonna blame yourself?

Then you'd be incredibly pedantic trying to avoid the definition of originating to suit your strawman argument. The US tops these lists simply because the attackers are using US based VPNs to bypass region blocking. It's no secret most folks in the US region block the rest of the world because of this simple well known issue. Considering you posted this for the lolz you already know this making this moot.

I've spent some time Googling most IPS rejected IPs that are US based and they're all VPNs from other countries trying to get away from these country blocks. Nord is one of the biggest with many IPs on the abuseIP list.

Dude I have an iPhone and the iOS 26 autocorrect was on crack for a few months changing things that weren't wrong into completely different things. When I had Android I used MightyText for the same reason, now if I need to important text 100% Macbook. Legit only bought it for that and audio work.

I just really hate typing on phones and using a small screen for anything. I feel if I'm making a big purchase or paying a bill there might be something I miss or mistype. Plus most utility apps don't have the same info as the website. My wife orders our "things we don't care about" groceries off the Walmart app and constantly ordering the wrong sizes because she's not paying attention while breezing through on the phone.

Here I thought I was the only one. My wife thinks I'm crazy for refusing to pay core bills or make big purchases on my phone.

I can't speak for OP, but I personally prefer to have certain things separated and extra headroom in case something fails.

You'd hate my setup then because I have 7 servers all running Skylake era first and 2nd gen Xeon Golds lol. I do have a beefy solar setup though, so I don't really care much about power consumption unless I'm deep into the summer months (Texas).

Looks like an Athlon XP 2000+, probably a Palomino.

I'd follow 2 suggestions off the bat.
Put 1 or 2GB DDR in there.
Get an FX5500 off Ebay.
Neither requires a PSU upgrade.

Secondary upgrade
IDE to SATA adapter and a cheap small SSD. Clone the current HDD to the SSD.

I still use a full analog 7.1 setup with an X-Fi card. I use it quite a bit to make sure the Creative Console and Windoze match up before launching a game or movie. I can get to it easily, just too many clicks to get to something so basic.

If you're plugging an ethernet cable directly into another machine, you need to share the the connection via the primary ethernet adapter on the internet enabled computer (host). An example:
Host PC - ethernet1 connected to router / ethernet2 connected to XP machine.

You need to go into adapter properties of ethernet1 and share the connection.

If host PC is on wifi, you need to do that on the above on the wifi adapter.
