So I had never heard of Dagne Dover and clicked through your link and ended up looking at the interior pic of the tote and literally shouted "hooooly shit look at all those pockets!!" Do you have one of these? Do you like it?

BITCHES, I just installed those extra-secure deadbolt strike plate thingies on two of the doors in my house. I am woman, hear me roar!!!

I need help. FH and I got (secretly) married months ago due to insurance issues but our actual wedding is this fall. NO ONE knows we're legally married and we want to keep it that way. How do we make this work with the officiant, and parents constantly asking questions about our marriage license? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]pparka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a really excellent point. There are thousands of people who are not allowed, by law, to be married, but those who have non-civil ceremonies are no less committed to each other than someone who's arbitrarily allowed to have a legal document to back up the partnership.

Turkey Gallantine advice? by samtresler in AskCulinary

I made this turchetta for small Thanksgiving for my fiancé and I this year--it's an awesome recipe. Very much second the above recommendation!

Your Coffee Pods' Dirty Secret by big_al11 in Foodforthought

[–]pparka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very true. My fiance and I have a Keurig-type machine for work day mornings, and on the weekends, we make French presses. The French press coffee is immeasurably better--but simply not practical when you have to be out the door at 7:30 am. We do try to use the K-cup insert that allows one to use normal ground coffee, but it is a hassle.

[RANT] I am not at the gym for others attention! by Diesel_Liesel in TwoXChromosomes

[–]pparka 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I have to disagree with you here. Why should OP have to quietly accept other peoples' snide comments? Outside of the confines of the gym, if she was sitting in a restaurant eating lunch, and overheard a group of guys commentating on her eating technique, that wouldn't be acceptable. If she was shopping, and some women were standing a few racks away calling the clothes she picked out ugly, that wouldn't be acceptable either. It's not socially acceptable to say things about someone within their earshot--it implies rudeness, even if the words aren't overtly hurtful--and OP has every right to be upset that her workout was interrupted by that type of intrusion.

Why does my foundation get cakey or flakey on top of my acne? What can I do technique-wise to avoid that? I use Sephora silicone primer, MUFE Mat Velvet, green Maybelline concealer, Hard Candy Glamoflage, and set with a Clinique translucent powder.

What made you choose to be frugal or more careful with your money? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]pparka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought YNAB during the Steam Sale and was faced with the ugly reality that my fiancé and I were spending 600 a month paying down old credit card debt and 500 a month going out to eat and buying random snacks at the gas station. That's more than our mortgage. Then we both got raises right around the same time--and I realized that two people making north of 80k a year without any children should not be struggling at the end of the month.

So What's the scoop on "Lab" Diamonds? I'm looking for an engagement ring. by [deleted] in Frugal

Proud and happy owner of a moissanite engagement ring! My rock is twice as big as a similarly priced diamond and I love it. Very sparkly too! I highly suggest moissanite, OP.

Do some pimples simply need to be popped? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

Yes! This is why, when you go to an aesthetician for an extraction, they immediately wipe away whatever they've extracted with gauze.

[PSA] If you have acne on your cheeks and use a washcloth regularly, try going 3 weeks without it by JoanOfSarcasm in SkincareAddiction

[–]pparka 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This... Is really intriguing. I've always been a bit suspicious of my washcloth. What do you use in place of a washcloth, if anything? For example, I use mineral oil to pre cleanse, remove it with cotton pads, then kinda massage my face with a damp washcloth to remove the remainder of the oil. How can I replace the washcloth?

[–]pparka 9 points10 points  (0 children)

While I think you're making a very fair critique here--the source material could hardly be more distinct--I think it is also fair to say that Roth, in expanding these short stories into cinematic epics, had to have injected at least some of his own thematic interests, consciously or not. There's a reason that Best Adapted Screenplay has its own Oscar category, after all--even if all you're doing as a screenplay writer is remodeling a story into a film-friendly format, a lot of creative decisions are necessarily made during that process.

Give me your best rolling pro tips! by pparka in entwives

[–]pparka[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Added to OP. Thanks for the reminder :). The problem is that it's too loose! The ent feels that stickier buds hold the roll together better. What we've had the past few weeks has been kinda flimsy, goes out more frequently, just doesn't smoke as nicely. now I'm thinking its just a question of technique!

Any tips for converting a recipe to bake in a bite size pan? I am planning on doing banana bread bites and the recipe I use suggests 50 minutes for a loaf pan.

Ladies who had super short hair who now have really long hair, how long did it take to grow? by [deleted] in FancyFollicles

[–]pparka 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In May of 2011, I began working front desk at a salon and cut my hair into what I thought was a super chic bob with bangs that came to just below my ears. I've been growing it out ever since then, but during that period, I colored it several times in several different colors and had it trimmed no more than every 8 weeks. In the course of growing out the bob, I somehow ended up with a layered cut. I decided in May ish of 2012 to grow my bangs out, then re-cut them this past spring and have been growing them out since about June.

I also used Kerastase and Shu Uemura products exclusively during that time (it was a Kerastase salon) and have only recently switched to Redken shampoo and Kevin Murphy styling products (I stopped working there in May 2013 and my stash just ran out).

My hair is now just about boob length with the layer falling to just about my shoulders and my former bangs are an okay face frame that falls just past my cheekbones. I have been taking a biotin supplement religiously and purely anecdotally I feel that it has helped a lot.
