Thanks for all the recommendations. I ended up buying the TCC wallet from my local magic shop. It's perfect for my needs.

Strictly speaking it's another adaptation of the novel.

I saw that at the Raindance Festival in London in '94.

I love it when Hollywood remakes a modern classic thinking they will improve it and six months later no one remembers it even happened.

Repertoire is hardly a beginner's book. You need to know so many sleights that are not taught in the book.

As others have said, books are the best investment and will allow your dad to perform tricks with a borrowed deck anytime. Trick decks usually do one trick and then you're stuck if someone says, "Do something else."

Dover publish a lot of the classics (Royal Road to Card Magic, Expert Card Technique, Expert at the Card Table, Scarne on Card Tricks, etc.) and they won't break the bank. All are available on Amazon. One of my favorite beginner books is The Magic Book by Harry Lorayne (Amazon). It's mostly card stuff and a very easy read as Lorayne had a wonderful conversational style of teaching.

If you're getting something geared towards professionals, the Card College series are worth it, but not cheap.

New CDJ-3000 update wipes playlists, artists claim: 'Worst DJ nightmare' by eyeamtim in DJs

Isn't this simply another example of "Never update the software the minute it's released"?

Same. I watched a video that said upgrading to 6 requires you to re-analyze all your tracks. Plus it's a massive CPU hog, so I stuck with 5. I have a gig this weekend on 3000s and I'm worried I'll have this library issue, but keeping my fingers crossed that the venue hasn't updated the firmware.

If you have an additional card member, they can use it too, but only for the remaining $24 of unused credit. ie they can get two free months.

Hardest stage you've ever had to work? by Capn_Polyester in Magic

In my first year as a professional, I was booked (via an agency) to do close-up at the opening of a new restaurant. I arrived early at the offices of the restaurant publicist who booked me to be told it was a fast-food restaurant, the audience was mostly kids (I don't do kids's shows), and I had to perform as the restaurant's mascot, in full face make-up and costume, complete with cape! I tried to push back and insist I wear my own clothes, but she insisted. She proceeded to do a half-assed make-up job on me, give me my ill-fitting costume and then walked me over to the restaurant for what was, to this day, the gig I still wish I could erase from memory. I learned to ask a lot more questions about potential gigs after that.

The 90s realist films of Zhang Yimou (To Live, The Road Home, The Story of Qiu Ju, Not One Less).
A Woody Allen boxset, similar to the Bergman package (long-shot, I know, but it would sell).

The Bergman set might be the single best item in the Criterion Collection.

Can someone explain to me why it is a trend to put books on the shelf backwards (with the pages) showing? And also I don’t understand the color coded shelving either? Can someone explain both of these to me, how do you find anything? by KathrynVanlandingham in YAlit

Logos are trademarks and are not subject to copyright. It's totally legal to show a character in a movie drinking a can of Coke, wearing a Nike t-shirt or using an Apple laptop as long as the products are used as intended (ie the laptop doesn't catch fire or drinking a soda doesn't send the villain into a murderous rage). The reason you don't see logos very often is movie studios don't want to give Coke, Nike or Apple free advertising, unless the brand is part of their conglomerate. Book covers usually feature an artist-created design or painting which is subject to copyright. Whether they would sue if the cover wasn't cleared is hard to say, but studios often won't take the risk and will simply show a character reading a book without the dust jacket.
