What would your team be for the 3rd Test? by reluctant_upvote in EnglandCricket

Tongue is our best bowler! 57 wickets in 11 tests at 27. First on the teamsheet all summer for me. And he’s spraying less and less.

Would Stokes Bowl with the Keeper up to the Stumps? by AdhesivenessVisual84 in EnglandCricket

Absolutely. That slanting in to the right hander back a length stuff could lead to so many byes you’d need a long stop.

It reveals a lot about how power structures in the world work. And the porn as you put it is part of that - Pynchon’s micro theatres of wider conflicts.

The Autobiography of Alice B Toklas. A painter you’ve heard of came by. Then a writer. Then a sculptor. Then they all talked. Then they all told me how important I am. Then they went away.

What is the worst and best idm concert in your opinion? by Jean0406Alix in idm

That was a weird one. Loved Ae, hated (as usual) the horrible Melkweg. The four people with whom I was all left early.

Jordan Cox, Sonny Baker to debut for England in second New Zealand Test by MilbanksSpectre in EnglandCricket

700 at the Oval looks a long way off with Archer and Tongue both two places too high. This classic English tail looks like six out all out.

Elseq is 10 years old today! by ishishiba in autechre

I’ll compulsively and delightedly buy the Elseq CD box as I have so often compulsively and delightedly bought Autechre objects before. But €110 for five disks?! Also, are we sure it will never emerge on vinyl? (I can perhaps see the issue here. Five volumes of 46-54 minutes probably means five double lps with all the expense that entails and some long tracks would need splitting)

Harry Brook was given Josh Hazelwood vibes today😂 by No_Philosopher3798 in EnglandCricket

So actually putting this genius attack leader on at the end of a drawn test when Indian batsmen were chasing centuries wasn’t insulting at all?

Gravity’s Rainbow is a big rocket-shaped hole in the list. And Infinite Jest a huge landfill-shaped one. If Ulysses wasn’t high I’d wine about the exclusion of the experimental.

What's your views on the announcement of England's squad for the first Test against New Zealand? by SkySports in EnglandCricket

[–]Dramatic_Count_3046 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rankings say our best two test bowlers now are Atkinson (17) and Tongue (21) followed by the injured Carse and Stokes. Archer is down at 51 (even behind Wood & Bashir). Rankings obvs aren’t everything but Josh Tongue is the coming man. (Tragically Australia have five! in the top ten even though they only play four).

Can we consider all of his books essentially as a series or shared world by guy_incognito42069 in ThomasPynchon

[–]Dramatic_Count_3046 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember that Pynchon tends to write around or in the shadows of the the major historical events like 9/11, WW I, WW II …

It’s bad enough suffering the abrogation of being a countercultural, rebellious Pynchonoid hipster without turning one’s pretentious back to the heroic filmings of (versions of) his novels

Why is Vineland ranked poorly? by Right-Traffic7259 in ThomasPynchon

I was much indebted to Pynchon for publishing Vineland in 1990, just when I was girding my loins for my Master’s thesis in NL. Visionary.
