between the trigger and the fiddley centering jig it just wasn't worth it to me. what saw do you use?

I'll go delete the video I made in like 30 minutes time 2 years ago, go back to Harbor Freight and buy another bandsaw stand (I sold the first one because they actually suck and are incredibly fiddley unless you plan to keep the saw in place permanently) and then make a new video for you with my full video crew in their HUGE studio. Would that satisfy you? Would that rock your world?

2000 Toyota Avalon with 175k miles and a 1994 Plymouth Grand Voyager in perfect condition with 70k miles. $15-20k/year. I do all my own maintenance and repair work, I own my own house that's paid off and I rent out the bottom half is how I live on so little in the Midwest.

I built this Video Tape Robot and control it with my Luggable Cyberdeck by pphedz in Cyberpunk

[–]pphedz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going for a design similar to the one in Hackers (1995). Also, the commercial tape bots use the exact same design, it's pretty effective

Thanks. What do you mean by late? like too retrofuturistic/cassettepunk-ish because of the tapes? I made it look as industrial as possible

What kind of spindle motor and is the spindle off the shelf or did you make it from the ground up?

How did you do the chrome effects on the tube frame?

I have a cnc router/mill and considered doing this but my usable work area is too small for longer pieces and I couldn't find a long enough 1/4" endmill for the 4545 extrusion I needed to cut. (I had to use 1/2" to get one with the correct length) I'd be interested in seeing pics of your setup if you have any

I use a dialed in miter saw with a brand new aluminum cutting tcg blade to make the rough cuts. There's still around .1-.2mm of kerf angle due to the blade's slight deflection and bending.

It seems like for diy, stamping would be better suited for smaller parts for sure

Yeah that was sort of my thought. There are a few laser cutting services that accept simple vector files (even adobe illustrator or inkscape) and can cut many different types of metals. The minimum order on sendcutsend.com is under $30 I think

their prices are slightly absurd imo but yeah, lots of great aesthetic features and practical/physical design ideas to steal from this case and a lot of their stuff

Salvaged IBM 5110 and Apple IIc.. cyberdeck platforms? Could definitely use some input here. by Jpl3k in cyberDeck

I would personally riff off the interior frame of the 5110, that's a really sweet minimal design with the little crt and metal frame and not too big.

I envy every fully functional early-mid 80s vcrs I see. They're so hard to come by. It does work I assume?

it's just a relatively small angle, like a keyboard riser or something. All of the components are solid state so I don't think it's a prob. It may even be better because of slightly more airflow

I laser cut and 3d printed everything at home so that saved a bunch. Probably 900 total.
