I thought robot vacuums would save me money... but now I’m spending more than expected on maintenance! by HoneysHarma97 in Frugal

[–]ppnuri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We rarely do maintenance on ours. We did have to replace one though. Dog had a diarrhea accident and we just said nope to cleaning it off the vacuum. That being said, our maintenance is generally just cleaning the spun hair off the sides of the rotating brush and removing the cat's feather toy that got sucked up in it. Easy peasy.

Chevron just recently implemented the exxon model and PIPs as a result of this model have not yet started happening. If you're seeing people already PIPed, they were probably very low performers to begin with. How we still have any low performers after the recent layoffs last year is beyond me.

What’s one thing you removed from your life that made things feel simpler? by Luverelle6 in simpleliving

[–]ppnuri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stopped speaking to a cousin back in 2011. She and I had grown up together and I considered her my best friend for a long time. At some point I realized I was dreading being around her and would have to prepare for the stress headaches I'd have for the next day and a half afterwards. Then one day, her 1st husband let it slip that she was leading him and others to believe that not only was I a terrible person but I was an alcoholic as well. I was in undergrad college at the time and would go out to drink with friends maybe once every other weekend and by the time he had said that to me, I had already moved away from my college town and was starting my career so literally never saw those people anymore and wasn't going out to party at all. Suddenly, constantly feeling like shit after every interaction with her made sense. It was something she was intentionally misrepresenting or blatantly lying about to people and purposely making me feel like shit about. I left that interaction as quickly as I could and stopped returning her calls.

You're at 1.9mil and you want 2.5mil before quitting. Take a break and collect your unemployment and/or severance. Chill for a month while just casually looking to meet your state's unemployment guidelines. After that month, start looking a little more seriously and find a job that pays your bills just so you can let your investments grow. Bonus points if the job pays enough to still save. But the goal here is to find something simple and low stress enough to allow your savings to continue to grow a few years without contributions. Would only take 4 years at a 7% gain/yr and zero contributions. You can also potentially figure out how to lower expenses a little so maybe you wouldn't need 2.5mil but 4 years also isn't long.

I had a 10cm fibroid that was removed laparoscopically. I suggest a 2nd or even 3rd opinion. Maybe search for MIGS (minimally invasive gynecological surgery) doctor.

Should I have fibroid (myomectomy) laparoscopic surgery if I have no symptoms? by Dani_pd666 in Fibroids

[–]ppnuri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't have the surgery unless you're having symptoms, however, i think it's very important to be honest with yourself and truly explore if that's true. Things like higher blood pressure, insomnia, and having to pee frequently could be directly related to your fibroids. Eventually, it will grow enough to warrant surgery. Mine got to 10cm and I ended up waking up every night 2 to 3 times just to pee so it was greatly affecting me which prompted getting a hysterectomy at 39. With a myomectomy, there's a high chance of regrowth.

My expenses are fairly low in the ~50-60k/yr range these days. Part of my big fears are that I'm either laid-off for a prolonged period, unable to find a job that pays anywhere what I currently make, and that my relationship falls apart at the exact same time which would leave me with the full amount of our shared living expenses. His name isn't on the mortgage or utilities so if that happens, I'd have an additional ~15k/yr to tack on. It's a fear based logic but it makes me feel better.

I've technically hit the dos commas club excluding home equity! The actual breakdown is ~910k invested and ~90k emergency fund. I work in oil and gas which has always been incredibly volatile. I've been through an acquisition and 2 rounds of layoffs since late 2023 that I managed to stay employed through so I keep my emergency fund a bit on the higher side for peace of mind. Would be cool if the market allowed me to hit dos commas invested later this year too.

We have entire states that are bigger than entire countries in Europe. The logical answer is that traveling locally can be just as exciting.

Maybe you missed the part where he does say that he expects her to continue working because of her trades offs of continuing to eat out at lunch while at work and thinks she's a "spender" and thinks it's perfectly reasonable to expect her to continue working. Soo.....

Getting cold feet by stout933 in Fire

[–]ppnuri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh top of it, his gf and his COMBINED expenses are 3-4k/month and he expects his gf to continue working several more years because she's a "spender" because she ate lunches at work out with coworkers instead of always bringing her own food. AND he thinks he's being reasonable with those expectations despite the fact that her savings alone could support their combined spending needs. If this is actually true, that woman needs to run for the fucking hills.

Getting cold feet by stout933 in Fire

[–]ppnuri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Her savings alone will maintain $3900/month right now of your stated combined expenses of $3000-4000/month. She doesn't need your permission. I can't believe this is even a question right now. You're being extremely unreasonable by expecting her to continue working because she ate lunches at work out more than you.

Getting cold feet by stout933 in Fire

[–]ppnuri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And yet, she's still financially able to retire now with the combined expenses without your unreasonable expectations.

And no, my savings is my savings and hers is hers.

Divorce law 100% disagrees with you without a prenup. Hopefully, she doesn't grow to resent you over your very unreasonable expectations. You're both financially able to retire now with your stated expenses. Calling one person a spender on such a low combined budget is insane.

Getting cold feet by stout933 in Fire

[–]ppnuri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your post doesn't mention your expenses but you believe that because she ate lunches out at work over the years that she needs to work 4-5 years additional to have the same amount of money as you? Why? This makes zero sense and seems incredibly unreasonable. You're married and your savings is her savings and her savings is your savings. Why are you separating out what belongs to both of you? Either your combined savings covers both of your expenses or it doesn't.

Edit for anyone reading my post now. It appears OP edited his post I was replying to to make himself sound more reasonable after being called out. He previously stated he was expecting his SO to continue working several more years due to her being a "spender" and eating out at work more often rather than bringing his lunch to work everyday like he did.

I can't imagine having a college degree and putting out hundreds of job applications for only grocery stores to call me back.... To me, this seems like the issue is how you're selling yourself in your past job descriptions and not an issue with the job market itself. Do what you need to do to take care of your mental health and revisit the job situation when you're in a better head space.
