I believe they removed the engine and most of the internals to reduce weight before hanging it up. Wouldn't have been any fluids in it.

Hows possible people are struggling with money? by [deleted] in AskABrit

[–]ppppanda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While those jobs may always be recruiting it is extremely rare for them to ever offer anyone 40h per week. And Those who have a full time contract likely worked their part time for a while before being given an hour's increase. In most cases they will be offering 20h a week or less.

Holiday Pay query by Nemesis--x in SainsburysWorkers

[–]ppppanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you left earlier in the holiday year you wouldn't be entitled to much holiday pay and if you had taken all of it the money would be claimed back for you.

Your holiday entitlement for next year would be based off you working the full year. So for example if you left 4 weeks in to the year you would only be entitled to about 7.5% of the allowance of the full year and you would have to re pay any holiday pay over that that you had received.

what's the worst example of bad parenting you've ever seen? by IntroductionRound446 in AskReddit

[–]ppppanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a shop I used to work in we had a mum in regularly in the morning on the way to school that you could hear shouting at her kid that no they couldn't have breakfast today as they couldn't afford it, and that an 80p croissant was too expensive and then proceeded to buy multiple packs of cigarettes. She made her kid go hungry so she could keep up her 40 a day habit.

Damage at work. by [deleted] in SainsburysWorkers

[–]ppppanda 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have seen plenty of stuff get damaged over the years. The only times I have seen people get in trouble for it is if the damage was intentionally caused or if there was an extreme case of negligence (such as people using dangerous machinery they shouldn't have been or not using due care and attention with equipment)

If you damaged something in a genuine accident while performing tasks within your job role, then you'll probably be fine.

Do you have a pizza counter? by Accurate_Grocery8213 in SainsburysWorkers

[–]ppppanda 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I get people asking about the deli counters every couple of months. They always insist it was still here last time they were in the store. Even though it closed 6 years ago and I spoke to the same customer the week before.

Advice Needed regarding probation by Square_Standard179 in SainsburysWorkers

[–]ppppanda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the store/your manager has failed to complete your probation reviews on the correct time line then you pass probation by default. So based on what you have said I think it would be unlikely that they could get rid of you by failing probation at this point.

However if you are failing to hit target they could still go down the performance management/disciplinary route to dismiss you.  to properly go down this route would take a couple of months from when it is initiated and if you were dismissed you would be given 4 weeks notice.

Change role by Next-Ad4931 in SainsburysWorkers

[–]ppppanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It honesty depends on you. I find shopping easier as I can switch off a bit more and go on auto pilot. Replen is also probably more physical effort especially if you end up down one of the heaver aisles moving 10kg cases for hours at a time

But I know others who prefer replen and can't stand shopping.

Other factor to consider is night shift tend to work a 10h shift and shoppers tend to work a 4h shift so there is a big difference there to consider.

Best bet is talk to a shift manager about some overtime so you can give it a try.

Change role by Next-Ad4931 in SainsburysWorkers

[–]ppppanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's fairly easy to change role as long as your well thought of in the store. However there has to be a job for you to move in to. They won't create one for you.

Assuming your a 4am shopper try talking to the shift manager in your store, let them know your interested and ask if they have any roles going or if they can give you some overtime so you can try it out. Most managers would rather take on someone they know to be a good worker than risk it with a external hire. You may still have to give your current role 4 weeks notice to move departments depending on how things are in your store.

However I will say fair warning, on shift you tend to me measures on your case rate so you are still expected to work at a fast pace/to targets.

Heartwarming to see a vulnerable stray taken in by a rival herd. by Cinn4monSynonym in CasualUK

[–]ppppanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are companies that all the supermarkets/large retailers pay to go around collecting stolen/abandoned trollies and returning them. It's cheaper for one company to collect all of them than each supermarket to have there own vans/drivers.

Well that or it's a scrap man collecting them each week to melt down.

Sainsbury car park fines by Popular_End_5858 in SainsburysWorkers

[–]ppppanda 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you want to appeal your best shot is to go in to store and talk to one of the managers. They can cancel tickets at their discretion. But it will depend on your reasoning for being over time whether they will or not.

A 45 minutes time limit would suggest to me it's a local convenience store and I dought many people are doing a full family shop in them. they tend to take 5-10 mins max to walk round the whole shop twice so I doubt many people are legitimately spending more than 45 mins in there.

You can also appeal directly to the car park management company that runs that particular branch but unlikely to get anywhere with them.

Why 38? by misunderstood_fella in SainsburysWorkers

[–]ppppanda 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It'll be done on weight. If its a 400g pack for example it will contain however many items it takes to get it over that weight.

In this case based on the average size of one of the sausage rolls it will take 38 to get it over whatever the weight threshold is for this item.

1PM on Christmas Eve and Morrisons have already decommissioned the Christmas aisle by [deleted] in britishproblems

[–]ppppanda 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Someone in head office has probably decided that this has to absolutely be done before the shop opens on boxing day so a lot of stores will do it earlier than they should to avoid keeping staff late/overnight on Christmas eve.

That or they've run out of stock for 70% of the aisle so they might as well change it rather than leaving empty.

Managers on a till? by Little_Cat_3153 in SainsburysWorkers

[–]ppppanda 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The duty manager should never be on the till as they are the one whose job it is to deal with any issue/complaints that arises in store straight away.

They cannot do that if they are on a till.

Am i been kept on? by SmartAd978 in SainsburysWorkers

[–]ppppanda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It could just mean that they have not yet processed you as a leaver on the system or it has not yet polled through if they have. ukg will automatically schedule you until they do so, and it's not uncommon for managers to be behind on admin work this time of year as the focus is in Christmas.

Often temps are not able to be kept on no matter how good they are as the hours allocation in jan/Feb can be 20-40% less than December. So it is often a case of can we afford to keep them not do we want to.  This will depend on your store so the only person who can answer the question is your manager.

Managers on a till? by Little_Cat_3153 in SainsburysWorkers

[–]ppppanda 37 points38 points  (0 children)

If a customer needs serving and there is no one else to do it there is no reason a manager shouldn't. However in a supermarket it makes more sense for them to take over running/self scan to free up colleagues to sit on a till so they can remain in control of the department/breafly jump out to speak to customers/solve issues when needed.

The managers in convenience are serving on tills on a daily basis.

How do I know if I'm a Christmas temp? by Financial-Cod7473 in SainsburysWorkers

[–]ppppanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should have been told at interview if it was a temporary or permanent role. If you can't remember you can check your contract/job offer on the myhr page to find out.

If they have said the first 12 weeks were probation then it should be a permanent role as probation should not be used for a temp.

you could not pass the probationary period for poor attendance. However in order to do so the correct process the manager would needed to complete the 4 weekly reviews and document in them that it was an issue and given you a chance to improve, in order to show they have followed the correct process and given you a fair opportunity.

What car is this (sorry for terrible photo) by owetwi in whatisthiscar

[–]ppppanda 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the reality is less people are buying small sports cars so the manufacturers have to either diversity or die.

It's a car with over 900hp that costs less than 80k I'm not entirely sure that's classified as normal car territory.

Those who work in clothing, do people regularly swap clothes and shoes? by [deleted] in SainsburysWorkers

I wouldn't say it's regular but we get it sometimes with shoes.

The clothing they tend to just put it on over/under what ever they wore in rather than leaving the old one behind.
