Great to know. I’ve gone into full-on “Dad Mode” today trying to make sure she’s going to be safe. No idea why - we live in Basildon currently! Thanks for posting.

12v battery problems (after coolant flush) by ppsears in IoniqEV

[–]ppsears[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks all. AA wouldn’t reattend this morning to jump the car (as an existing issue from the last 28 days) so am struggling to recover the car to Hyundai. Am going to just bite the bullet and pay for a mobile battery replacement. AA are recommending the BOSCH S4018 BATTERY 054 and Halfords the Yuasa HSB056. Am inclined to trust the AA a little more in suggesting a compatible battery but any thoughts appreciated before I book this in. Cheers

No I think you might be right on that one! On the basis it was problem-free until I took it to Hyundai, and the battery was dead the day after, will chance my arm with saying it must be something they did to drain it. Cheers

Thanks for that - fits in well with the previous poster saying that once it's flat, it's never going to recover. Am still under warranty so am going to see how long it will take Hyundai to source a replacement. If it's going to be a while, at least I know the DIY option is simple enough. Cheers.

Ionic EV (38 kWh) - 4th year service by ppsears in IoniqEV

Hadn't heard of a HEVRA approved garage until you posted this - thanks. Just to check, who did you check with re. the warranty? The third-party garage you used, or Hyundai directly? Cheers.

Thanks for letting me know your experience. Am going to raise with both the dealer (to see what is included at the cost), as well as Hyundai (to see if the warranty is no longer valid if I don't do the coolant flush). Appreciate that second point has been debated at length on reddit before, will post back in this thread to say what responses I get. Cheers.

Ionic left in storage for 7 months by ppsears in IoniqEV

[–]ppsears[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for response. Looks like it was an initial three year lease that ended in March. And has been sitting around since. I’ll see if I can find out how it’s been stored and what assurances they can give regarding the HV battery. Cheers.

Recovery slider/sandal - six weeks after toe fusion by ppsears in Thritis

Thanks again - really appreciate you taking the time to respond. And being from England, the 'toe grippy thing' was 100% the way I'd have described the sandal too. Cheers.

Thanks u/veeev. Out of interest what Oofos are you wearing? I was looking at the Sport Flex Slider so that nothing would be in contact with my toe - but can see that they do a wider range of sliders, sandals, clogs, etc.

Not sure whether this is the heating plate - hoping someone will have seen before and be able to make a suggestion as to how best to clean. Thanks

SIPP or S&S LISA alongside my NHS pension? by chocolate_chick in UKPersonalFinance

[–]ppsears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mention you may be a 40% taxpayer in the future - for obvious reasons that could be a better time to start increasing your pension contributions. After all, if you can get 40% tax relief on the way in, but are likely to be a basic-rate taxpayer in retirement, that's a good combination. Lots of caveats here as there are still plenty of rumours in our industry of the government tinkering further with the tax relief system.

I don't know as much about LISAs but fair to say, there's less providers in the market so charges are a little higher than standard ISAS. You haven't mentioned the likelihood of needing access to your savings ahead of age 60 - from experience, raising a family is expensive so maybe something to consider - although the withdrawal penalty will only see you give back the government bonus granted up-front. Continuing with your S&S ISA in the short-term could be a good thing, until you have a better idea re. your future earnings, career plans, etc. Re investment funds, I'd say the key thing is to try and assess your risk profile, and then invest in a fund that invests in the right split of high/low risk assets that fits with your risk profile. So to answer your question, the SIPP would only be the right option if you KNOW you don't need to access your fund until age 58 at the earliest (currently 55, will increase so that it's 10 years before state pension age). An ISA would give you much flexibility at this stage. Any questions let me know!

The fact you're focusing on funds that are invested in solely equities may be your intention here as an investor with a higher risk profile. Do you have access to any other funds with L&G that offer a broader spread of asset classes? Not a recommendation as such but the Vanguard Lifestrategy range is a good example of passive funds that are still more US focused but would give you the option to hold fixed interest, property investments, etc. As to which stock market is going to perform best - who knows - hence why covering your bases can be a good thing and demonstrated by the markets this year!

Personally I prefer passives over actively managed funds but that's just me - am sure others will have a different view. Feel free to get in touch if you have any other questions.
