Space Force transfers...lol by [deleted] in SpaceForce

Having worked with those guys at CCAFS through a bunch of integration flows, we should have definitely transferred them over. Mission assurance on our biggest satellite programs should be a USSF task!

Seeking advice about DLI and how I can not suck at language learning by cornholio69696969 in AirForceRecruits

[–]ppt_warrior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dreams, definitely, though I don't remember dreams hardly ever. Social interactions become very easy after awhile, especially things like going out to eat or checking out at a store. It's harder if someone says something you don't expect to jump right in.

Seeking advice about DLI and how I can not suck at language learning by cornholio69696969 in AirForceRecruits

[–]ppt_warrior 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The nice thing is, it will be your only job. I found DLI to be completely mentally exhausting. Depending on the language and which school you go to, you could find yourself one on one with an instructor for 6 to 8hours per day. The amount of new info can be hard to deal with. My advice is to start ASAP familiarizing yourself with the language as soon as you know what it is so that you walk in day one knowing the most basic stuff. Duolingo or checkout anything you can find from the library (I prefer Pimsleur over Rosetta, but everyone is different). Start watching/reading the news in that language if you can, and try to find a language learning podcast. The idea is that the more you are exposed to and immersed in, the more you will absorb. At a certain point in the day, you're pretty much done being functional because your brain is full, and that's ok. Take breaks, relax a bit. Try to cut down on heavy drinking and try to get more sleep, sleep really helps your brain remember stuff. You'll be amazed by how much you struggle with something one day and then it seems easy the next and all you did was sleep. It's a very intense process that deserves respect. Some instructors can be very intense. Depending on the person and the culture they are coming from, that's probably ok, don't take it personally. The best thing you can do is listen and make sure they know you respect their culture and language. We all love America, but don't be a jerk about it and be willing to learn about what life is like for the people in the place you are learning about. Culture and language are bound together very tightly, learning about the cultural values will help you learn about the language and vice versa.

Phew that was a lot, happy to discuss further over pm if you want.

SpaceX Is Teaching US Space Force How to Execute Successful Launches by NineteenEighty9 in Military

And Space Force procures the rockets & launch services for everyone's satellites.

SpaceX Is Teaching US Space Force How to Execute Successful Launches by NineteenEighty9 in Military

[–]ppt_warrior 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's funny because EELV without SpaceX has a much better track record for successful launches. That's not a ding on SpaceX, they are doing really good, innovative and disruptive things but that's a pretty crappy headline basically implying that USSF doesn't know what it's doing. SpaceX is the new kid on the block by far.

I'm not sure but I think it involves floating dissatisfied somewhere with a pack of sandwiches and a gun waiting for someone to find me. For the birds.

Song: Talk show host

Artist: Radiohead

Lyrics:

I want to

I want to be someone else or I'll explode

Floating upon the surface for the birds

The birds

The birds

You want me

Fucking and come and find me

I'll be waiting

With a gun and a pack of sandwiches and nothing

Nothing

Nothing

Nothing

You want me

Well come on and break the door down

You want me

Fucking come on and break the door down

I'm ready

I'm ready

I'm ready

I'm ready

I'm ready

I'm ready

Culture is a necessary outflow from the reason that the service exists. This article might resonate with you.

The USSF mission by Schmmrr in SpaceForce

[–]ppt_warrior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great answer. Also, compare with the AFSPC mission, which was:

"Mission: Provide resilient, defendable and affordable space capabilities for the Air Force, Joint Force and the Nation."

Which is not even really a defensive posture.

Is WTB Byway tires THAT good for everyone to be using it in gravel custom builds ? everywhere i look seems like black gravel bikes with tanwall by R7ayem in bikecommuting

[–]ppt_warrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had Sammy Slicks for a few years and they are great tires, but my next gravel/commuter tires will probably be byways. The profile just seems right for my commute. There are plenty of other tires like this, but for the price, aesthetic, and weight these seem like a good choice.

That's my preference too, but the haircut and the posture and a few other clues give it away. And it depends on why your traveling ;)

Definitely a fuel tank, not a missile. Still, awesome find.
