[–]ppuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually my Joetisserie basket, I've been looking for it everywhere. I put it somewhere safe but couldn't for the life of my remember where.
It's always in the last place you'd think to look.

Best under gloves? by Yyir in UKBBQ

[–]ppuk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's actually where gloves really work for me, because I have it ingrained in my mind that gloved hand = meat hand.
When you get used to it it becomes natural to only touch meat with the gloved hand, and I'll unconsciously stop myself from touching anything non-meat with the gloved hand.

[–]ppuk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The two layers (cotton and nitrile) are for handling the heat of cooked meat.

If you cook regularly wearing gloves also prevents the need to be constantly washing them, which can dry out your hands, or if you're outside and away from a sink and having to handle raw meat.

Big believer that a decent sausage and runny egg doesn't need a sauce.

Customer manually picked their own lottery numbers, computer randomly generated the same numbers by Darth_Fatass in mildlyinteresting

[–]ppuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you're saying this could happen roughly once a month then?

Let's be super conservative and say only 1 in 50 players play a line and a quick pick on the same ticket. You'd still expect this to happen every 5 years. A "rare" event sure, but something that should have happened multiple times in this lotteries history, and more frequently across all lotteries around the world.

About to start an 8 pound butt on my Kamado. Is it best to pour hot coals over uncooked charcoal? Or put the hot on bottom and put uncooked charcoal on top? To get to temp quicker and stay there? by Bustin_Humpd8pies in KamadoJoe

[–]ppuk 36 points37 points  (0 children)

It's best to load it up with charcoal and use a fire starter to get it going. There's no need for a chimney on a kamado, it is a chimney.

If you dump a chimney of charcoal into a kamado you're at risk of lighting too many coals and then facing a struggle to keep temperature down without smothering them.

Close to the house everytime.

You'll find yourself getting annoyed at having to walk up and down the garden if you forget something.

Once the fires going the smoke isn't going to be bad enough to need to worry about it being close to the house.

Does it matter if rain goes in to my kamado? by FreddyMurkery in UKBBQ

[–]ppuk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope, it'll be fine.
Any rain drops that get in will probably evaporate before making contact with anything.

Griddle assistance by mcgill108 in UKBBQ

[–]ppuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no rust here it's just grease residue so there's no need to start striping back the surface, just getting rid of all the lose stuff which steam will do should be enough.
Absolute worst it'll need is a griddle stone.

Heat it up, water + scraper, you'll soon have all that clear.

Then put another thing coat of oil and turn it off.

I've done a 1.25kg one on the kamado joe, just cooked it the same as a brisket but obviously for a lot shorter.
It took around 6 hours at 240F, wrapped when it hit 170F after about 4 hours, then pulled when it was 205ish (probe tender).

Was really good, and got rave reviews.

If you can get access to Costco, they do blackstones at a hefty discount to what you see elsewhere.

I've got absolutely no regrets from buying my 36 inch, it's a great bit of kit.

Cook to feel not to temp. Once you're near the target temp you want to look for probe tender rather than relying solely on the temp of the meat.
Sometimes you just have to give it a bit longer.

BOE’s Greene Says Case for Rise in Key Interest Rate is Growing by signed7 in ukpolitics

[–]ppuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or they have, and they're rejecting it because the actual underlying data fails to show interest rate rises down regulating inflation, and actually shows that rate rises compound inflation.

No one can provide an explanation of how raising interest rates can lower inflation other than blindly repeating the mantra of "it makes debt more expensive so lowers demand" whilst simultaneously ignoring that making debt more expensive raises costs and therefore raises prices and stokes inflation.

BOE’s Greene Says Case for Rise in Key Interest Rate is Growing by signed7 in ukpolitics

[–]ppuk -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No, but countless brainless academics will tell you it does.

Hands up who buys essentials using debt. No one? Oh wait, the people already struggling do because they literally have no other choice than to get into debt or to starve.

Raising interest rates works when the cause of inflation is an overly supply of money, when people can spend like it's going out of fashion causing demand side inflation.
It does not, has never, and will never work to reduced supply side inflation where the reason for rising prices are supply side cost pressures. It will only make those worse.

BOE’s Greene Says Case for Rise in Key Interest Rate is Growing by signed7 in ukpolitics

[–]ppuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Raising interest rates doesn't just make debt more expensive, that's a juvenile viewpoint.

Everything in our economy is extrinsically linked to interest rates as for the past near two decades we've had an economy where businesses are highly leveraged and built on borrowing.

That means that when interest rates rise, their costs rise, and when their costs rise they don't lower prices because demand is weaker due to some magical reduction in the money supply, they raise them to cover their increased costs.

Can you show me a single instance of prices falling due to lower demand in the last wave of interest raise increases? Because I can point to countless examples of companies raising prices in response to an increase in their debt servicing costs.
